The Baptist church is christianity and christianity is not a religon its a doctrine or a very strong beleif and by the way i think that the people who were talking had no idea what they were talking about!
Thank god, people are getting rid of those primitive ideologies (but as the study shows, they're not becoming atheists.) The Abrahamic religions especially have been responsible for more, death, destruction & misery throughout the ages than any other force. Good riddance to all of them.
@cincinatus90 Heart disease is neither an ideology nor a religion & although it has caused a lot of death & misery, I've seen no evidence of destruction. Communism has caused a lot of death, destruction & misery in the short time it's been around but these 3 religions have been responsible for a lot more & have been at it for a lot longer.
I was not speaking of ideology or religion. I was responing to your comment that said in part: " responsible for more, death, destruction & misery throughout the ages than any other force", And certainly disease and corrupt governments IE communism are a force in and of themselves.
@cincinatus90 But the vid was about religion. My comment & the subject of the paragraph was about relligion/ideology, not disease (see 1st sentence).. Before there was Communism, Fascism & all the other political ideologies, there was religion. Religion WAS & still is to some extent, a political ideology. Why would you think I was talking about "disease"? Apparently no one else had that problem.
Your comment and the subject of it was how much death, misery and destruction something created. Your not happy that i pointed out that some other things besides religion have caused these things on a massive scale. What i said was true and in context, and it didnt disagree that religion has done horrible things. I know you dont like God or at least the "Abrahamic Gods", i get it.
@cincinatus90 Are you trolling, or what? The "subject" is religion, not Communism or heart disease. You're taking a sentence out of context. The subject of the paragraph is stated in the first sentence. Communism & Fascism didn't rear their ugly heads until late 19th century; they'd have to do a lot more "death, misery & destruction" to catch up to religion. Disease isn't even in the same ballpark; that's just tangential thinking.
@mmedefarge The subject is, for the third time, death, destruction and misery created by a force. A subject you brought up yourself. If you dont want to talk about it then dont, i was simply responding to your comment on the subject (see above) you brought up.
@123footballer Balderdash, there's a moving away from all of it. Islamic countries have a higher birthrate than western countries & they are usually coerced into being Muslim by their gov'ts. That's not true conversion that's just doing whatever it takes to stay alive. My parents lived in Franco's Spain where you were coerced into being a Christian or face a firing squad (esp. if you didn't have a Baptismal certificate) You can bet that they had all their Catholic papers (bapt., marriage etc)
@123footballers That depends where you are. In the U.S. the fastest growing religion is Catholicism due to the huge influx of people from Hispanic countries. Hindus outnumber Muslims in the U.S. & both are mostly due to immigrants. The fastest growing group, growing faster than all religions here, are people professing adherence to no religion (not atheists mind you, just turned off by organized religion). This trend had been increasing steadily over the years but really increased after 9/11
I wonder how these polls treat Unitarians - Universalists? Many of them are atheists - including the clergy. However, they do have a "religion". A large number of Buddhists are also atheists.
I'd say we have the same thing here in Ireland among my generation (90s/00s). It's not that people are becoming athiest or anything, but I think a lot of people are just coming up with a value, and sticking with it and not going any further. ALOT of my friends are agnostic, and they range from male, female, 18, 40 something, irish, american, pakistani, english, australian, nothern irish, goth, emo, dance kids, hipsters, etc. It's not a bad thing, its just something, u no.
i go to a catholic highschool and alot of my friends are just closet atheists, they're just not as vocal about it as i am, and they want to fit in with everyone else.
that's probably true for a lot of people out there

Bibles are a waste of trees and paper. They should all be recycled into science textbooks.

I have plenty of athiest friends, and I have religous friends, and they both seem to live pretty much the same life.

@Telegram20 Amen to that brother. Sheesh, enough with the dark ages & all the superstitions thereof.

Even though I am in the minority group of Americans, only 15% on this issue; I feel I am in the most reasonable and rational group. (smile)

Heh. I grew up in Vermont; can't say I'm surprised it's the least religious state.
