  • Carrick produces nothing for Man U. To weak to be a Man U starter. He plays too slow! I always see him standing and walking after he passes the ball. He's not good enough to help break down a good midfield. Same with Giggs. He's had his time and should retire and work for one of Man Utd's staff.

  • we need him to run the show this sunday

  • Michael Carrick is the glue that holds the Man United midfield together. Without him they're fucked.

  • @seanthan98 How does this guy hold Man Utd's midfield together? You mean without Scholes were screwed. He doesn't work hard at all. Scott Parker and Xabi Alonso are by far way better than this guy at defensive midfielder! Man U plays at a lot slower tempo when Carrick's in without a doubt!

  • @spittingcamel01 Although Scholes is a better at controlling and dictating the midfield, Carrick gives better protection to the back four than scholes and all our other centre midfielders. Hence he is the glue. Without him there is less structure and discipline in our midfield. Scholes doesn't have the legs to do this role as well, Cleverley and Giggs aren't natural centre midfielders and like to be in more advanced positions and Anderson and Fletcher are box-to-box midfielders.

  • @spittingcamel01 He doesnt run with the ball, he's been playing defensively for almost 2 seasons. That's why you see him go for long ball forward rather than run with the ball. If he run with the ball, midfield area will be left with a gap for counter attacks. Remember his goal against qpr? He was playing off his position, should he lose the ball while breaking forward, and qpr scored, that would be his fault. Learn the game before talking.

  • just watch any current man united match and you'll see michael carrick all over the pitch at the right spot at the right time collecting missing balls or intercepting. he's got such a good conception and overview of the game at all times, and you very rarely see him missing a pass. thats his gift, but it's so often overlooked. one of few unsung heroes for utd, like park and fletch. they are the motor that lets united attack again and again, without them we would be torn apart time and time again

  • If you hate Carrick you really don't know much about the game.

  • i hope m.carrick plays this way this sunday against man city...;D

  • Good to see people talking sense about Carrick, I like his style and think he is good for the team, and Fergie wouldn't put him in if he wasn't up to the job!

  • Seriously man, just give up.. There's only so far you can go with this until you look ridiculous. Carrick might not be your kind of player, he might not live up to Keane's standards being a midfield general, he may not live up to Scholes standards creatively. But these are two of Utd's best ever players we're talking about here. Just because he doesn't match up doesn't mean he's bad, far from it.

He's a good player, a top professional and should be last in the queue of midfielders to get bashed

  • Carrick's last 10 starts of last season... v Blackburn 90% v Chelsea 84% v Arsenal 80% v Newcastle 91% v West Ham 81% v Bolton 82% v Liverpool 77% v Chelsea 81% v Wigan 88% v Villa 80%

Of course I don't need to tell you they were amongst the best stats in our team in all those games. Honestly, I don't know what games you're watching if he makes the most mistakes because from where I and many other Carrick fans are sitting, he makes less than all bar Ferdinand and Scholes.

  • Comment removed

  • Team stats v Swansea Carrick 96% Ferdinand 94% Rooney 92% Park 91% Jones 86% Vidic 84% Evra 81% Hernandez 78% De Gea 76% Giggs 67% Nani 66% Again no surprise to see Carrick and Ferdinand at the top yet again, they are our best passing midfielder and defender respectively.
  • Here's his and the team's stats v Newcastle, the game you weren't all that impressed with. Only defenders, like I said, boast a better ratio.. Surprisingly Evra had as good a ratio as the two centre defenders. Ferdinand 85% Vidic 85% Evra 85% Carrick 83% Nani 82% Rooney 80% Giggs 80% Fabio 77% Hernandez 76% Young 65% De Gea 62% Obviously the stats don't tell the full story, risky/safe passes, long/short passes etc. but Carrick will play the latter most of the time due to his role in the side.
  • Apparently he was majestic in his last two games according to somebody below. In the Newcastle game he passed the ball 54 times. 9 were misplaced. So he gives the ball away 1/6 of the time. Good player....

  • @TheSkatman101

Compared to Fletcher who gives it away 1/5 of the time, Anderson 1/4 of the time and Giggs who gives it away every 2nd or 3rd pass.. Yeah, he's pretty damn good at passing to his own teammates.

As for Benfica giving the ball away every time. Get a grip you complete and utter moron, 85% passing ratio including his fair share of long/forward passes which intrinsically result in less % of successful ones. And he was MOTM!!

Are you serious with all this?

  • So nobody here watched him give the ball away practically every time he got the ball v Benfica? You only saw the 2 decent through balls he did which were offside (not his faul ofcourse). OK, good analysis. Poor mans busquets? He's not even a poor man's Gibson.

