    this is truly amazing!!

    *cries*

  • Did they ever produce a soundtrack for this production?

  • alan is amazing!!!!! he is gonna be in "Spiderman the Musical"

  • one of my top tony performances EVER

  • Couldn't help it shedding tears, i've never heard Cyn singing opera, She never stops surprising me =) Delightful!!!

  • ...to be poor's an illness...and this was the cure.....

    perfect.

  • ....to be poor's an illness, and this was the cure.....

    perfect.

  • loooveee my idol cyn! and she did an awesome job ... i dont know but something is telling me that alan cumming had a crush on cyndi =) u gotta see some PICS ´HEHEHE

  • This song is so so trash! I'm almost shocked, really!!! And trust me, I know long about trash ahahah.

It is so well written! creapy, fantastic, amazing. And of coure my girl Cyndi did her show as her only knows how to do it.

    Great duet and interpretation.

  • whenever i watch this i get a huge urge to watch xmen.

  • OH MY GOD.

okay this was the first tony award performance i ever watched and i remember LOVING IT and singing the melody for like weeks afterward even though i had no idea what show it was from.

and now i get to hear it again all because richard elfman put something about it in his blog on buzzine

    JOYFUL DAY!!! :D

  • is this the english version of bert brechts 3 groschen oper?

  • shit! i saw her at the true colors tour, and she is so friggin beautiful still! this song is just so good.

  • cindy is amazing, 6 stars for her

  • I love this so much. I know that there isn't a cast recording. :( But does anyone know if there is any sort of English language recording, in existence at all?

  • does anyone know if there is a cast reording of this?

  • :)Is just perfect this duet!!! And she....she is beautiful..she had over 50 years old there, my God!! Shalom!

  • She did?!

  • They are brilliant

  • LOVE IT =D

  • This is definitely a good interpretation. I have also heard the original cast recording of this song, & have to say that's just as good.

  • this is my third time commenting this:

    ALAN CUMMING IS THE SEX

  • Her voice has got the strength required for Jenny and it's also got that raw beauty. And she has an amazing range!

  • when ever I hear Alan Cummings sing, I only hear Caberet. I don't think that is good.

  • god I love this. Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper are both perfectly cast, sexy as hell, and their voices sound factastic. Riveting...

  • I'm just speechless with cyn's performance .... she's not just amazing in singing and heart .. she's also amazing in actinggg! OMG!!:... BROADWAY LOVES U DOLL ... KEEP GOING .. love love love to m y queen

  • i don't really like these lyrics, but they are so much easier to sing, especially the bit with the customer. the lyrics we're using are way too tongue-twisty

  • dude. nightcrawler can sing

  • This must be the fiftieth time I've watched this video. Amazing!

  • im afraid im confused. I loked the singing though. Very well trained and polished.

  • Alan Cummings is absolutely amazing, and I'd never even heard Cindi Lauper before. I'd only ever heard of her name. This song's absolutely great

  • I can't stop watching this. It's addictive!

  • she sounds very well trained on this. I have to disagree with the other comment by someone saying they were just good. They are amazing. And Cyndi lauper is superb.

  • i agree with you... this song its amazing.... and she sings the song so so so dramatically.. its amazing....

  • i love him

  • This aesthetic is simply superb. I don't feel Brecht transfers to the Broadway stage well. Cindi Lauper is surprisingly good to me. No, she doesn't seem well trained vocally, but she does a fine job as an actress. I was impressed with her performance to say the least. Alan Cumming is great in this as well.

  • Many will agree with me, but I am furious also because there is no cast album for this interpretation of The Three Penny Opera

  • I'll double check that.

  • I quite like it, even with the English text. Alan Cummings and Cindi Lauper make me happy

  • This is sad to me, because Alan cummings is SO incredible yet he is so UNDERrated....

  • This song has been stuck in my head for 2 days now.

I feel like I'm going insane.

  • Now you can see Cyndi Lauper's talent!

  • I want to play that role SO bad...

  • Cummings...his name says it all.

