  • If you don't have beans can you just use the fire extinguisher as a pie weight? It wouldn't be a unitasker then! (just kidding of course)

  • I made this last night for Thanksgiving and it turned out excellent! Be sure to add the extra boil after the lemon is added!!!

  • @NinjaTab i wouldnt want to boil anything after adding the citrus in it. just simmer. boiling denatures the citric acid turning it somewhat bitter. i made this a lot of times only i didnt do the filling as shown in the video. i used AB's lemon custard recipe instread. tastes great but a little too overpowering and sour, which is how i like it.

  • Yes but a fire extinguisher is not powerful enough to freeze any metal worth braking.  Aluminum foil would be the best.

  • The chemicals don't freeze at all. Chemical extinguishers smother flames. CO2 ones produce ice as a by-product of use at the nozzle and would hardly be used in a kitchen. The only metal that would freeze at that point would be the foil on your juice box.

  • Alton I'm so upset I've printed out the recipe and have followed the recipe to the letter and I'm not getting it right my filling is loose.

  • The recipe on the Food Network site is missing a step. Follow what he says in the show and it will work.

  • After you add the lemon juice, zest, and butter, bring it to a boil again for at least a minute.

  • Meringue pie is delicious, but IT IS NOT CREAM PIE. Custard base without topping = custard pie; custard base with meringue topping = meringue pie (i.e., lemon meringue, not lemon cream, pie); custard base with whipped cream topping = cream pie (i.e., proper coconut cream pie).
