  • Is there a stereo version of this some where?

  • loved this song since I was a kid. Thank you for posting.

I never knew who it was by but, It's always been in my memory

  • wow, how fun were their gigs? Once is not enough!

  • i saw them at one of the toledo speedway jams back in the 80's. there were several bands, i think ac/dc was the headliner. anyway, kingbees got booed off stage. people were throwing stuff. Bad thing is, they were good. The crowd was the wrong one for them and they were very rowdy too. felt sorry for them.

  • They played at Wild Bill's in Flint MI back in 82....awesome song. My buddy Crazy Frank will still play this song on Thursdays at Cobblestone for those who are in the Flint area.

  • Hookiest bass line since the Bobby Fuller Four's "Let Her Dance". Should have been a No. 1.

  • EPIC

  • i see what they were doing, playing as low on guitar as u can,I love it

  • I think i saw them open for another act,Frank Moreno and Mahogany Rush perhaps,I lost those brain cells years ago :)

  • This cool song reached #81 in the summer of 1980. (U.S., Billboard)

  • This band got a fair bit of airplay in Ontario, Canada in the early 80's if I'm recalling correctly. I bought one of their albums and it was loaded with great songs. Played the heck out of it. LOL.

  • A great song from 1980. I always thought the lead singer in this sounded so much like John Lennon.

  • I WENT OUT TO SEE IF I COULD FALL IN LOVE AGAIN

    THAT WAS MY MISTAKE

    THAT WAS MY MISTA-A-A-AKE

  • Saw them at the Second Chance in Ann Arbor, 81? 82? I ferget. I rember the first time I heard this song...I thought is was just the coolest. Of course I was really into rockabilly. My GF just didn't get it. (of course now an "ex_GF")

  • But you catch yourself fighting like a junkyard dog. Too many people got smiles and they lie like a log

  • My band Rosewood and Steel just performed this at Summerfest at the Harley Stage. Guess who sang the lead? hehe... yep me

    Be well Rockers

    Lorenzo

ps I love "Wishing" by th Kingbees too!

Jameson is way underrated by far. Their band was really good

  • My band Rosewood and Steel just performed this at Summerfest at the harkey Fest. Guess who snag the lead? hehe... yep me

  • Seen the King Bees back in the 80's at Center Stage, Canton MI........Fun times, they ended up playing My Mistake 3 times due to encores and bigger crowd later in night screaming for it.....Many beers ago!!!

  • lead singer jamie james born in toronto canada

  • Hey in the 90s i saw this group at the Belly Up Tavern - great show - not a dry body in the place - with my wife, her brother Pete and my brother Scott - great Rockabilly Band OR WHAT? Get this, i saw them at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach a couple of years before that - it WASN'T MY MISTAKE!

  • Saw the King Bees at one of the Toledo Speedway Jams August 17, 1980. It was an outdoor show with Love Affair, King Bees, Sammy Hagar, AC/DC w/Brian Johnson(vocals), and ZZ Top. At the time, I knew "my mistake" from the radio and still like it to this day. Rained like hell that day! I didn't know who Sammy Hagar was. Back in Black was brand new and they opened the show with the bells from Hells Bells. Great day to watch some serious music.

  • thank you for posting! I miss Termite58's K-She classic uploads! this was one of them.

  • Sorry about the typo...His name is Jamie James. I mis-spelled it below.

  • Wow. Nice to see how everyone still digs the Kingbees. I was the skinny blond drummer in the band from '86 to '96 and played all those Lighthouse dates, Belly Up Tavern, all the tours to Michigan and surrounding states. The band formed and made two albums in L.A., quickly fell apart and vanished. Two years later, James James, Rikky Venus aka Eric Pelton, and I, Danny O'Brien resurrected the songlist and hit the road. Thanks for the nice words.

  • @soulmandannyo SEEN YOU GUYS @ THE ROXY YRS AGO YOU OPENED UP FOR 999 GREAT FRIGGIN SHOW GLAD TO SEE YOUR STILL AROUND ! Did you have asong called The Big One ? or something similiar ? Good stuff man thanks bro ! Patrick

  • These boys are Canadian

    Jamie Jamesin

  • @elrip1 Jamie James was the only Canadian. I was the bass player and I'm from Los Angeles, which is where the band formed. The drummer, Rex Roberts, was from Indiana.

