  • waw i want a robot to do things for me

  • this is soooo spemsive in my contry....

  • it makes so easy to understand

  • Omg this was really helpful. All I have to do now is buy a robot............

  • if there's no code, there's no programming

  • you should make more videos but show how to make different programs, that would be real helpful

  • whaaaudfhighsgafhg

  • key what's the third tab there after the common and complex tabs? is this for code and if it is then does it show code for the programs that you have made in common or complex tab. allso is there an option to by extra motors and sensors for reasonable prize?

  • @youluvana That tab is the custom palette, which is a place for "My Blocks". These are user-created sequences of programming blocks packaged up into a single block for easier use and re-use later on. It doesn't show code or anything like that. As for buying extra motors, yes you can buy them from Lego's website... but without special hardware, a single NXT brick can only output to the three motors that come with the kit.

  • Can you add new sounds to it.

  • thanke you very mutch book now I am looking how to apply lopps

  • I just got my lego mindstorms 2.0 set yesterday. I used this to do a simple one. I need some training. Would you offer to give me advanced learning tips please chadcardwell?

  • @thesuperdjmorgan Hi there. I recommend you google "ortop nxt tutorial" and check out these great tutorials on the top result's website. They go into much more detail on NXT programming. :)

  • @chadcardwell Thanks. What was the music? I like it.

  • @thesuperdjmorgan I'm going to be lazy and just say that the music credit is provided at the end of each video. :)

  • @chadcardwell Oh and thanks for the tutorial. Please send me a contact invite and Ill sub you so sub me back!

  • You have more videos learning how to fixed Lego mindstorms

  • Hi

  • thanx boss helped a lot

  • i was hoping i can get a lego mindstorm for CHRISTMAS

  • your theeeeeeeeeeeeeee bestttttt <333333333333333333333

  • Sucks that my parents wont buy me one on my birthday or christmas ;(

  • thank you so much!! that helped me so much:)

  • thanks u helped me a lot:)+=3 bad spelling

  • thanks u halped me a lot:)+=3

  • Nice demo!

  • Great intro to NXT! Used to program my Mindstorms (first gen) with Java back in the days when learning AI at the university, and now I want to teach my nephew the skills. Thanks!

  • @iLoveLingo You're welcome! Best of luck with your nephew. I'm having a hard time getting mine to show interest in even normal Lego blocks. :(

  • does it work with nxt2.00???????????

  • @noahessa1 NXT 2.0 is essentially the same NXT brick with some updated sensors and updated NXT-G software. The software fundamentals with NXT-G 1.0/1.1 and 2.0 should be the same. I do not own the NXT-G 2.0 software, so I can't go into detail.

  • want to buy!

  • That was really helpfull, thanks :)

  • @SVANNEI You're welcome. :)

  • I have used this video many times to introduce classes and camps I've run using the LEGO NXT system - thanks a lot, Chad!

  • @legobotics Oops, just saw you commented over here, too. You're very welcome! :D

  • whats the difference between nxt and nxt2.0?

  • nice shame that it costs too much: (

  • ur gr8...it helped a lot

  • Thank you so much for helping me out!

  • i am going to get the nxt kit by tomorrow.......its very good....but the oly problem is that there isnt any sound sensors for it... instead they have given two touch sensors.....but i can buy it later for 30 dollars

  • On school I am busy making a robot on school. I first created the humanoid, it worked but after some programming 1 motor was going faster than the other.

I deleted the program and it seemed okay after that but I still don't know. Maybe 1 motor still goes faster than the other, have you ever encountered this? Or was this an error in the program, cause I clearly selected both motors with the same power.

  • Very good tutorial, great for programmers new to robotics :)

  • Is the program mac compatible?

  • @Jmaz926 I think so, or else it is stupid to make an lego nxt, i recommend that you buy a pc, its a lot better and cheaper but i think mac works

  • thx!! cant wait to get it!!

