Just thinking here...If Apple had stayed with IBM, it would soon have Power7 processors with 8 cores per chip, two chips per module, 4 threads per core, all at 3.8GHz (or 4.1 for the quad cores). Thats 64 threads per module, if they used two (like the octacore Mac Pro does) then 128 threads just in one machine. IBM demonstrated a machine using Power7 with 8 octacore processors in it, for 256 concurrent threads. Just some food for thought, I know switching to Intel was a good move though.

I was getting ready to yell at some people but then I noticed they were 2 CPU's, because the gulftown which will be the next superpower is an hexa - core lol.

Seems like a processing beast, but you could do better if you assembled your own pc.

The only things I would change, would be the GPU to a 5xxx or wait for Fermi (Thus it seem it will be a neverendless wait). And those RAM memories are kinda slow huh?

How many GB is your ssd? Did you install the ssd after you gave the tour of the Mac Pro? Just wondering because it looked like there was another HD installed when you gave the tour. Can you do a video about how you installed the SSD? Did the SSD come from Apple or 3rd party? Does it affect your warranty? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn about these Mac Pro's. Also, did you have to install the OS and other programs onto the SSD yourself, then other things saved to reg HDs?

Maybe I'll get the Mac Pro next time I upgrade. Yesterday I went on the Apple Store and bought myself a new 27" iMac with the Intel Core i7 option.

So far ,after using it for 2 hours, its really amazing. But I am sure, with no doubts, this system overkills it lol

sorry mate but it isnt a i7 in there, its two new Intel (Nehalem) Xeon's. thats how u get 8 cores. You cannot get a dual of quad cpu configuration with the i7. great vid mate, nice to see another aussie doing well.

No offence buddy but your intros look pretty great, as do your videos *Cough*, I use this for not only editing (Photoshop,FCE,Aperture and Imovie) I also use it to an extent for small amounts of gaming and it runs my everyday apps (Tweetdeck, Adium,Mail,Soundflower,Skype,W­ord,Terminal,X11,iTunes,iPhoto etc.). And btw the intro wasn't made in Imovie.

next year Mac Pro will use 32nm technology, the 2008 and 2009 models Mac Pro uses 45nm processors, I have a 3.2 dual quad-core Mac Pro compared to a 2.93 the one you have is not that far off and don't see the point on getting the current Mac Pro if i'm not going to see the difference in speed, plus theirs rumours but don't know how creditable it is but new tower design may be in the works, but for right now I just continue to use my 08 Mac Pro until next year

wow that is a seriously nice setup. dual i7 is crazy, and that ATI card is pretty hot. Good job getting SSD aswell, loads of people get similar specs then bottleneck themselves with a 7200RPM HDD which they think is adequately fast.
