  • My 3vze 88 4runner sounded pretty mean with the cat halfway installed! Check out my vid if you want to here her roar! lol

  • Bet it was a gutless wonder on the way to the exhaust shop. I ran open header for a week cuz I broke the flange on my downpipe and it was just sad. 3rd gear to the floor tryin to do 65, ricers tryin to race me cuz it sounded so mean..

  • Sounds like a dirtbike, lol, love it

  • i had that happen i didnt have a way to mount my exhaust when i took my exhaust at the cat so i used bailing wire to hold it up (not smartest idea) ever driving home one night heard a loud bang then truck got louder then shit broke right at the collector

  • That revs really quick.

  • no problem

  • @crombieposterboy

    No you didn't.

I've ran open header on 6 different trucks for long periods of time and had no problems at all. and if you knew anything you could tell it's obviously the thorley tri-y.

  • i wanna cream in my pants to that sound... but luckily and hopefully you didnt wanna it like that for to long because if you were to get it hot enough and turn it off then cold air come in from your header to your head it could of warped your valves and after running it again you coulda sucked a valve

  • sounds all cammed up. thats sick

  • damn im lookin for a header for mine wered u get them and how much?

  • Heh, looks like I missed a few comments. Anyway, it's been on for over 2 years and doing well. I ran it open only for this vid and to drive it to an exhaust shop (you can hear the completed system in my later vids). Also, if it does crack and I suck a valve I'll throw one of my spare heads on and finally have an excuse to put in my TRD cam that's been in my toolbox for years :)

  • Wow, Cant beat a well build 22R :D I love mine (1987 Toyota Pickup w/ 360k+ miles 'original') I love the thing to death.

So where did you pick up that Carb? I am planning a rebuild on mine this summer and would love any info you can share. Btw I love that body style. nice truck you have there.

  • Common for the 22R/22RE to get a manifold crack that sounds like engine ticking.

  • What kind of header is that?

  • its a thorley header. I had two on my toyota trucks and they are awesome. Highly recommend one.

  • Sounds mean. And the needle climbs pretty quick.

  • okay i have a 1994 toyota 4x4 dlx extra cab. I would like to make it sound more mean and fast. But i also want it to be mean and fast. What should i do?

  • put your header on upside down and cut a hole in the hood.

  • it would fit in at daves farm

  • totaly!

  • that would be sick

  • get a glasspack

  • that dont even sound tough

  • sounded alright.

  • Best way to fix this is to remove both pieces entirely, and weld it off the vehicle for the best results....

mine broke in jaggedy edges... which lined up pretty well, AND made it easier for my friend to tig or was it mig weld it. either way, he welded it and it survived a hydrant and is still hanging loose..... lol need to fix those exhaust hanger brackets.

  • yup, my front pipe broke at the Y.... Number 4 exhaust valve was LOOSE when i did adjustment

  • it's true, why do you people thumbs down this comment when he offers knowledge

  • I have a fun one. An 88 tercel five door with a broken flex tubing. The good ol' days. Car's already long gone unfortunately so no vid.

  • i have an 88 4runner v6, sweet

  • keep it open XD

  • nice truck

  • sounds sweet......now all you need is a glasspack and a ansa tip(if u can find 1).....those two things will give you about 15 more hp enjoy your strong and tough 22r!

  • Ok, an open header sounds like Bad Ass:)

  • awsome sound good job man

  • awsome sound good job man

  • LOL samething happened to me header cracked in 3 dif points

  • you have a pretty great 22re. im thinking about swapping a 3s-GTE into my truck

  • Hooker Header, good choice. i have a pace setter on mine. i'ma make a vid. and post it

  • It's actually a Thorley. I've put quite a few miles on it after I put the Magnaflow converter and Flowmaster 40 on it and it's runs and sounds really good.

  • sure as hell had me fooled. i could've sworn it was hooker judgin by the tag. nice rig tho. it's hard to kill a good ol' 22-RE

  • did that happened because u went off road

  • i remember when mine used to sound like that. i loved running straight pipes.

  • You should leave it like that! Sounds awesome!
