Photoshop for Beginners - Layers

When i make a new layer, my old layer dissapears till i delete it. How can i get both layers showing on 2 different tabs or something.

@ZenonCraft both layers are there, but in order for the other to come through then you need to erase the top layer so you can let the bottom layer show! make sense? :)

@TheAnnoyingblob that's where all the panels can be accessed…… =\ if it doesn't work there…. then the only other method that comes to mind is to try loading one of the preset layouts, or reinstall….

How do you copy the image??

@roshpiansay copy the image as in duplicate? select the layer>right click>duplicate layer

or, drag layer to the new layer button and PS will do it auto for you.

ok I know this, I learned this one in the most primitive way :p

but what about the lights

it gets problematic when one image is darker and the other brighter or even a different color of light.

If theyre too contrast to each-other, most tool just ruin it

whats the most recomended tool for this problem?

@DritonGusia using a overlay/soft light layer and a white brush. (adjust size accordingly)

Also the burn/dodge tool can be quite useful in this kind of situation.

how do you actually insert the picture into the new york picture ?

@iLikeMakinVideos go to File>Place>select image and then it will place in as a smart object; if you want to edit that object inside the project you are working on, just right click on the SO layer and rasterize it.

been busy with finals.

Go to 'View' and in there should be a whole list of panes. if your using CS3 in the top right corner there is a drop down menu that can help bring back a standard layout with layers & etc.

I am using Photoshop CS on Windows. I am having problems resizing the photo on the layer. I have copied onto background. When I click on the move tool, it doesn't give me the ability to stretch the corners. What do I need to do to resize the pic? I want to make it smaller. This video was very helpful!

Ctrl T on the specific layer your working on. this will turn on the free transform tool.

remember when you are free transforming something you can't add any layers. just click enter to apply the transformation and then the layers button should become active again.
