So generally, does this take longer than powder extrusion? It seems as if it should, though I'm not entirely sure. I'm sorry if I sound stupid, I'm an enthusiatic but new recruit to the 3d printing world. :-D

Heheh, that's just what I wanted this machine for! Think about all those wicked bongs and pipes you could make ;)

C'mon, it that the best use of this machine?! (though it certainly could do it)
Why on Earth would you do that!?!?
You need to think BIGGER, like making a machine that makes bongs.
(Just kidding, Omniscient Big Brother Google, I believe in other peoples' right to use something no worse than alcohol.)
Cool stepper motor sounds, someone should sample this and make music!
(Or better yet, program it in such a way that it plays songs and it creates musical instruments, at the same time!)

good video. How is it making all those sounds?

The stepper motors are stepped at rates which can be 100's or 1000's of steps per second. That causes them to make tones in the audio range.
The z-axis motor is particularly noisy because it is mounted on a wooden box.
The loudest noise is just the DC gearmotor driving the extruder.
