Superb playing on a great organ in a building with wonderful acoustics. Romantic instruments don't even come near to doing this sort of music justice. Wonder if the tracker action is heavy when the manuals are coupled? Enrico certainly makes it look easy. Best performance of this piece I've heard. Lost count of the number of times I've played the adagio in my church . . .
Why the hell would you want to hear a drifferenz in the left hand??? The Toccata is one piece not left hand exercice for beginners! He plays it absolutly perfect! Bach himself probably didn't play it better! If you think you can't hear the "left hand" you have obviously not a clue...
I love this recording, except for one thing: you can't hear the left hand at all. You really need to bring it out more so we can hear the wonderful contrast, support, and melodies in this piece.
I can remember bfore my father passed away in 2008, whenever I gave a concert at the Masonic Temple for Masonry or at the Cathedral, my father requested this as the Grand Finale, but activating the 2 16' and 2 32' stops and also the 4 16' stops for the pedal solo.
This was also played at his funeral in UT at the Cathedral of Madeline, where I played it for him as a last tribute to a Past National President and National Councillor of AGO.
As Regional Councillor of the American Guild of Organists and National Council nominee, Thanks for this post.
I played the Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue for the Masonic Temple for the dedication of the New Organ, as I am a Mason. The only difference, I activated the two 64' ,32' , and 4 16' stops, for the pedal solo. Just to see what would happen. I received a standing ovation.
Bach has been my role model since I became an organist many years ago in my teens. I am now 30.
Actually, I just noticed the tops of the sharps are whitish. That is actually one of the ways they were done, with the sides black - so it's not as unusual as I thought.
I know - it's hard to tell, isn't it? My harpsichord has bone topped sharps, but it's newer so they're brighter. Even so, if looked at from the side, they look all black too.
yea, in the pipe organ i play in the Concert hall, the keys are the same as the ones in the video. It is just that the white color on top of them is more bright , so it is easier to understand whether they are all black or black and white.
Amen! All these American churches with carpet, padded pews, and such are so accoustically dead that the organ's majesty is completely stifled. Anything less than 4 seconds is a waste of good wood, lead and ivory.
Yup, this is great, lovely interpretation, though the sheer relative difficulty of this piece means only a capable organist would tackle it anyway most times. Thanks for posting....
God... those acoustics are to die for.

However, the lack of clarity in the left hand might just be the instrument. I can't tell.

Correction: the stops should read: 2 64' and 2 32' and also the 4 16' stops.

There are lots of problems with this kind of music, most relating to how easy it is to get addicted to it... :)

phenomenal performance!!! GREAT JOB !! KEEP UP!! Something i noticed is that the keys of the organ are all black. (strange)

Some of the older organs, especially in Europe reverse the key colors.