  • I would never have known that this was Alan Cumming if I hadn't read the description.

    MAN, he is GOOD!

  • omg. i love it. it's all so amazing

  • cyndi performance was amazing! that's why i love her so much! because she's unique, gorgeous, sensitive, and a great artist! like no one else! return to peru cyn! 2009 cyn 2009!

  • cyndi !!! maestra

    diosa

    diva

  • Yes. I never heard any news of it after this performance? I lie. I read one critique. But, excuse me for sounding ignorant: is it still playing? If not, when was it taken off?

  • The show closed I believe the Sunday after the Tony Awards...it was a limited run at Roundabout.

  • I adore this!

  • I saw this performed live, and different version, and they said basically that he forced her to have an abortion, not that her child died.

  • Cumming = SEXY.

  • um, yes.

    and that accent!? zomg.

  • ^-------^ Cumming = infinite sexiness

    -Kiki

  • ^_^ Cumming = infinite sexiness...

    -Kiki

  • YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

  • Would it have killed the Tony's to get a female singer instead of this scratchy hag who sounds like she eaten bad clams. Cindy Lauper - how played is that.

  • There is no need for animosity. Yeesh.

and lets get this right....its Cyndi Lauper

Before you go around criticizing make sure you can spell their names please.

  • I agree. I love her scratchy voice in this. It fits perfectly. I love this!!

    plus.......Cumming is sooo hot.

  • agreed!!!

    to both!

  • Thank you, for this role lauper is perfect.

i actually love her voice in this, could not think of a better fit.

  • Yeah, I agree too. Her voice is quite suitable for the material.

  • Oh fuck yer! I'd tap that lol

Cyndi Lauper is like...the master in music.

  • also shes the one on broadway moron hence shes on the tonys. there the casts dip shit

  • As far as English language productions go, the Donmar Warehouse version is way better.

  • The Tony's didn't get anyone. She performed the part on Broadway, to rave reviews, might I add.

    And her voice is brilliant.

  • Have you heard the original of this role --- Lotte Lenya?

  • Ummm except that's not the Tony's decision. Besides Cyndi is great in this. And she's probably a way better singer than you are so stop bitching and if you don't like it, then don't watch it. That simple.

  • Wow...not a Cyndi Lauper fan....lol.

  • also the tonys didn't "get" her - she was in the broadway cast - of the tony nominated show

and i think her voice is perfect for the role

  • "Scratchy hag"?? Are you F...ing kidding me? This fabulous Diva (who played the role on Broadway) can sing rings around most pop and rock singers - do your homework before you post you ignorant idiot! I've even heard her scat with Aretha, not only keeping up with her but holding her own perfectly solid. You obviously have NO ear. Wow....I'm still stunned you said that. Brecht is extreemly challenging and both she and Alan nailed it....beautifully! I only wish they had filmed the piece.

  • haha i love it

  • Whoever did this translation needs to work on his/her rhyme scheme.

  • Wallace Shawn, go figure

  • i'm sooo pissed that there's isnt a soundtrack for this musical

  • there is a soundtrack, tho the lyrics are diffrent to whats sung here

  • There are many many cast recordings of Threepenny Opera, there just wasn't one made of this cast for many reasons...most of Roundabout's shows don't get cast recordings, and this production was also very poorly reviewed and I don't think anyone wanted to spend the money to record it.

  • They call it "The Ballad of the Pimp" or in German "Die Zuhälterballade". Lauper and Cumming should have sung the original german text, as it was poorly translated to english.

  • ive got the actual english translation- i'll agree this is a poor adaptation- and the songs still listed as "tango ballad".

  • what is the name of this song?

  • this song is called "The Ballad of the Pimp."

  • What's the whole plot line?

  • The name of this song is the Knocking Shop Tango

  • i also think its stunning cummings was very sexy and powerful and lauper pulled it off to bad a lot of critics did not appreciate it

  • Only a simple word: ART

  • Das ist die heilige Kunst ;)

  • Why in the others Tango Ballad's video the lyrics are different than this duet with Alan Cumming and Cindy Lauper??? I can't found a text with the same words! I'm really desperate! However, who has got this track? Can you send it to me? PLEASE!!