  • @TheSkatman101

If you scrutinised every other player as much as you do Carrick, you'd be surprised how often they give the ball away.. You're intentionally looking for unsuccessful passes, not just bad ones and of course, as with all players, you'll find them. Then you try and say that justifies a bad performance, or on the larger scale: A bad player.

Your analysis is rubbish and extremely narrow-minded.

  • @logybear86 Your analysis is rubbish. Paraphrased slightly 'The other players are crap and he's just as crap, so yer he's great. Moron. It's fine, no point arguing as I don't respect the views of people who think he's good. For the record I know how bad Anderson's passing is. The video isn't about Anderson so pipe down. You don't know my opinions on the other players. I scrutinise the whole team but he makes the most mistakes. I'll upload a video of him v Benfica and link you.

  • @TheSkatman101

Go for it man.. He had a good game v Benfica and it'll show on your video unless it's edited! ; )

By the way my analysis back there was sarcasm in regards to your logic on his passing success. I wasn't trying to be accurate, just highlighting that Carrick makes less mistakes than the others, which is absolutely true. You say he makes more mistakes than the others and I find that baffling to be quite honest because he MOST CERTAINLY doesn't.

    Send it along to me.

  • @TheSkatman101

I'm serious here man... there's a very good chance that Carrick makes less mistakes in regards to passing the ball, than every other player in our team in every single game. And he would surely be in the top 3 most efficient passers in every game behind only Vidic and Ferdinand.. Because they're defenders and they have to play it very simple too.

Saying Carrick makes more mistakes than everyone is pure bullshit and I think you know that man.

  • Carrick does the job SAF asks of him and he does it great...

  • @tomika68

Nail on the head. Some of his haters would like to think he passes backwards or sideways because he's not able to play it forwards, or even better that he's afraid to!!

Even the biggest idiot in the world knows that he wouldn't get close to the team if that were the case. Fergie quite obviously tells him to play it simple and don't take risks, and why on earth would you tell a defensive holding midfielder any different?!!

  • You gotta love how calmly Carrick does things though. Look at the amount of times on this video where he just sticks a leg out and pokes it right to a teammate. Not even giving the opponent a chance to make the most of a more physical challenge. And we're on the attack again, no foul, no loose ball needing another challenge to fully regain possession. Simple. Effective. Unappreciated.

  • We really should splash out on Modric, I reckon he'd be worth every penny. He'd even be able to play CL even if signing him in january is a long shot. He can defend pretty well and is a very good footballer who can dictate tempo, and he can play the AM role or play alongside Cleverley with Carrick behind.

We really need to have players who work off each other and understand each other's game and that'll give us purpose in our play. Modric could be the man to ignite that in our side.

  • Goes missing in big games , the way it's looking at the moment city, madrids, milans, bayern, etc will over power man utd midfield, midfield is where the game is won, man utd want to sign modric, I,d play modric beside cleverly cause the two of them know how to work the ball and keep possession an have very good work rate,

  • @davidublin nah, this is just not true. since when do you considered games against Chelsea (see video ^) as not the 'big' ones? furthermore, he is usually very effective in those so called 'big' games - for evidence watch any match against Arsenal or Chelsea, or any UCL match (group or KO stage) exept maybe the one United held against Bayern at home. I, for one, remember how he deconstructed Mourinho's Internazionale.

  • @davidublin against barca in last years cl final he was probably our best playa and covered nearly 10k and thats not even the stat for 90 mins. hes underrated but what people see is his mistakes, they dont see what he does for the team and how he can control the game by doing simple things.

  • He is usually made the scapegoat and its totally unfair. I personally think he does a good job screening the back four and distributing intelligently. In the CL game against Scalke and Chelsea he was superb. In the modern game you need players like this. Chelsea would love someone who can do Carricks job Mikel isnt up to it. Lucas does it at Liverpool Busquets at Barca. The best were Pirlo and Redondo. The best now is Xabi Alonso.

  • He used to be really good now he's just a poor man's Sergio Busquets.

  • @PJPs911

He is good AND he is a poor man's Sergio Busquets.. Busquets just happens to be the best modern holding player in the world. Everyone else is a poor man's version of him really, but it's also the players surrounding Sergio that make it possible for him to be so effective and a key element of amazing football. Carrick hasn't had anything like that since Scholes was at his best consistently (2006/07)

  • He's been majestic in his last two games. Hopefully he can kick-on and go on a run of good form. He's a very good player, no doubt.

