I also do not understand the floppy wushu weapons, you need to get grace and flow with real weight weapons, that is the whole point. a dao would only weigh about 1 pound or more, it really would not take that much longer to learn with a proper weapon, IMHO
Wuhsu steel weapons are made light for ease of practice and weapon control. While I'm more of a practical MA fan, and thus, enjoy more traditional heavier built weaponry, I understand why it is so, wushu emphasizes the ART part of war arts, while practicals emphasize the War part of war art. This way they can achieve balance, grace, and flow without requiring the insane conditioning and soldiering of a heavier weapon. Hope that helps, and thank you for posting this.

This is a really nice video! It would be better if he wasnt using that flimsy sword. I dont know what people see in those "wushu steel" weapons.
