Loved these 777's, loved the scheme at the time (it was like the russian generals said "lets try and go for a really modern / crazy colour scheme - ohh but we'll still be conservative and keep the stripes" LOL Great shots Starboard --- Are you airside in these shots ??
@11mrjarjar .you must be relatively new to commercial aviation, russian built airliners - were once the mainstay- of all Russian carriers. But when Transaero secured a few DC-10s and Aeroflot a few 767s (in the 1990s) - the russian aircraft were on their way out. And they've been hurried out since only the IL-96, IL-86, Yak-42 and the newer TU-204Ms & Sukhoi superjets will be around for some time to come. But Russian fleets are now flooded with Airbus A319s, A320s, A330s and Boeing models.
@TheBadkid1001 ..yeah, thanks for that but most of us who are into this stuff ...know that..plus in the video description below the video..it clearly states that Aeroflot ''once' flew the aircraft.
@harlequin75 ..thanks, but no so much luck, I had a little advance notice that Aeroflot was bring the 777 to LAX so I was able to prepare for it. But I also have this magnificently painted 777s in London and Beijing!..so plenty of footage of them!
...then you should forgive me, but english isn't my native language, that's why some of your phrases bring me to a dead end, for ex.: "SU is going in a new direction than when it operated the 2 777s." Brrr... SU - you mean Soviet Union?! Then I don't get it. SU collapsed in 1991. And another your phrase telling me to learn some history provokes me to ask you to read once more what I've written to you for the 1st time, guess you got me wrong!
@YaropolkMSK ..you are forgiven. But I'm confused..below you state that you worked for Aeroflot for a year, anyone with the smallest amount of airline knowledge in any country knows that 'SU' is the two-letter IATA code for Aeroflot. I am in no way talking about the Soviet Union it doesn't even make sense in the context of my statements. How can you work for Aeroflot and not know your company's own letter code?
And btw, I'm well studied in the history of at least 50 nations...incl USSR.
@Starboard76 Ah now I got it =))) LOL In our office we NEVER called our company as a SU, it's just the first two letters of a flight number for us. I worked there in a financial dpt. Bthw way nobody in Russia calls Aeroflot a SU, I guess that's a plainspotters theme =) The rest reply I've sent you as a PM.
@YaropolkMSK ..it seems other than your 'year of working' at SU (Aeroflot) , your affiliations & interest in civil aviation is minimal. No one 'calls' Aeroflot 'SU'... but people with rounded airline knowledge even photog/videographers or aficionados - 'all' know that in 'written' form (of conversation/discussion)...SU is indeed Aeroflot. No one says 'SU' or AZ, 9W. Only 4 airlines are spoken in 'coded terms' universally, AA-American, UA - United Airlines, BA- British Airways & EK - Emirates.
@Starboard76 I am Brasilian of Russian parents. I speak 6 languages and now live in Chicago and Miami. My favorite airline used to be VARIG, but they died and probably went to hell. Now my favorite is TAM " The Magic Red Carpet ". I just love aviation and wish all aviators the best !!!!
I hope, our Aeroflot will return-back that sexy aircraft as b777. Sure, a330 with rr trents 700 is also very nice bird. but wish to see both of 777 and 330s together with aerflot :) here is B777-200ER with the biggest engine evere - GE90,sounds sexy during the idle-taxing from the sde and back
@EpiDemic117 really??? No, what i've heard, they really have the orders for perspective on B787 Drealiner and Airbus A350. But havent heard anything about B777s... :)
@AirCanadaA55555A they only had the two ships and they found themselves constantly and abruptly assigning them on routes/missions and then changing them to be reassigned somewhere else. It seems the consensus is that Aeroflot felt it was too much plane to make a bigger fleet commitment with 777 and simply chose to dispose of them and go with smaller aircraft, kinda like Delta at the time relying wholly on the 767, just as Delta did at one point.
@Starboard76 You are absolutely wrong! Aeroflot leased those planes from 1998 to 2005, the contract was signed for 7 years. When the contract was over they've ordered 2 Boeing 777-200ER, 6 Boeing 777-300ER and 26 Boeing 787-8. Plus they use other big planes (IL-96-300 for ex.). So plz don't make up anything!
@YaropolkMSK 2) they would have! That is why they return the ships. Every airline on earth leases ships, the SU lease was no different. Aeroflot back then was not as aggressive and progressive as it is now. Today it recognizes it has fierce competition, thus the change & the A319s, A320s, A330s and now the 777s and 787s. SU is going in a new direction than when it operated the 2 777s. You act like the attitude then is the same as it is today. Learn some history before you lecture anyone!
@Starboard76 Me not knowing what am I talking about? Huh... funny. Have spent more than a year working in Russian airlines (Aeroflot actually) and still have a good friend/collegue working there. Man, you know nothing about russian price market, and how it actually works. "Every airline on earth leases ships" - Uhhh... you forgot about secured lending (don't mix up with financial and operating leasing) and WOW you won't believe - direct owning! Never say EVERY airline on EARTH!...
@YaropolkMSK oh? Give me the name of an scheduled service airline that has been in service longer than 1 year .. that has not ever leased an aircraft. I guarantee you that you cannot. Everyone has done it or is doing it from Transaero, S7, Aeroflot to United, American to TAM to Cubana to Air Canada, etc..they have all done it.
So please...prove me wrong. Or be a man..and admit that you are wrong!
Beautiful sight! Would love to fly Aeroflot. Shame the 777s aren't around anymore, that was a unique livery for the type, I remember not loving it at the time (looked like the engines were on fire!) but I see it now and miss the cheatline and exotic colours. Keep on rocking Aeroflot!
It is such a pleasure to see some Aeroflot 777 footage on you tube.
Sadly they only leased and operated them (only 2 I believe) for a short time. I think they were classic with the aeroflot cheat-lines and black color under the cockpit windows (what are these for by the way?) and with great looking engine and tail designs.
Although the current silver fuselage scheme of Aeroflot is very photogenic, the 777 one of a kind.
Lovely!!! Do you remember what a big deal it was back then that Aeroflot was flying Boeing 767s and 777s? My Lufthansa A321 pulled in next to one of these beauties at Moscow Sheremetyevo on my first visit to Russia in 2004 and all I could do was smile!
yeah, that was a pretty big brouha about nothing..SU might be a different airline had they powered straight ahead without hesitation and went for improved product/service/air fleet 777/767-as they are doing with airbus currently. But we have the proof they existed.
Oh that's right, you told that before. Yes yes yes...way too cold. I was telling that to Tbird206 'about shooting in the cold in Boston...I don't know how he does it.
It will be operated in 2013 again in Aeroflot. I can't wait!