  • Nice tutorial;)

  • @1chrisdamam1 it has A B or C and if you attach the motor in, and its in like AB or C then when you program it you choose a b or c at the bottom part and click it

  • thx

  • @ScOoTeRoOtEr12 thanks! my lego mindstorms nxt set 2.0 came in today!

now i fannilly understn how to program that little car =D.

    thanks

  • it's a great tuturial! but i dont get 1 thing. how does the program knows wich motor he needs to turn for going right? because if you just switch the motors from side to side it would go left when you say it has to go right. but how does it know what motor he has t turn?

  • Just asking but, does the whole mindstorm box come with the cable and the program to program it? Also, does the robot come with a charger?

  • Nice toturial, i jhink im gonna buy lego midstorm, sounds pretty cool

  • When he programs and you play in 480p, you can see how hes programing it :D

  • does it give u the intructions to build the robot on the box?

  • the programing stage kinda reminds me of the lego univers progaming stage lego universe is pc mmorpg buy it at walmart its pretty kool

  • Best Tutorial Ever!!

  • thx

  • Cant wait til' my birthday, my mom KNOWS i want this

  • i like this one

  • I wish i want nxt and nxt 2.0 you have nxt and you don't have nxt 2.0? alex don't have lego mindstorms nxt :(

  • i dont have one but i want 2.0 for crismas becuace i dont have enogh money

  • pretty good tutorial , can you also use arduino with nxt to program ???

  • my nxt won't make any sound but it it does in programs and plus the volume is on max help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • helpful, i built the explorer on the 2.0 mindstorms idk how to program it...

  • How do you just get the battery and the electronic stuffs and the program without the robot? I can just use my own legos.

  • Very helpfull! and the best = you didn´t do it to fast! thank you sooo much

  • im getting the new hp 3032tx with this =)

  • thanks for the tutorial. I was looking into buying an NXT v2 set, and i thought it was script-powered, so i wouldn't be able to use it because i cant script (yet). Now i know its a lot easier than scripting. I just might get a set. Thank you.

  • i got mine from scool... =) but i dont have the progaming software.. where can i download it???

  • @theskyhomosexualilikepenis How did you get it from school?

  • can i do this with model 8547 of nxt 2.0???

  • I´ve buyed NXT 2.0 from the internet, I will get it in a few days :D

  • @TheYoGamer did you get it now?

  • @MrNinjaboy100 yepp :D

  • You have helped me alot :D. But my only problem is to try to get my mom and dad to buy one for me and my brother (for our grades being good xD) Do you have any way to help or any suggestions?

(also My dad and mom said They would get us 2 Dsi but now i want this what do you think)

  • @ice0cream0bunny4321 ....... young child, how old are you?

I personally haven't been entertained by computer games that well and enjoy spending my time playing music, and enjoy my current studies in school. If you enjoy working with computers, or mathematics, and love to be original, I recommend you purchase this rather than the Nintendo Dsi. Unless you really enjoy/have the time to play games.

  • Thanks for the programming knowledge, but the only thing that I learned was how to highlight the blocks. (Thanks again for that, It'll make things a lot easier.) Could you make another video showing how to use data wires and the complete pallette and stuff?

  • good

  • MUCH EASIER THAN RCX

  • in my school we're going to program a lego mindstorm in I.T. lesson woo hoo!!

  • Is it possible to run the program while the robot is still attached to the computer? :)

  • @Aalzor Of course it its. Thats what we are doing at school, we just leave the cord on the robot and carry the laptop around. You probably shouldnt do this with a stationary computer tho.

  • Hi, congratulations I really like your tutorial. Do you have more videos? another question mmm how can I download to the RCX mi own programs? my English is too bad i´m really sorry . Good Bye

  • can anyone tell me how to program 2 bumpers that when either of them are hit the robot stops

  • @POPDEATH1223 put a touch sensor behind it.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for instrutions

  • when i try to make mine go fwd it goes off at a tangent.. its set 2 go str8 fwd bt it keeps going skew.... WHY???