  • I am from Michigan - HOME of the Great HOCKEY TEAM - The RED WINGS who Beat

The Phoenix COYOTES TONIGHT!!LOL -----I am not sure this Band is from Michigan

    I WISH!!!!They were GREAT!

  • I thought these guys were from Michigan or someplace...like that

  • @Raptorizor New York...They played at Wild Bills in Flint MI during the early 80's

  • I still LOVE THIS BAND AM I STUPID OR WHAT?

  • Stray Cats era. These guys rocked! Outlaws, Rockpile, Spanic Boys, Robert Gordon, Blasters, Los Lobos. Too cool cats and chicks

  • takes me back to the Barrelworks ...good times

  • remember seeing them in hermosa beach CA at the Lighthouse back in the late 80's loved them... also sat next to them at a denny's outside of san diego one late night - lol!

  • I remember this song from when I was a kid, just the other day it popped in my head so I had to search it !!!

Thanks for providing it !!! Thumbs Up ! 5 Stars !!!

  • This band should have been huge. In college I played their lps and people freaked. They are that good. Have a tape some where of the King Biscuit show live. Great live too.

  • @LuvSilly

Yes ... great tune. I just picked up my guitar and picked this off.

Been some time since I heard it last.

  • @LuvSilly "This band should have been huge."

Right about that. I worked two "cabarets" that they played (small venue, tables, dance floor, alcohol served, maybe 800 people) and man, was it a party. They sounded the same live as they do on the LP's. Too bad we can't get a compilation on CD.

  • @trailrunner78 Correct, I saw them in the SFV at the Rock Corporation. They sounded exactly like this, except for the singer's lower voice than the record. They went on to be a notorious, LA bar band after this early success. I think they owed everything to the DJ's at KROQ who spun the record quite often back then.

  • No doubt about it, Bees are King!

  • I'm Nobodys Fool......eh Janny?

  • Jamie James and the Kingbees played here in Traverse City back in the 80's still think they should have been Bigger.

  • The vocalist always reminded me of Ian Hunter.

  • A great band!

  • Royal Oaks Finest (I Think... :]) lol

  • you and I been going steady for over a year and it was sorta startin feelin like the end was near N'our love is dying, but I can't hide it I'm sorry honey but I wanna rock I saw a real fine girl at the market place she had a nice way o'walking and real fine face a voice like Mike, I don't understand I'm sorry Jake but it's my mistake well, MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake yes, MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake aww get it right now honey... I had to choose between school and a rock and roll band
  • @ytcurmudgeon Not 100% sure, but I think it should be "A voice like a MAN, I don't understand..." (rhymes better, for one thing). Also, "too many people got smiles and they lie like a LOG" (a common phrase). That's the way I hear it, so I thought I'd chime in.

  • I made up my mind to rock as fast as i can I don;t want no teachers or their rules you got it right I'm nobodies fool but, don't catch yourself smiling like a cheshire DAWG too many people got smiles and they lie like a lout it's hard to place an honest face I'm sorry honey, but it's my mistake well it's, MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake yeah it's, MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake ooh, MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake my my my my my my my my my my my my oooh MY,my,MY,my,MY,my,MY,mistake

  • jamie james is my uncle, great guy.

  • Tell your uncle I've thought this was a cool song since I first heard it back when I was a kid.

  • Cool! I remember hearing this song about 3 times in Detroit in 1980 and loved it.! And it only reached #81? WTF??? This is definately Lennon influenced. Sounds a lot like him. I can't find the lyrics anywhere and I want to sing this in my cover band, Jambox. @ mediaman2004 on YouTube.

Maybe you or someone out there can post the lyrics.

  • @biglouguitar

Geez! 3 of my friends and I fought over his tape back in the late 70's. Finally wore it out but finally found another one on Melrose Blvd.

  • this singer always reminded me of Ian Hunter

  • This great song reached #81 in 1980.

  • i was there for most of their shows at the lighthouse.

  • Where was the light house?

I saw these guys a bunch of times after a friends band opened for them one night at a roller rink in Hollywood. They looked scared of us (too hardcore I guess). Eventually they figured out we went because we liked the music.

Hung out with Mike and Rex at the Country Club in Reseda a bunch of times after that.

    Great times.

  • Dean, they apparenlty had two. Check amazon for their offerings.

  • is this off the 4 song lp from many moons ago?
