  • A struggle

  • not bad... but this song just did not fit his voice very well.

  • i liked this, even though no one can replace Betty Buckley

  • perfect example of a kid who sings for the only purpose of impressing girls and does not quite know how to understand and interpret a song and in consequence is unable to feel into the song ... and vice versa

  • the song itself is suposed to be of hurt but and pain also of hope..... i didnt felt that..... btw i havent felt anything!! and i love this song!! though i think the version of think of me by david A. was the worst thing i've ever heard!!!

  • do you guys not remember Archuleta's "POP"-y version of Think of Me? Yea. This was not as "pop"-y as that.

  • wow...he bombed. has he even heard the original?

  • too scary!!!!!!!

  • He has a great voice, but I would NOT buy this record...

  • arg. too "pop" -y. Elaine Page for the win!

  • he got the lyrics wrong in one part... he said, "the cold, still, smell of morning," when it's "the stale, cold smell of morning." i didn't really think that the song suited him, as he made it too pop-y, although he does have talent. he does portray the sadness well, though.

  • I can't feel the song at all.. hm.. prefer susan boyle la.. :P

  • OMG so so sad

  • why does american idol have to ruin andrew lloyd webber, all these singers did was make them more pop.

  • not everyone changed the song that they selected.

  • @Yossarianct22 because andrew lloyd webber needed exposure to younger crowds im glad he did it stop fucking about this did more good than bad stop being such a pussy

  • @Yossarianct22 Well, if you really want to think of it that way Sara Brighman is a soprano but she melds BOTH opera AND pop it's called popera. And besides, most of Andrew Lloyd Weber's musicals can take their songs as individual hits and have successfully played them to radio. These singers just gave it their own flair. No two singers can sing exactly alike and need to create their own identity while honoring the original artist.

  • @Yossarianct22 Not like Susan Boyle did any better.....

  • @Yossarianct22 uhmm thats because there not broadway or musical people and for people who dont sing broadway they were fantastic

  • i thought he did a good job

  • I love this song. He ruined it totally. His voice sounds nice but he dumbed it down to an amateur level of singing.

  • Although he is very talented, this was definitely not the song for him.

  • I think he did it very good. He has a sort of aching tint to his voice, a sweet desperation, which is definitely needed to pull off that song. I think his performance was underrated completely.

  • This song reminds me so much of new moon. If it wasnt already in Cats it would be perfect!

  • haha yeesh :]

  • Belting a song doesn't make it good - he sang it with a lovely understated touch.

  • Andrew must hv cried with grief after hearing this. T_T.

  • he ruined this song with his damn dreds

  • He never ruined it.

You ruined your life by saying that ^^

    weee~

  • this song ate him up

  • I think I died a little on the inside. that was awful. he sounded unconfortable with song. he was breathy and it wasn't very pleasing to hear, glad he got eliminated. he has no range or power.

  • I TOTALLY agree with you.

  • His voice is too weak for this song. He has talent, but not ALW caliber talent. Sad. Perhaps a different song he may have been able to pull off.

  • i heart him he rocks

  • Oh no...this is such a great song!! Jason sounded uncomfortable singing in the lower key in the first part of this song...yet he sounded decent in the second/higher key portion of this song. So that says he has no range..but then again this is American Idol, they fabricate pop stars, not vocalists.

  • I screamed when I heard he was going to sing this song. This is such a beautiful song, and he destroyed it.

  • I totally agree with you

  • his voice isnt strong enough to carry this song. he doesnt sound horrible, though.

  • Not the best version. He should have chosen another song to sing.

  • The studio version of this song is amazing and I don't even like this song, but when Jason sings it it is very moving. This live version is lacking. I voted for him to the end because he is unique. All the others sound like everyone that came before them. Jason was a breath of fresh air. Brooke was unique as well but Jason was adorable.

  • brooke is unique alright, a prodigy, jason is not

  • eh

he was good for like the first 4

i dont think there is anything special about him

he shouldve been voted off b4 the tour

  • At the beginning of this show, I knew SOMEONE was gonna sing Memory.

(It seems you can't hide from this song)

I should've expected it to have been Jason, who I think was the embarassment of American Idol 7.

  • I usually avoid AI like the plague and I DETEST musicals yet somehow this kid made me like this song. This was underrated. The studio version is stunning. VERY, very good.

