Still a horrible show with Ron Raines (who) we were promised three legends and "Stars of stage and screen" - got a bunch of nobodies and a hasbeen - charity and producers can hold their heads in shame at this lamentable production and sham of a show
If it had Ron Raines singing in it, it was not a terrible show. He not only is a great actor, but is a superlative singer and often sings with the Boston Pops when they need a real star with a great voice.
I do agree, the seat were over priced, the band were too loud and the lighting was all over the place. But angela was only meant to be compering the show because barbra cook was doing the singing, thats why they got either klea or melissa over. and so what if angela is a gay icon, she is a wonderfully talented lady, who is still going strong, shes an icon (gay or not). Stars just arent the same anymore.
Dear Ian - the lighting was terrible, the orchestra was over amplified, Angela Lansbury hardly sang, Barbara Cook didn't show up, Jerry Herman was "ill" and didn't show up, the singers that did - nobody had ever heard of - and the audience was full of screaming queens - how bad can this show have possibly been - certainly one of the worst I have ever sat through
It was only a night for Angela fans, most from the gay contingent(which I just don't get! -she is a hetrosexual female!)-Yes it was a poor show, but it was for charity (yes a gay charity), and sadly the main guy was too ill to attend. For the independent to suggest it was rubbish is typical of the leftie rag, probably written by a jealous gay guy who has never sung or played a note!.My partner -Helen-loved the show, and was lucky enough to meet angela after the show. She was great, esp 4 her age!
You miss the whole point - the evening was promoted as "three lengends" on one stage with "stars of stage and screen". The producers and promoters did an absolutely disgraceful job as only one legend could bother to turn up, with no "stars of stage and screen" - I'd certainly never heard of them. And the review in the Independent is quite right - the lighting was absolutely terrible and the RPO does not need amplification - IT WAS A BLOODY TERRIBLE SHOW
It was a charity show, a one off evening event. It was not terrible, under the circumstances. As for the GAY contingent, i refer to male gays, they made up around 75% of audience, and loved angela, I was asking WHY IS ANGELA A GAY ICON? not for lesbians, but for gay men, I just don't get that!
Just to correct iancoley's ignorance - correct Angela Lansbury as far as I know is a heterosexual. But gay men have absolutely nothing in common with lesbians. So not sure what your ignorant homophobic point is - being a gay man does not mean you have anything in common with a lesbian?
i don't have an irrational fear of homosexuals! what a daft accusation, I just wondered why so many gay men idolise angela Lansbury... why is she a gay icon? can you explain? asking such a question is not a sign of an irrational fear!
Oh this is just brilliant. I so wanted to go to this...but alas...i found out about it too late.My YT pal Quicksilver2112 sent me this...i'm sure glad she did :) "Thanks Helen" and thanks to you for posting...

That with Angela on her left is soap actor Ron Raines, who is one heck of a singer. He is on Guiding Light.

I was there to this thrilling night. The legendary Don Pippin conducting and playing piano made the night perfect.
