hmm, i tried that, and when I try to define the brush, it just gives me the brush as the whole picture....And yes I have clicked the correct layer

did you use the selection tool to select the portion of the picture that you wanna define as a brush?

What you can do is to copy the whole pic and copy it in a new layer and:

-make the selection of the part that u wanna define

-Shift+Control "I" to invert that selection

-delete all (so you will just keep the selection you want)

-hide the rest of the layers so you can just see the piece you wanna define as a brush.

-finlly select all and Edit - define brush...
