First of all, there is 30 seconds warning time starting when the crossing is activated until the train enters the edge of the road. Second, all crossings that have flashing lights will have a pair aimed at side roads or other atypical installations. Third, if the trucker would have continued and crashed through the other gate, that would have been better because all gates have shear bolts that allow the gate and casting to pivot on the king pin.
I was an engineer myself and I agree that it wasn't really his fault. His cab was already past the first arm when it activated and it trapped him on the crossing. He tried to back up but you can see other cars wizzin by so he couldn't and he paniced.
@PlaygroundJoe Correct...I'm quite aware. The lights are attached to the mast and gates. I also know for a fact that the lights flash for only a few seconds before the arms come down..Making a right turn off a highway, these lights would not be very visible.
@fizzlejibbs i know in Europe they often put lights on a mainroad if the crossing is right by the road with an arrow pointing in the direction of the crossing-do they do that in the US.
You're suppose to procede with caution over every crossing. The train wasn't far off when the gates triggered...so the trucker obviously was tired and zigged instead of zagged. He's lucky he or nobody else got killed. I don't feel sorry for anyone that gets hit by a train..it only has two directions to go...LEFT OR RIGHT and they don't stop on a dime. If motorists would show more respect at a crossing..there'd be less accidents. F**k off with the attitude already you jealous dipshit..
The trucker may not have done anything wrong. He has barricades behind and in front and he got caught. That truck isn't like a race car. The timing of that gate might be a problem.
Looks like that trucker needed some serious training, and ended up very well trained! Perhaps he will need to be re-trained soon! If you meet him, tell him, "Way to go, babe!"
@wintercat2 As far as Canada being part of N.A. there you are insulting my intelligence. Now to get back to the whole America thing. That is usually how people in your country call the United States. They don't say The United States of America, most people just say America. That is way I said it could be Canada, since it was a CN train. As far as Canadian trains going into the U.S. I was not aware of that Fact. Keep your arrogance to yourself. Thanks.
A person who gets all upset at a response is usually a person who was embarrassed by it. insulting your intelligence you say? And yet you didn't know Canadian trains cross the border into the USA? Unreal, you have never seen a CNR or CPR boxcar in the USA? I've seen them even in the far south in my travels, of course Americans aren't too bright anyway and don't pay attention to anything.
@wintercat2 Huh i'm Canadian, so it would make sense to me that when I see a CN train I would think it's in Canada. Oh and I don't travel to the U.S. because i don't travel to fascist police states. Maybe i will travel there one day when the people wake up and overthrow their government. now in the original response, you said it was America. America is what Americans call their country. That is what I was responding to.
As far as refering the USA as America, only Americans do, because they think the USA is it. The rest of the world say the USA or United States. Plus you are sure one to say, " Keep your arrogance to yourself" You Americans are the most arrogant Country and people on the planet, and very ignorant, and you know it. I know more about the USA than you know about it yourself, I've met Americans who didn't know how many States there were or where Canada was. Now that is stupid.
@wintercat2 Hey I have been trying to say for a while now. Dude I'm Canadian. hell I'm French Canadian at that if we want to go into specific. That is why I thought it was in Canada. I grew up in Western Quebec where these trains drive around. That's why I thought the filmwas taken in Canada. Geez check out my channel, listen to my accent, you'll realize i can't be an American with that accent. Bet you feel stupid now. Have a good one, Eh!
Check out your channel? I don't believe everything I hear or see on the internet or on the channels. But then angain I do feel a little stupid now that you say you're from Quebec, that would explain you not knowing too much about trains crossing the borders and so-forth
@wintercat2 So you are a bigoted idiot. Good for you. That is my last on post in your regards. After that you can go stuff unpleasant in yourself where the sun don't shine. You are the first Asshole I hear of from Winnipeg. Everyone else from there I met has always been nice. It must be that no one there wants to talk to you that is why you troll on you tube. Take a long hike, buddy, learn to respect people. don't bother replying i won't read.
one of the gates come down behind his truck and i know if the train is a quarter mile away you cant really see on what side its driving. I think i would have done the same in his position or get the hell back and give a fuck on a broken gate. Hope he wasnt injured badly.
usually the red lights flash long before the gates go down, if he didnt see the red lights then he should have backed up when the gates came down , not try to beat the train, bad move...obviously.
A bit hard to know who was at fault legally there, but the driver is certainly guilty of stupidity. Granted he was on the tracks, but if he looked, he wasnt on the same tracks as the train, keeping going was just dumb. Anyway, nice vid.
What makes you think that? Anything wrong is saying the big truck is no match for the train? The train is also made-in-US and I called it the iron beast. Am I hating America? Don't think too much.
haha, yes you have, and I appreciate that. I didn't really have a reason to ask that, just I'm sure you can imagine I see a lot of it on here, and it kinda sucks. I think we're awesome, haha. But I guess thats just me.
It doesn't look like it's the driver's fault. The gates didn't come down early enough for turning truck trafic. He was on the tracks when they started to come down but was going so slow, due to the turn, that he didn't have time.
It is the driver's fault. He should at least stay on the position and stop moving forward. The train will still miss him by a few inches. Stupid trucker.
It's pretty easy to Monday morning quarterback the situation. You have to keep in mind that drivers are trained not to sit on tracks. If he had waited he would have been sitting on the other tracks. It's easy to see waiting would have worked but in the heat of the moment, you do what you were trained to do--get off the tracks.
Since there is no train on the other track, then he should wait for the train on the second track to go pass before moving forward. Perhaps that is the cultural behaviour of your country - to get off the railway even if it is so dangerous to do so.
The point I was making was, you have to understand the amount of time involved in making the wrong decision. It is easy to sit here at your computer and say what the driver should have done. In the couple seconds that this event took place, not crashing, required the driver to go against training. People don't go against training in a few seconds. The driver was put into a position where no matter what he did, he was violating training. That's why he froze for some time.

No, it is America. The Locos are in the CN America scheme.

Yep. The America scheme is just CN with the web address under it.

Of course its America
wintercat2 2 years ago
@wintercat2 That is a CN train, so I am assuming it is in Canada. There are a lot of accidents with trains hitting cars in Canada every year.
msamour 2 years ago
Canada is a part of America, North America. Vehicles are hit by trains everywhere, not just in Canada.
Plus CNR and CPR both travel in the USA just the same as BNSF SOO Line and others USA trains travel in Canada

well first you said "Perhaps that is the cultural behaviour of your country - to get off the railway even if it is so dangerous to do so. "
which is refering to americans in a negative way, and then you referenced america again in this comment, so i was just curious.