    See Ya

  • I wish the translation was more accurate

  • Steven was an amazing Mackie! and Wimberlie an great Jenny!

  • Cyndi looks sexy as hell in this. I love her to death.

  • I never would have expected this from Cyndi Lauper. She's fantastic.

  • AHHH! I LOVE that mohawk hes sporting!

  • This is my favorite song from the threepenny opera. xD Thanks for uploading.

  • Does anyone know what the name of this song is

  • The ballad of the pimp

  • Ballad of the Pimp?

  • Knocking Shop Tango

  • isn't it ballad of the pimp?

  • Zuhälterballade

  • the Tango Ballad

  • The Tango Ballad

or, The Ballad of the Pimp

  • Tangoballad.

  • "Die Zuhälterballade" ( Pimps ballad )

  • Depending on the production, it's either known as the Ballad of the Pimp or as the Tango Ballad.

  • Or the Knocking Shop Tango (Dunmare Warehouse)

  • Pirate Jenny, if I right remember...

  • The Tango Ballad, my friend.

  • The knocking shop tango

  • I'm so sad that this didn't do as well as I hoped. Cummings is amazing but I heard he was an ass

  • No, Alan is not an ass. If you have ever watched one of his interviews you would know he was very down to Earth. He's such a sweet heart, and bloody brilliant! Who ever told you he was an ass needs to look-up the info before telling everyone. I love Alan!

  • Alan is a charming, lovely, professional artist. I'm sad anyone would think him otherwise. He does play some mean characters....like in "Circle Of Friends". Perhaps some people can't detach fact from fiction. You should Youtube his interviews.

  • Cyndi's amazing. she's got about three or for octaves!

  • This is so amazing... Cumming is so damn sexy/scary, and Lauper just floors me! I love them. <3

  • Im sorry that in this production, Cyndi did not get to sing Pirate Jennys song. Was the show recorded?

  • Lauper never fails to surprise and impress!!!

  • Beggar's Opera is a different work completely, much earlier and writen by John Gay. Threepenny Opera was based on Beggar's Opera.

  • Amazing. Cyndi is the best.

  • She is 53 years old there!

She looks like she is in her late 20s. Damn she looks good!

  • Heck yeah! She's still got it :)

  • cydni lauper is a goddess

  • I missed this on TV. Thank you for posting it. I can say that Alan Cummings is wonderful in this, but I'm too biased for Cyndi to know if she's really great or it's just because I think she's fantastic at whatever she does.

  • Right about Cyndi on both counts! Don't doubt your judgment about Cyndi! She is ALL, vocally LIMITLESS. She is a wellspring of talent! There are moments (vocally) she channels the divine Lotte Lenya, but she is INIMITABLY her own performer and her own character. I want to marry Alan Cumming.

  • I was skeptical myself before I saw this clip, but I think she gives a wonderful performance. She exhibits perfectly the haunted, broken nature of the character, and her voice suits the role very well, IMO.

  • I got tickets to see him in NY in July

    100x EXCITED

has anyone ever met him? If so, what was he like?

  • Why the HELL isn't there a cast recording!?

    This is so amazing!

    Alan is pure sensuality.

  • I want to drool when he looks at the camera at "to be poor is an illness." So hot, I want to melt, he is so funny, hot, and a great singer and actor. Love him. Thanks.

  • cydni lauper is awesome and gorgeous

  • true that alyslikesfao

  • Amy's newest movie, Full Grown Men, opens June 25th at the Cinema Village Theater in New York. Opens in San Francisco and Miami in July.

  • I guess I just don't appreciate the arts or somethn' cause that was completely sensless to me

  • You'll get it when you've lived life. This is very deep.....

  • Alan Cumming is a theater GOD.