  • Nice Video . i am looking forward to the next Carrick video

  • the man needs consistency, his performance is half and half, sometimes he is good you want to clap for him, but other times you will hate him.

most of all, he needs to practise on long shots too, Man United attack is way too depending on wingers in the last 2-3 years, we need someone who can blast a rocket, relying on wingers too much is a bad thing. it is time for Carrick to improve.

  • Caricks a brilliant central midfielder (defensive), hes solid, but I feel like he lacks creative spark....than again as a CDM its not really his job that much but who does have that spark?

  • I've always said this Carrick is a fucking excellent midfielder. He just provides that stability you are looking for. plus he actually knows how to defend and intercept balls. top footballer. I don't give a shit if he is not razzle dazzle. I love his style of football. we must NEVER sell him.

  • Let's try Carrick-Cleverley in Midfield. It might work out well

  • @JJayChannel

Yep!! I've been saying this since Cleverley was showing great form early on.. Carrick can actually be a very effective 1/2 touch player and paired with Cleverley, we could see some really slick play from United. Cleverley is young and vibrant, likes linking up and running from midfield, but that's never been Carrick's style really. We need a runner (Fletcher) or dribbler/ball carrier (Anderson) alongside him that can also play neat football, which they don't seem to be able to.

  • and btw, whats the name of the soundtrack???

  • The only problem carrick has is his level of consistency...

when he is on form, the whole united team is on fire...he plays one great game then the next game i dont know what happens!. he loses the vibe...

Still, i am one of the fans who have always supported Carrick...

He may not be a perfect No. 16 (Keano) 's replacement, but he damn sure is a quality player...And is in my view the best in England's squad in his position.

  • michael carrick is one of the best midfielders in the world...

  • @rrushiful you should watch more football

  • all carrick needs is a chance this season.. even though he is not the same like he was but he provides a better hold in midfield.. lets give him a chance ..if he goes shit again KICK HIM OUT !

  • wtf happened to carrick? He used to be an all round midfielder but now plays defensively

  • @MrPollyphonic a sea change, that's common I think

  • @MrPollyphonic fergie's instructions i believe, especially since owen hargreaves got injured.

remember when he scored against qpr, ferguson said he went off position.

  • he is able to tackle efficiently standing on his head, who plays his cards right and knows all tricks of the trade ,which makes him an excellent performer. Moreover, he is quick on the uptake and has a mind like a steel trap.

  • @wladobot Shut up you idiot..

  • i will be very good now

2006/2007 he was a really good midfielder

2007/2008 He was one of the best midfielders of the days

    2008/2009 he was really good

2009/2010 he was half as good as last season but still something

2010/2011 he was really bad but played very well in the champions leauge

2011/2012 he proves that class is not permament!!!

  • @TheWazzaKid

I'd agree with that apart from...

2006/07 - Was part of THE BEST CM pairing in Europe with a re-invented Scholes, who was amazing.

2010/11 - He played as natural holding player as a opposed to a more conventional centre-midfielder and was did a bloody good job practically all season, but didn't contribute as much going forward.

2009/10 was definitely his weakest season but he was still a key part of our best form that season (Jan-Feb) along with Rooney and Nani.

  • carrick suck

  • @TheWazzaKid now it's 26M. give me a fecking break! %)

sort your fachts next time you decide to share your opinion ;)

  • @uncolourbox HE is sooo Crap i'm Glad SAF choose flechter and Anderson and Clevery , i'm really glad that Dumb Idiot is Gone, He may Rot In Hell

  • @TheWazzaKid you're such a bad, bad boy lol

  • @uncolourbox thanks for uploading this, it really grinds my gears when i hear people hating on carrick, his game was missed in the city game

  • @TheWazzaKid

He did slip up v Man City but so did VDS with that dodgy kick that didn't even make it out of the box, Rio's pass right to him while we're under pressure wasn't too smart either. He's so harshly treated by his own fans it's embarrassing. They even booed him when he kept possession while we were 3-1 up against a Chelsea side who were having plenty of chances. That of course is why he was brought on, he follows instruction and understands tactics, unlike Anderson!

  • @logybear86 he is Crap ho like this like the button xD

  • Comment removed

  • @TheWazzaKid

Okay my ignorant little friend. Firstly he cost £18m. He was our best midfielder in CL final 2011, every one of them were shown up by superior players but Carrick at least helped keep them from getting in behind and scoring more often. We were beaten by two long range efforts at the end of the day!

  • he used to be able to pass long and accurately.. what happened to him???

  • Anyone that understands and plays soccer knows midfield is one of the toughest positions on the pitch- they are literally work horses. When surrounded by stars in both attack and fullback positions, Carricks play may seem wanting. He does turn the ball over but his ability to pick up players with the long ball is important. We have giggs and park who produce assists/score goals occasionally. Perhaps that is what is needed from Carrick to get people off his play.