  • i want that

  • Hey, how to start and where? What I have to buy and how much it cost? Is it able to real-programming ( C++ , Java )?

    Thanks for the answers!

  • Can i use other program(DOS, or i make other porgram) and make more things ?

or... Can i instal (or use) de linux in the nxt, to program or to istal in it? :p

PS: Sorry, i`m from brazil and my english is not too good.

  • Yes, there are other programming languages that you can use that are more powerful and complex. A good comparison table is at teamhassenplug(.org)/NXT

  • Where can i download this program?

    My CD dosen't work.

  • My suggestion is to contact LEGO's service department at service.lego(.com)

  • see what you meant when you said simple!

Can you do one that includes data lines, i can't get my head round them : )

  • Google "ortop nxt" and you'll find some great tutorials that cover everything in much more detail. Check out the advanced tutorials for data hubs and wires.

  • thanks

  • lol the same

  • lol... I have the Mindstorms 2.0 kit and it came with no sound sensor, but it came with 2 touch sensors

  • Thanks!!!!! Awesome insruction how to use mindstorm for begginers:) I will help me, that for sure;)

  • Aww, I wish I had NXT 2.0 :( I only have the original.

  • Me too. :(

  • @chadcardwell huh whats the difference

  • @FreeRealmsInvader

Well. I want to use another computer to connect to the computer that has the NXT connected to it. If you know what I'm saying :P

  • @chadcardwell Does nxt 2.0 come with the software?

  • @chadcardwell Does nxt 2.0 come with the software? Also, I'm used to using the RCX programing program; will I have trouble adjusting to the new software?

  • @chadcardwell I dont have any.:(

I hope I get for christmas!

  • @chadcardwell Actully 2.0 has less features.

  • @MrRpgmakerkid not it doesn't ;)

  • @MrRpgmakerkid then which one has mor features

  • @chadcardwell hahaha ich have NXT 2.0 =DD

  • @MrZorroZorroZ Im gonna buy one >:)

  • @Navineous1 im getting it prety soon its like $279.00 at toys-r-us

  • @Navineous1 Haiz...I have NXT 2.0 but I don't have enough pieces. How much is the educational set?

  • @Navineous1 I got it last night!

  • @Navineous1 i wish i had any of these.

  • 5 STARS! This was absolutely terrific.

  • thanx u soooooooooo much i now understand all the porograming!!!!!!! u r awesome although a bit geeky still thanx sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im going to make a robot to move forward then with ultrasonic and light (on torch mode) sensorsers to look up and down in the dark and on a table and not fall off its going to be whicked

  • I buy this :D

  • I just got the lego mindstorms 2.0 the progams kind of the same

  • this is great

  • Man that video was great! it helped a whole bunch! thanks!

  • thanks man that helped a lot!!!!! too bad I don't have LEGO mindstorms

  • If u have built in bluetooth in your computer you don't need the USB cable

    (cuz the robot have it)

just so u know goes MUCH faster whitout

  • does the program com with the robot?

  • The computer program to program the robot? Yes.

  • rofl duh -.-

  • yes

  • Thanks! Great tutorial. Learned a lot.

  • Is it ok i have a Alpha Rex to work like yours

  • a question, I have both the RCX 9794 Kit and 9797 and 8725 NXT Sets, I need to make a combined invention.. do you have any ideas?

  • a rock and sock em that can through hooks and uppercuts

  • Thank you... but one question: I have to get my robot to follow a maze consisting of straight lines and right turns only. My robot keeps going diagonally even though I've set it to steer straight. Do you think I should switch from rotations to seconds?

  • If you mean it slowly veers left or right as it drives forward, then I'm not sure how to remedy this as the move block should power the motors equally. If you mean it just doesn't turn 90 degrees in place each time, then I would keep using degrees/rotations over seconds as the motors will always turn to the desired point each time. I really shouldn't have used seconds when turning my robot because changes in motor power will result in different turning amounts.