  • i used to like him, before he went and ruined my favorite song from that musical. that is a very touching and beautiful song and i will defend it fiercely. he sux and he should have left that very night. >=(

  • I agree.

He didn't even get the first line right. >:(

  • This song is totaaly wrong for him.

  • is that from cats?

  • Yes, it is. But it is sung very differently (obviously) than the showtune version. Look up the best performer ever under the search words "Memory Buckley." That is the woman who sang it originally on Broadway. (Elaine Paige did it in London even a little earlier and was also excellent.)

  • Interesting! It was okay. First time hearing a guy sing this song.

  • the waving hands of the crowd

    are just hysterical.

  • I could kind of see Brooke singing this, maybe Carly, but not Jason. This is a powerful song and you need a powerful voice, he just doesn't have that. My friend Marissa does this beautifully.

  • omg! his breathing is so annoying! and he is too whiny. i'm glad he's off the show!

  • i loved this i thought they were wrong and AI is deff rigged the only one that deserves to be in the top three is David Cook, Arch sux he sounds like ever Disney guy and they are making him cause thats what ok now but he will not make it and Syesha sounds like every other R&B singer she's not whitney houston and needs to go away David Cook is amazing tho his Andrew Lloyd Webber was amazing an Jason getting voted off was bull he is deff gonna make it cuz this was when daughtry was voted off too

  • I think David Cook, Syesha, and Carly should have been in the top three.David Cook is defiantly the best. Carly iis powerful, and Syesha is wondeful but better for brodway. I thought Jason was kind of fooling around, but i completly agree with you for Archie!

  • you are deaf to say arch sounds like a disney guy. He's so much better than that.

  • I love his version of this song. I have never really liked this song until he sang it. I guess different strokes for different folks.

  • try listening to the real version, and you'll get what we're saying.

  • ive heard the original. But What many people dont get is that he "jasonized" this song. Yeah ok, the original was done by a powerhouse vocalist, i get that, but thats not jasons style. The point of these themes is to take songs that may very well be out of ur musical genre & turn it into a sound that suits ur style. Another example was what he did on mariah week with "i dont wanna cry" Did they expect contestants to top mariahs voice? No, very few can but he made the song suit him & it was great

  • me too

  • I really like Jason's version of this song. I think it is because I have never heard the original. But he did a really good job, I like it more and more every time I hear it.

  • in general i am not a fan of Jason Castro but i think this song actually suited him well

  • his voice is like an angel, he is the most beautiful man i have ever seen... amazing jason

  • everyone's like oh my goodness this performance is so bad...but ya know..as i listen to it again...i think it rocks. :) yay jason

  • I can't believe he is still on the show...I do not want to be mean, but......is his middle name Sanjia?

  • Jason Castro realy sucked on this one. This song is realy sung by a girl. And the song is set for a girls voice.

  • having a big voice & strong vocals does not necessary = a good singer. i think jason comes across as very sincere and his performances are always very heart-warming.the judges may say "show us something new!" but i say great for you jason, for choosing songs which you truly like, not songs which might please the judges/garner more votes

  • i L0VE JASON CASTR0! my heart is dreadL0CKED to jason.<3333

    HES G0iN FAR! :]

  • he really needs our votes this week, no matter how bad or good he does, he deserves a second chance, bcuz this isnt the Jason we love!

    PLA VOTE4JASON!

  • I never heard this great song sand in such an intimate tender way. We loved it 7we were both surprised. This was very very nice.

  • How come he's not at the bottom 2??? When he sings his voice was full of air. When he sings all I can hear is his breathing. That what makes his voice unclear. I don't like this. Really. I don't want to put any more harsh words, but you know what I mean.. I don't like him. He should go. Carly was better than him. A hundred times better.

  • hes not usually so breathy and anyone who pays close attention to his previous performances would know that. He had pneumonia during this performance, that affects your breathing, imagine trying to perform under that circumstance. He still put alot of emotion into it and thats the important thing, its not just about having big vocals like carly, hes truly genuine and touches peoples hearts with the way he performs.

  • really? is he well this week?

  • yeah i think hes pretty much recovered, but still not 100 percent. It also doesnt help that they have really hectic schedules and he probably isnt able to take great care of himself.