  • Watch the Barcelona Champions League Final and you will see that this guys is way overatted. Infact when watching, just look at Carrick and you will know why Man U could not have won...

  • Somebody plese tell me the name of the song. Thanks :)

  • @redogfcd27 Music for money - Fragile

  • @uncolourbox Thank you very much. :)

  • We really need Carrick back in the side cos we're playing so badly without him. I mean all of these goals & the fast pace just won't do. We need someone who had precisely ZERO goals & ZERO assists last season to get back in there & set up some more City goals in FA Cup Semi Finals.

He's Michael Carrick & he does what he wants! (which is the 'shit himself shuffle' when anyone comes near cos he's a fucking coward)

  • @chrispowellchelt alas, Carrick won't hear you here. find another way to express him your gratitude for years of unassuming service and your general lack of understanding of the game as well. afraid he wouldn't listen to, though. goals and assists from the holding midfielder my arse. try harder

  • @uncolourbox

Haha spot on. Measuring a defensive-midfielder's contribution by goals and assists is perhaps the most retarded logic I have ever heard froma football fan. You would think by now that fans who claim to actually watch Utd games would notice he doesn't play the same role as he did during 2006-08. Most fans are just casual fans, football is just entertainment to them, they don't think. They just notice the obvious and miss the subtle side of the game. Chris is defintely one of those.

  • @logybear86 @logybear86 exactly. Carrick's style is not flashy, not running around, not tackling alot, breaking legs and scaring the shit out of people, hence this is why some fans never notice what he does on the pitch exept for some blatant mistakes, of course. Carrick makes mistakes, everybody does, but it's fair to say he did very few and this is one of the reasons he's a Utd player. everybody who questions his position at Utd questions Ferguson's logic which is a conceit to say the least :)

  • @chrispowellchelt on a side note: why d'you people keep coming here and writing all these ill-conceived rants I will ever fail to understand. gotta say you're a bit too concerned on his subject for a mere critics so dare I infer it is a certain personal issue you have with this player? ;) give it a rest then, you're not going to convince anyone on that basis

  • @chrispowellchelt You don't know anything about football. He isn't in the team to score goals or set them up, he keeps the ball moving and gives it to the players that are going to do more with the ball.

  • @chrispowellchelt wanker is your job to troll all of carricks videos to bitch and complain useless twat!

  • [p

  • worst player we ever signed, if he got his game united would drop to level of sunderland or liverpool. we should sell him...but then again nobody would probably pay a cent to get him.

  • @UnclePiggy612 WUM, eh? feck off then :)

  • @uncolourbox he would be ok playin for womens football cus hes just too slow, too weak and not skillful enough. :(

  • excelent holding midfielder

  • One day .. they would say .. play as simple as Michael Carrick !!

  • Carrick is my favourite player beside Scholes. I do not want to see the day he retires:((. Thank you for your very nice video!

  • This is a great video. It shows how little things like this are actually important. Props to you my friend.

  • Michael Carrick is a good player in his own right no doubt.

It's just disappointing to know that he was supposed to be the replacement for Roy Keane, and to know that he doesn't even have half the influence Roy had when he was on the pitch. Carrick's fairly clumsy in big games, and we can't really afford that.

  • And he makes plenty of tackles during games, he just doesn't go in hard because believe it or not he only wants to take the ball, stay on his feet and then distribute it to others. People just love a smashing tackle though, don't they? As if anything other than getting the ball back matters!

I don't agree that he will play more of a centre-mid role next season now that the Ginger Prince has retired. Fergie knows he has found his best position, there's very little chance he'll change it back.

  • Nice flop at 2:49. No skill.

  • @jjrf14 you just don't get football do you :)

  • Yeah good thing he hasn't been relevant for the past 4 years. So old and washed up. Wasn't even a good player in his prime.

  • Michael CantKick

  • This video just gave me new hope in Carrick ahead of next season. I have been bothered that he is so far passed his best, failing to remember that this DM position SAF ha put him in is new to him&though his form has dipped a lot, maybe next season will see improvements cause he will probably take up a more central midfield role to replace Scholes. If only Fletcher could get fit now&I think we might have a working solution.

  • This video is brilliant - uses a whole 3 games worth & they happen to be only 3 games where Michael Carrick wasn't a complete mongoloid all of the last 2 seasons. Tapping the ball 3 yards to a teammate definitely proves he is amazing.

The whole Carrick thing is like the Emperor's New Clothes, everyone can see he's useless but cos some pundits say he's good everyone else seems to go 'oh i must be wrong cos i thought they'd let particularly bad at football monkey on the pitch from what i saw!'