  • so sad they didn't come out with a CD!! I'm reading the play in my free time and I always imagine alan as macheath...ABSOLUTELY BRILL

    I LOVE YOU ALAN!!

  • Alan looks HOT here!

  • OMG Alan's voice was made for this song...it's orgasmic.

    ~JM

  • wow!!

    this is wonderful!!

    I always loved alan cummings

  • *cumming

    sorry :)

  • she moves like a sim!

  • oh my god, you're right.

  • I remember when I saw this for the first time, I was blown away.

  • their voices are perfect for these roles.

  • i think i am in love with alan. mhm. i can't stop watching this performance either, brilliant. and i love that look on the girl behind alan's face at the end.

  • These two would have been perfect as Sweeney and Mrs Lovett. What a shame the movie was spoilt because of ill-judged and nepotistic casting.

    What might have been!

  • omg best idea ever

  • this number is so strange... i dont get it...

  • I saw this and it as great. I am so sad that a recording never came out of it. Alan Cummings was simply fantastic. He was nice as well when we stage doored. Cyndi was okay overall, but Alan just... DAMN!

  • the most beautiful song of threepenny opera. both male and female performers are wonderful.(nowadays DICLE UNIVERSITY plays this musical.)

  • for the record. i saw this when it was on broadway. sexiest performance ever right there.

  • I love this performance......Alan Cumming is one sexy piece of Scottish man, and he can sing, 2? *drool* And Cyndi? OMG!! She looks amazing, considering how old she is. I abso-freakin-lutely LOVE her voice! These two are powerful together!

  • omigod alan cumming is so fuckin sexy...too bad he's gay...*sigh*...such talent. and cyndi looks fuckin amazing for her age

  • ALAN<3333

  • i remeber this to i put an extra comment its still pending lol cause its quite a weird rauchy broadway i like cyndi lauper alot dont get me wrong.

  • Cyndi looks sexy actually, kinda of a clever raunchy broadway!!I remember this?So I pretend I'm your lover we have a child I'm gay by the way the says to her still in love with you in a relationship with you and I have a jealouse ex-boyfriend I still see in between others and one stalks me and shoots me lol I get it... sounds like the real deal to me.

  • Why does th gun come out at the end?

  • Does anyone know if there is a CD available with the soundtracvk from this production ( with Cumming)? I cant seem to find one!

  • I don't think they did a cast recording of this, unfortunately.

  • It's very sad but there isn't one. The show was cancelled before they could make one! =[

  • hes kida creepy but then again he's were spandex chest hair!!!!!!!! hes funny when he says snak!!! hahahhha

  • I wish someone would come out with a translation thats closer to the German. This is great and well performed, but a little of the original story is always lost in the English translation

  • Is this a revival of the original Three Penny Opera by Kurt Weill?...or is it modernized in some way?

  • Just noticed the similarity between Cyndi's hair and Helena Bonham Carter's in Sweeney. If they ever did make a film for this anyone else think Tim Burton would suit it?

  • Burton should have choosen Cyndi as Mrs Lovett!! thats my opinion, even though Helena Bonham Carter would have hit him with her rolling-pin at home!

  • Oh my God, you are so right. I never thought about that. She would have been great!!! I mean, she's a great actress AND singer! Helena just really couldn't hold a note if her life depended on it.

  • i heard Cyndi was considered for Mrs. Lovett.

  • I think he could but only if he casts Cyndi and Alan because. Honestly though, I love Helena, but she just cannot sing. No matter what anyone says she just can't. Compared to the other great Mrs. Lovett's there have been (Patti LuPone!!!) Helena sounds like crap next to them. It's embarassing.

  • here here!

  • Can someone please explain this scene to me?

  • a pimp and a madame in a tortured relationship.

  • a pimp and a madame in a tortured relationship.

  • Cyndi is a prostitute, who used to be Alan Cumming's lover. He revisits her brothel, and she is about to betray him.

  • I remember seeing this and I am so glad to have found it. How it stuck out in my mind

  • Is there any place at all to get a recordin
