this guy never plays a bum note in that solo - ever. i've heard him loads of times from the 80's onwards. always spot on. mind you, a wrong note would sound bloody awful in this - unlike a lot of bands I could think of. It's a great pop tune. One for the books!!!
Slick band, pros...Difford made a good decision in putting Tillbrook out front, blond haired pretty boy...What makes this band is the unique combination of Diffords baritone and Tillbrook's tenor voice...Difford also a top notch lyricist, and probably wrote quite a bit of the music, too...Tillbrook top notch guitarist, creative solo on this...Nobody writing songs like this anymore, record business a bunch of zombie artists with no knowledge of music history, run by NWO type yuppie execs.
the sound is incredible-mixing rock with synthesized pop of the 80s. very innovative and original back then when people still believed in the power of music.
What a great song!!! Just re-discovering Squeeze here, awesome band. And Glenn Tilbrook is just so darn cute in this video. And his voice.....wow! Good stuff.
Man...talk about underated guitar players! I saw Glenn live in NYC a few years ago. Amazing!
Met the whole band in the early 80's when Singles was released. They flew over on the concorde and landed at JFK. They gave away really cool T-shirts too, wish I still had it. I remember chis saying.."ok, let's mingle" as he greeted the crowd.
Keep in touch let me know how you go on and I will find other sites for you also there is a fantastic DVD out called "one for the road" following Glenn Tilbrooks solo tour of the U.S. a couple of years ago it will give you a taste of what you can expect I thoroughly recommend it.
Saw Squeeze at the Manchester Apollo in 1980 and again in 2007. They were just as good as they ever were and it was so good to see them 'friends' again. Wish they would record more and tour again.
Read all the comments on here, or on any other Squeeze posting, and I think the band are even more appreciated now than they were in the 80s. I've seen them about 20 times since '76 but the best concert they did, the one with the biggest, noisiest, most partisan and appreciative audience was the one at Hammersmith in December. History will surely remember Squeeze as one of the best English bands in history.
I have a feeling when the U.S. tour is over and Difford and Tilbrook have completed there solo engagements I think there may just be another U.K. tour especially as there is a new album out next Monday.Try and get to see Glenn Tilbrook and the Fluffers on their U.K. tour later this year well worth it.
Guess what? I live in Ohio and i haven't been following Squeeze tours or anything, but i might just check them out now. I use to listen to them in the 80s in my childhood, and some of these songs i still like. Gosh, you've seen them so many times. Their shows seem darn good.
They are currently in the U.S. if they are near you I strongly recommend you go see them if you can get a ticket they are extremely popular in the States if not go and see Glenn Tilbrook next time he's touring the states he is usually tours there once a year.
It looks like they hate, or at least dislike each other at first as they are both focussed on singing (or miming) at the microphone without any eye-contact. Towards the end of the track, if you watch the less close-up shots of them, what seem like genuine smiles are exchanged between them on more than one occasion.
Whether they just found the whole miming thing amusing at the time, or were good friends is something I don't know.
That track is incredibly good, I would say it is even better than the other more well-known Squeeze tracks I'd heard many times before. I caught this today on Dave (formally UKTV G2 which I can see is where this video was sourced).
I don't know which one Glenn is but the guy in the black shirt is absolutely gorgeous (or was 27 years ago when this was recorded ;) and the other guy is quite nice too.
I will say it sounds much better as an MP3 download, but it is good to see them performing.
I assume it is you who also uploaded it onto the ed2k network where it is being shared at a much higher video (if not audio) quality, I have now managed to download it and they rock. Given that they were miming in the TOTP performance, I'll combine it with a high-quality MP3 download from the "Essential Squeeze" album to truly appreciate Glenn's vocal and visual talents at their best.

i love this song but cant listen to it because i heard to keep his figure and health the lead singer drunk his own piss twice a day. fucking dirty protester. they should set an example to ethnic minoritys?
i'd rather enjoy his musical talent with no regard to his personal life, as with most rock stars. They are all kooky, Mick,Paul,John, Keith, hendrix halen, sting, etc. etc.
Summer of 80! :)

Glenn had it all...great voice, fantastic guitarist, dreamy looks. Why he wasn't as big as Elvis is beyond me.
Saw them in St. Louis in 82. Saw them in Nashville in Sep. and they still have it. See them if you get a chance.