  • @chrispowellchelt ah haters gonna hate, right. I think it would be useless to count there other of his proper games of latter season cause you people are adamant in your idiosyncrasy for Carrick. And I always thought the whole "the Emperor's New Clothes" argument is somewhat useless in any discussion cause really, it could only indicates none other than inferiority complex of a person who uses it

  • @chrispowellchelt So how did we win the title with him in the team most of the time? Just because he isn't scoring goals you probably think he is shit. He keeps the ball moving and gives it to the players that make things happen.

  • @chrispowellchelt So how did we win the title with him in the team most of the time? Just because he isn't scoring goals you probably think he is shit. He keeps the ball moving and gives it to the players that make things happen.

Some of you people don't know anything about football

  • Brilliant video, really annoys me that the people who say Carrick is shit as he doesn't score goals. That's a load of crap because he was in the team most of the time that won us the league! He keeps the ball moving and it is a pleasure to watch him do all the simple passing and look so relaxed!

  • He is like the Busquets for United.

  • @LionelxMessix Good comparison!

  • @LionelxMessix yep, bar being very talented actor ;)

Busquets is a fine player though, big pleasure to watch, so intelligent

  • Everyone goes a bit crazy when Carrick makes a mistake but that's only because of the area he operates in. It's far more noticable and can lead to goals for opposition. In reality, he makes less mistakes than everyone bar VDS, Vidic, Ferdinand and Berbatov who all play simple games too. The further back you go, the more important it is for players to keep it simple. People say he doesn't tackle enough but he makes so many interceptions, which show he actually "reads the game".. Intelligence.

  • Good stuff posting this video, Could've used some highlights from the Rangers away performance too, was very good, more of a midfield maestro performance but still, his ball retention was class. 90% of Man Utd fans seem to think he's the biggest problem for our midfield. This is one of the times where the other 10% are right. Put Modric beside him and we have a top 2-man midfield with good clean footballers..

  • He can pass, tackle, head, Michael Carrick is a Red,

Lampard, Gerrard, Fabregas, you're not fit to wipe his arse!

  • CANT BELIVE you missed out the sexy pass to Giggs for Rooney's goal at the Bridge!! The cross-field ball, the vision and execution was perfection

  • @PrideOfMancunia yep i remember this well. still, this video isn't about his passing, it's about defensive part of his game

  • he could be the frank lampard of manu. but he's already 29 and time is running out

  • @naqqib86 You mean Lampard could be the Carrick of Chelsea, too bad he is 32. If Carrick had an -inho at the end of his name people would heaping praise on him.

  • Brilliant video, nice one mate.

  • seriously love his game. its sad how people are seeing names on goals/assists being good players, where they forgotten the basic of keeping the balls. every time he made mistakes, it was unfairly magnified. but when man utd wins, no one ever thought about him despite he put in man of the match displays. records speak for itself how important carrick has been for man utd, 5 years since joining man utd, 4 EPL titles, after he left, martin jol sacked coz spurs couldnt adjust without him.

  • @l2p10 Not at all unfairly magnified. His mistakes have cost United their place in the FA cup final, and prevented them from progressing against Bayern last season.

  • @shiftlocknshout I disagree - 2 other people made crucial mistakes against Bayern in that tie - Neville and Evra (1st leg). As for the FA Cup, he made a mistake but so did Berba and Rooney (for getting himself banned) - and let's not forget that that was a team which wasn't too familiar with one another (plus some of them were tired from so many fixtures)

  • the crowd sound like their singing with the music :DD

  • brilliant vid!

  • Comment removed

  • what music is this?

  • يا سلام عليك والله ابدعت هالموسم (؛

  • thank you everyone for such kind responses. really pleased to see some people appreciate Carrick as much as I do :)

  • this video just put to shame EVERY single claim that he's "not a ball winning midfielder". And the fact is he's that and so much more.

Also, how much must Drogba and Malouda hate him, dispossessed them so consistently. Fantastic and so underrated

  • Michael Carrick once passed Gandalf

  • that's what I m talking about michael carrick!! The best interceptor!

  • Brilliant vid, great player

  • A fantastic video, this is going on my MUFC blog

  • I'm glad you see what I see when I watch United play. I hate it when people constantly put him down for being 'negative'. He does so many important things in games and they all go unnoticed, yet the one mistake and everyone pounces on him for it.

  • @Cookie179 Too right. He literally works his ass off in midfield, and here's he's practically EVERYWHERE! And people still say he does absolutely nothing in games. Anyway am glad Sir Alex sees him for what he really is, and lets him play :)

Carrick's amazing and deserves so much credit.
