Huh, and here I thought Funimation did a decent job with dubbing songs. This song is actually the worse one so far. The music is too loud, to the point of almost blocking out the characters and the lyrics dont even really fit the rhyme scheme of the song... =="
I'm a fan of the Japanese version, but I enjoyed listening to this one. To me, they sound very similar with their Japanese counterparts. Of course they won't be EXACTLY the same, but that's because they're completely different people. However, I have to say that Zoro's singing voice kind of surprised. His is probably the closest (singing-wise, since I haven't heard him speak) out of all of them. Haha, and Kappei Yamaguchi's voice is too unique to be copied. Overall, the cast did a good job!

Hmm I love the dub AND I am watching it, but one thing would make they're dub m h better. Emotions. I just listened to the Japanese version and realized how much more the Japanese VA are putting in to it. They just sound more natural. If the Funimation guys can sound more emotional wether it be happy, sad or shocked itd be 100x better.
wow, the funimation voice actors are very good singers... so I guess that if Funimation gets to season 4 (which I hope they do) then there would be no problem for whenever they dub the straw hats version of "We Are".

The dub actors/actresses convey the feeling of excitement and adventure that the song is supposed to embody effectively, because it's a fun song about family, not a serious piece of music that alters the thought process entirely!
You can argue it's not perfect but this isn't the kind of song that requires perfection.

@AndyF1996 There's a difference between disliking something on acting ability and disliking something based merely on the voice. Mine is because of the acting, not the voices. The voice actors in Japan (seiyu) are professionals, considered much like life action actors in Hollywood. In doubt many people think they're bad actors. That's kind of what I meant.

You can go around saying whose acting is bad and whose isn't, either way in the end you're the one sounding like a complete ass. Would you watch the French dub of Indiana Jones? Or the Chinese dub? No, you wouldn't. Because the original is clearly better. The same goes for a majority of anime. Because the language translates the same, just taken further out of context in relation to english by only needing to be in sentence form, rather than in fluent speaking form.

I find it more comfertable and more in a context that I enjoy in english. The acting isn't a problem. I don't think I'm missing out on a lot watching subs. By now I've watched it so long that I don't even notice it's in Japanese any more. I can understand the characters just by their faces, actions or sounds. Language is only a barrier for those who aren't in tune with their fellow humans. That's what I think.
@warlordgorgutz1 Good point. Well heres what I'll probably do. Season 4 of the dub won't be out till around summer they're saying. I'm at around 190. After I watch all the dub episodes and wait for season 4, I'll check out all the episodes I've watched Dub in Sub form. Then I'll buy season 4 and choose whatever I prefer by then :)

The third collection is about to be released on the 29th in North America. One collection is around 26 episodes, or 2 voyages. One new collection every 2 months.

You seem to be trying to say over and over that the Japanese version is better to people who just don't want to look at the bottom of their screen to understand what's going on... Nami's right, everyone in that crew are misfits. It's really good. Except Luffy's solos, they aren't that great. Then again, I can't blame his voice actor. Trying to sing while doing her Luffy voice can't be easy.

The misfit line is so well sung - I really think Nami's English voice is underrated. It's in character all the time and sounds so beautiful. I love the song - means more when you've had this family friendship relationships.

Gomu is simply the Japanese pronunciation of Gum, it doesn't make any sort of different how it's said.

This song is hilarious! I just remembered that when I introduced my friend to One Piece, she said that the characters seem like people she would want to be related to. She also refered to Franky as the speedo torpedo.

english dub: 8/10 not that i hate it but its pretty good

It's really good. Except Luffy's solos, they aren't that great. Then again, I can't blame his voice actor. Trying to sing while doing her Luffy voice can't be easy.
Then again, Luffy doesn't seem like the type of character who would have a good singing voice. (Skills of his Japanese voice aside).

The misfit line is so well sung - I really think Nami's English voice is underrated. It's in character all the time and sounds so beautiful. I love the song - means more when you've had this family friendship relationships.

man i usally think funimation does really good at songs but this time they could of done better i guess i wish they would of kept the original lyrics i think they should of done a full version cause choppers solo and zoros solo got taken out of this version

@THEONETAILS Zoro's solo is in this version. His part is between Nami and Usopp's lines. Also, keep the original lyrics? You wanted the English actors to sing it in Japanese? That kind of defeats the point of making an English dub of