  • It's not a showtune version, which is why people don't like it. Thats why it's not my favorite. But becuase I had never heard the orignal, i kind of like it.

  • It's horrible in a way... but still I love his performance!

  • ... I agree with Maggo... boring.. I can't even understand what he's saying

  • Are you all kidding. He did great. I have never liked this song until he sang it.

  • he sings this song with such sadness it makes me cry a bit which is a good thing

  • he's really bad

  • umm, boring...

  • Terrible version.

I wish American Idol hadn't had done any showtunes.

He didn't even hit the note that everyone waits for. Even if you hate Cats, everyone loves how powerful that note is near the end of the song.

    This was just horrible.

  • Terrible.

  • oh wow. i was just like "WOW" when i heard HIM singing this song. love it!!

  • Yep, I agree with you, rukiakagome, I loved hearing Jason sing this. There are alot of us who DID like this!

  • Jason and Brooke are airheads. They both need to go home. Voting on who you think is cute is not what the show is about.

They show limit the votes to 1 per phone number and web ip. Someone said they voted 80 times for Jason. That is ridiculous. Get a life. Your not going to get a date with him. After you get older you wont even love him anymore.

  • i so agree. i mean jason is a cutie.. but i do not want him to win becasue of his looks. and like everyone in my school only loves david archuleta beacause he's young and adorable.. so i really think david COOK should win.

    go home brrok and jason.

    no offence though. sorry.

    <3 Sarah

  • i am so in luv w/ this guy but i want cook to win. i think syesha and brooke shud be the next to to go tho because they both hav had their good weeks, but i dont really no who they are.

  • I dunno. He just doesn't seem Grizabella enough to sing this song. Also, he's male, which doesn't help.

  • Jason should take a walk into the sunset with his little Ukulele. Time to go pretty boy with dreadlocks. Carly goes and you stay? Syesha bottom two and you stay? Get real. Talent, not popularity people.

  • yeah he def. should have gotten high before this performance.

i don't care what he smoked in his past, i don't think hes a good singer. sorry:)

  • I love this song. I am not really feeling it with his performance.

  • Cats is deffinetly not the best musical and not some ALW's best work, but "memory" is the better song out of that entire show. I agree with jvrockstar, very clique. There's always one person who tries to be sentimental and sing this song, but obviously they fail misserably at it and dredlock boy here is the perfect example. Yuck

  • Did Jason swallow a hairball?

  • Bad musical.... good song..... bad performance.

  • this song is so cliche.

Of Course someone would pick this song by Webber.

  • Jason Castro has true "star quality" along the lines of David Cassidy or John Travolta (in my day these were super stars) Not necessarily the greatest vocalists but charismatic and interesting to watch and listen to.

  • wow...he fucked that song up

  • He might have sung it better if he had smoked pot right before--the pot he is no doubt addicted to.

  • quit making judgements on him when u dont even know him. Hes a devout christian, a member of his church and does many projects for people who are less fortunate. He seems like a good kid. Maybe he has done pot before and maybe he hasnt, the point is u shouldnt be judging him. You sound like the people who assume hes dumb just by the way he talks. Didnt anyone ever tell u not to judge a book by its cover.

  • It looks like the first 10 rows are all teenage females. Can you say staged? Cherry picked?

Season ticket holders I guess. The families get seats in the back. Thats not right.

  • They're called screamers. They're paid by the show to come in and scream.

  • but cats still is a bad musical

  • Are you kidding me? Cats is the best musical in the world! That's the only reason I watched this dumb video! The song was from cats! Otherwise, I wouldn't have. I need to go listen to some good music.

  • better then teh jesus christ one

  • he killed this song! Dude! I saw this musical when I was five and it was my favorite song! He killed it! Besides, a girl sings it! UGH!

  • You sound like a really nice person! Sounds like you aren't a fan of Jason, so why are you listening to him sing again, just to bash?

  • anybody know who got voted off on Andrew lloyd Webber week? i missed the result show

  • Carley. The bottom two were syesha and carley. America is so stupid. -.- Brooke should have gotten voted off a long time ago.

  • carly smithson

  • I think Carly but I can definately get your satire...

  • He should have done something from Joseph or JCSS, "Memory" is not very believable coming from someone young! He sang it well but it's just not right.

