The guards are many times COMBAT soldiers. I've had to explain to idiot American tourists that they aren't some joke. I tell them Americans are ignorant of the situation and they nod. I know them, they are serious troops and highly trained combat veterans of Afghanistan. Dealing with idiots is a serious pain in the ass. I have to admit, one of the funniest things I've ever seen was a group of Swedish hotties trying to mess the guard up. He's human, they had him lose concentration.

@ploetzlich30 It's not a "clip" it's a magazine. He has 30 rounds of which to make contact with. I'd say with the 30+ weeks of combat infantry training and possible Afghan deployments, he'd be able to make "contact" with his rounds.

He's a combat infantryman, from the Grenadier Guards, who are first and foremost Front line infantry and Ceremonial Guard second.

I'd like to think he prefers this duty to possibly stepping on an IED in Afghan'

Norwegians and Brits fought together during the WW2, and Norwegians played an important role beacuse of our long coastline. I am more proud of our work for peace though :)

So, I read up on the 201, Canadian Drill Manual, and apparently, arms aren't acctually supposed to go up to breast pocket height, and knees don't go up 90 degrees. Both are only supposed to go up 45! The only times they go up to 90 is for training purposes, but people have gotten carried away, and just gone with what they were taught, rather than what is in the regulations.
