As for taking prayer out of schools, are you referring to an absence of mandatory prayer in public schools, or a ban on praying in school period? The former is a defense of our freedom of religion while the latter is a violation, so the distinction is important.

Libya is also now becoming fractured, and it's looking likely that the war will continue on for a very long time. Meanwhile, we bleed trillions.

Four slave states (Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, and Kentucky) remained part of the Union, and West Virginia seceded from Virginia. Every other state in the union had prohibited slavery before Lincoln's election.

Are we still a free nation? Yes. The US still has its sovereignty, free and fair elections still exist, and we still have means of recourse through which to make known our grievances. There's a free press, free speech still exists, yup, we're pretty free by any measure.

As for taking prayer out of schools, are you referring to an absence of mandatory prayer in public schools, or a ban on praying in school period? The former is a defense of our freedom of religion while the latter is a violation, so the distinction is important.

Cultures evolve, jhunted7667. Things change over time. The United States was during the time of its founding significantly less ethnically, religiously, and politically diverse than it is today. With the introduction of these influences comes change.
Christianity is still the largest religion by population in the USA, but the population has come to believe that it shouldn't hold a hegemony over the culture and its politics. Time marches on, and the people have spoken.

@PhiloAmericana As for the Iran-Contra affair... You do know that we had traded arms to the Iranians in exchange for US intel that were being held hostage by a terrorist cell? And the Iranian militant had then attacked the terrorist cell, nearly destroying it. Now, the funding of the Contras...is a near myth. Reagan had supported the cause for it was anti-commie, there was no evidence, even after the two investigations, that Reagan had funded the Contras with the money recieved by the Israelis.

So, it's probally not a good idea to have soldiers disrespecting the local religion, going out for trophy kills, cussing, and violating local moral codes. But we bypass that entirely. Instead, we support a dictator (Afghanistan), set the pretext for a civil war (Iraq), and end up backing and supporting militant Islamists (Libya & Afghanistan).

@thegrim418 Afghanistan is now ruled by a dictator and is a narco-state. Iraq is fractured, and the government is not functioning, its electricity levels are lower than Saddam levels to this day. It has left the country with millions of refugees in other countries. Hundreds of thousands have died, with some estimates going into the millions. Libya is also now becoming fractured, and it's looking likely that the war will continue on for a very long time. Meanwhile, we bleed trillions.

Four slave states (Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, and Kentucky) remained part of the Union, and West Virginia seceded from Virginia. Every other state in the union had prohibited slavery before Lincoln's election.

@TariqAlSuave Very true, I just dont like to hear that the only people to have slaves were southerners. When Some of the north had slaves as well. I disagree with slavery regardless, im from the south myself and i think that you shouldnt be able to call something yours unless it was earned by the sweat of your brow. So that being said im only making a point about who all had slaves. So why dont you say say Nuke Maryland or any of the other places when they were to blame just as the south was?

The aforementioned border states were culturally and politically Southern in 1861; all had voted uniformly against Lincoln the previous year (he won only St. Louis county in any of the border states) and all (except West Virginia) flirted with joining the Confederacy.
I said Atlanta because it was burned in the war.

@nyr1994 Thanks, nyr1994. But the USA ain't as good as it used to be. We are drowning in debt. But there are still tons of great Americans .... unfortunately not many of them are in politics! I like the other "Top Comment" too, with the quote from President Reagan. Now lots of Moslem nations are rising up against their governments, trying to gain more freedom, too. Great thing about freedom .... it is infectious.

@chriswojo I know. People dont realise christianity is our heritage and culture and without it we just let our countries get walked over by muslims and political correctness. Im still a Christian i dont attend church but i still believe that christianity will eventually be as big as it once was when the muslims piss everone by doing these suicide bombings and a nationalist goverment gets rid off them.

Well let's see. Slavery is a European institution as was the first concentration and death camp centuries ago. That is also the continent which gave the globe two violent world wars, a slew of dictators, communism, fascism, and socialism. Am I thankful that I am an American? You bet your ass I am. I thank God every day that people like Washington, Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin had the balls and the guts to stand up and beat the British bullies and colonial oppressors.

America loves their troops because the men and women who serve her military have given up their most basic human right, the right to individuality.