  • I thought it was very believable. Jason Castro knows a lot about "smokey days". I really like the wistful sad version he made it into. It shouldn't be a "power ballad".

  • "smoky days" I can buy and the wistful sad does work - but "I can smile at the old days, I was beautiful then" - it caught me right away. Really, you're too old and run down to be beautiful anymore? SO NOT! "the time I knew what happiness was" - the song just lost the believability too quickly.

  • AI is a popularity contest. Americans vote for whomever wins them over. If David Cook goes home before Jason, that just means, Jason has won over more people. In other words, fans "idolize him". It is really just that simple. Everyone in this competition got here with different degrees of talent. Some have professional training, other do not. I happen to favor Jason. David Cook is my second favorite. There is alot of needless hating going on. The judges are the ones that need to go!

  • One of the most original Idol styles of all time.

I really enjoy listening to him sing.

Can't wait to hear the next one he sings!

  • I actually like this version better than the original version for some reason.

  • CLAPS CLAPS CLAPS CLAPS! I LOVE HIM!

  • To ustgt: I am in my mid-40's and I voted for Jason for nearly an hour straight last night. His audience is huge, and I can say for sure that they are not just 13 year old girls . . . nor are the people who voted for him "stupid". The last IQ test I took said I was in the range of Bill Gates. He has a fan base that doesn't want to see him go is all. He is awesome! I am surprised that Brooke is still in while Carly got voted off, but Jason was definitely not the one who should have gone.

  • I so agree. and i also stayed up for over an hour last night voting non stop because i didnt want him to go home :p

  • thanks for voting and helping to keep him on. Can't wait for his first CD!

  • Can he not sing without having to take a breath after every line?

  • did not even come close to doing this great song justice.

  • haw haw!!

  • not his fault to be on the final six for him to have had sing this song, is it?

    thus, im proud of him.

  • not his fault to be on the final six for him to have had sing this song, is it?

and definitely not his fault if the people keep on voting for him...

for that, im proud of him.

and you guys just have to deal with it.

  • I totally 100% agree with you. He was definately the worst and Brooke should have been standing next to him in the bottom two. She's not bad but Sayesha and Carly are definately much better. The only thing worse that could have happened is David Cook going home instead of Jason. I would never watch again.

  • agree with ugst, that is

  • he sounds like enrique iglesias...lol

  • wow i've been a fan of this musical for like seven years...i'm depressed how badly he did.

  • he's sighing through the song! >:( too breathy, not good.

  • i like the dreads..who cares about his voice?

  • hey,

    fuck you V

he is a really good singer.

    :]

&&&& IM GONNA MARRY HIM ONE DAY!<3

  • Haha everybody thinks he's all that. He's nothing but a piece of shit in the real world. Just because he's on American Idol doesn't mean he's good, It's been a long time since American Idol turned into a Beauty competition and not a Talent competition. He doesn't hold half the strength and half the talent thats needed to sing such a song. I think American Idol should be nicknamed as the t.v. show that holds true musical crap.

  • Thank you. Jason Castro is true musical Crap with a capital C. He looks like a black wannabe who smokes weed.

  • agreed. nice voice, but he does seem to have the wrong idea about Memory or something, it doesn't sound like 'Memory'.

  • Sounded more like a dying cat than a singing cat!!

  • I agree. Yay. someone with some common sense

  • He has a good voice but it doesn't sound like Memory to me. I mean it's the wrong sound for Memory...like he has the wrong idea about it or something. I don't know. But he sings nicely anyway. :)

  • meHEMRy

    all HAlone Hin the moHoonlight

no offense jason, i love u to death, but this is NOT the right song for you

  • Gag me.

  • I agree!

  • He should change his name to Fidel, and this song blows because it's from the most homosexual play ever, "Cats" which was as fruity as Elton John.

  • Hey. We just did cats at my school and it kicked so much ass. Cats is definitely one of my favorite musicals ever!

  • I though he was great in the upper register, and no so great in the lower register. However, I do believe he is unique and has made some other good music choices.

  • looks like he is about to sing at the copacabana.

sack the stylist. also not best choice of song. he cant cope with the range.

  • You should get that checked.

and while your at it check your attitude.

  • Okay.

I love Jason. I think he's a fantastic performer, and he's had some really great moments.