  • do u have a MSN? if do plz tell me... cause i having trouble controlling the NXT sometimmes.. the degree of turning changes as power changes.. how to control it?

  • Are your move and motor blocks set to turn in degrees, rotations, or seconds? In my video, I used seconds, but using a fixed number of degrees or rotations will provide more precise turning. Just make sure the brake option is checked so the motor doesn't freespin.

  • degrees... because to make it fast i have equiped gear to it... after i equip gear to it, the power of it will effect the degrees alot.

  • thank your for the tutorial helps alot !

  • hi i am a teacher and we puted in my class the lesson of robotics with the lego nxt.

i don't know so much about this stuff . can you send me some simple programs to show to my students?

  • Hi, sorry to not reply sooner. I would recommend you check out nxtprograms(dot)com. It has building instructions as well as programs you can download.

  • Thanks for the tutorial, but would it kill you to smile?

  • Awesome tutorial man! Thank you very much!

  • very nice vid im gettit for xmas cant wait i wonderif there are any way to make cannon for a tank out of only 1 motor please comment

  • the proggraming sounds like a drag and drop version of BASIC and sounds easy enough to keep me interested yet hopefuly would challange me enough with the harder tasks so its not to easy

    maybe christmas, maybe

  • hey, i have a question. How do i get my nxt robot to Go into a box, bounce off each side of the box, and C go the same way with a light sensor?

  • that was vear good i think iam going an nxt set for xmas you have got me to like nxt a lot

  • U ROCK DUUDEEEE!!!! WOOOOOTTT!!!!!

  • can u program on a desktop?instead of laptop?

  • Yes, both are computers and run software the same.

  • tyvm

  • Thanks for the reply, thats interesting. I actually just bought one thanks to your video. Very cool!

  • Thanks for making this video. Im quite impressed.

  • That is a great intro, but i had one question. How is a right turn programed into a motor? It seems that it should be 'on' or 'off'

  • That motor block controls the speed of two motors at the same time, with each motor attached to a wheel. It simply has one wheel turn faster than the other.

  • u just convinced me 2 buy one

  • thank you very much that was very helpful!

  • I am just now programming. That helped me understand how to do it. I thought that it would be harder than that.

    GREAT MOVIE!!!

  • cool!

  • really quick question but can you say have the sight sensor detect something that passes in front of it and then have the motors do something else, like inserting money in a machine?

  • Yes, you can do this. The easiest way is to use a special wait block that uses the ultrasonic sensor as its control. You can configure it to wait to execute other actions (such as motor actions) until the sensor has detected an object within a range you specify.

  • This is great! I was considering of buying one of these, and now i'm sure! 5/5

  • hey, great work with the video

and cheers for lego for making this

  • a+++++ awsome tutorial love it keep em coming

  • Again, really good just like the 1st video.

Is there a way to have more control over the programming?

Can you setup a program so that it kicks off when a condition is met instead of choosing it through the brick e.g. when a loud sound is made etc?

I basically want to be able to program the robots "personality" and I saw from the Lego website that you can edit the firmware?

PLEASE do more videos on more complex programming or if you know any way of doing this, cheers.

  • TeamHassenplug(.org) has a page with some of the most popular advanced programming languages and environments for use with the NXT. As for starting a program with a condition rather than with a block, I'm not really sure how to do this. I'm pretty sure you always have to initiate the program first (with the orange button).

  • Hé thanks you helped me over to buy Mindstorms NXT!

    It's so cool!

  • thanx

  • Do you happen to know if the software disc comes in older versions of the model? Thanks.

  • The NXT-G software (version 1.1) will be supplied with any new retail version of the Mindstorms NXT kit. If your NXT kit is older and came with v1.0, you can purchase v1.1 from Lego Shop website for about 8 dollars.

  • thanx helpful