I do not care for this song. I am a musical theatre person, but I find this song very cliche, and overdone. Not a fan.

This wasn't bad, but not his best either.

Oh, and the people in front swaying didn't help. Haha.

  • What would you rather him sing? I think he sang it pretty well, and it had feeling behind it. You can feel it.

  • No, he did sing it well, and he did put good emotion behind it, don't get me wrong, it's just that as soon as I heard it was Andrew Lloyd Webber week I went "Oh gosh, who's going to do Memory?" I was just a little disappointed with the song choice.

  • I think Jason has the most melodious beautiful voice I have ever heard so what he messed up one week and yes he will probbly go soon or tonight but i will allwase listen to his song !

  • Okay, I think he's a really nice guy. I don't think that musical theatre is his genre. He needs to work on his control when he goes into his higher register, but apart from that, his VOICE wasn't what I had a problem with. I really wish he had done this song with more intensity. This is a very gripping and emotional song, and the almost-stoic mood in which he sang it did not fit the lyrics. He sang it a bit to lullaby-ish.

    But very good effort.

  • This wasn't his thing.. even he said it wasn't..

He shouldn't be judged on one bad night.

he did amazing with "over the rainbow", "hallelujah".. and basically everything else he did..

    he is awesome..

so what if he isn't into musicals?.. its not like this is a broadway competition..

  • It is time to go Jason no one wants you!!! :p

  • THIS SUCKS! I really don't think he knew what he was doing when he picked this song...a glamourpuss sings thin in the musical Cats. It is meant for a woman who has had a rough life, lost her beauty, and is trying to find herself. This is a musical theater song...find the proper energy and stop being so breathy!! he will be voted off soon.

  • In other terms when he was supposed to belt it with energy he didn't. Is that what you meant? Cause thats I think he messed up on.

Also what the hell is it with that generic hand wave the audience dose every song?

  • maybe not his best, but i think his voice is beautiful. i love his style, it's unique. i'm just not crazy about the hair, haha. :)

  • OMG! He sucked this week. Very bad singing of memories. His voice is harsh and flat on a lot of notes.

  • He has a sweet voice and he is my personal favorite on Idol. There is something about this guy's voice and stage presence that I think is refreshing and romantic. Most guys can't compete with the romance that this guy portrays. Jealousy will get you nowhere!

  • Eww, I didn't like him. I liked the Think of Me guy a lot better. It wasn't BAD but it wasn't really... good either. :/

  • Shitty. He was flat whenever he tried to reach those higher notes. He is capable of singing within three key signatures in the same range and that's it. He mumbled the whole time. Whatever. I love him because he's so fucking cute, but Jesus that was bad.

Not like Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the best songs, in fact he's a tremendous insult to classical music, but that was far beyond the kind of horrible I expected to hear last night.

  • Dude, this is not a rock song!

  • this jason (tiny tim) guy has just sung his last song.......sorry all you 12 yr. olds.

  • Um, the hair needs to go. He looks like a woman. And his voice is too breathy. I'm not a fan of this guy. He needs to go.

  • i thought it was great

  • Too bad he has absolutely no idea what he is singing about. I wish people would realize you cannot just sing Andrew Lloyd Webber songs. You must SING them, you must have the story, the emotion, to make them work. Bad.

  • Not so many people understand what you have written, what a pity ! Rock and Pop dominate this era already. Shame !

  • Exactly! I have no problem with people singing pop and rock music, but for God's sake, listen to the lyrics (I think one of the main problems is so few people write lyrics for themselves. If you will sing someone else's songs, at least try to understand the lyrics. That is why so many Beatles' covers fail miserably. Listen to the Across the Universe soundtrack though. It's good.)

  • I like him, but this wasn't very good. Kind of a winy voice and dragged a bit. Too big of a song for him.

  • It's actually memory, not memories.

  • I thought the judges were way off base regarding this performance. Amazing!

  • I love it! I love his performances! Not his best, but still amazing! From his heart!

  • that brookiechick or this jamaican dude is leaving tomorrow

  • jamaican? haha i dont think hes jamaican

lol, and unfortunately neither of them were eliminated or i should say it's unfortunate brooke wasnt kicked out! so not fair :(

  • he is AMAZING!!!

  • It's Memory. Not Memories.

  • LOVE IT! He performed this beautifully!
