  • When I heard The Cure I was just starting to smoke weed. Very Intense. I miss the people I knew then.

  • fuori dal comune.... minchia

  • Flanger pedals were built for this tune :)

  • Robert looks so good there. I just wish he was sweating over me.

    I'd lick it off.

  • my favorite song of all time

  • oh.my.god

Robert Smith IS sex. no questions.

  • Andy Anderson on the drums, ladies and gentlemen.......

  • @broaddusmarines Yeah I like his drumming - a pity he lost it by attacking other members of the tour party which got him sacked.

  • Looks like a fender jazzmaster guitar

  • 6:37 YES!

  • tom rose from anima mundi hamburg, ok

  • ja

  • What guitar is RS playing?

  • If you wanna hear the best live version of a forest, check out the one on my channel

  • zOMG!!!1 They all have animu hair!!! super kawaii desu ne!

  • incredibly sexy, and a true artist

  • Who knew he could rip a guitar up like that ffs.

  • My beautiful Beethoven (Robert Smith) gone wrong for all the right reasons! Robert is indeed a Supreme being!

  • Wow his sweating like crazy

  • The Cure is highlly underrated as a band that can preform as a unit. They work so well together it is a true gift they have as musicians, pure genius at times! However Robert is totally over looked as huge influence in the guitar playing world. His style is as original and mezmorizing as vocals. Way ahead of there time and for that there music will be timeless as well!! kissess!!

  • cure for ever love

  • that was fucking rad

  • cool I am sweet charming

  • i have this on vinyl. awesome recording.

  • simon wins the award for 'least hair products worn on stage'

  • @ak2wa2or

  • @YeahImFromThe80s well, tbh, Smith still sounds pretty damn good live, if they werent over with, id recommend you to see him live for the "Reflections" shows (they played their first 3 albums in full).

  • @hellchild65 Over with??? Is that fact or your opinion?

  • @FXMAN66 lol the reflections tour, i assume thats not an event that continues to infinite... read much?

  • @YeahImFromThe80s Very sad you feel that way because seeing them now will still blow your F'n socks off. But you are probably right if you had grown up with them. I saw them the first time in the early 80's and they NEVER get old. Don't get sucked into listening to the shollow losers that say the cure no longer has it. They ARE it!!!!!

  • 28 People Are Lost In a Forest

  • Imagine a world without 80's music.

  • saw them live in sydney, australia in 2000 at the sydney entertainment centre. was a great night that was! met them all except for robert :( at the iguana bar , kings cross after their show! very polite,respectful...just all round cool guys! gotta love The Cure! <3

  • ey i can make you go crazy

  • wow, amazing! I wish I could see them live.

  • Love it ..love them..love Robert Smith, and the funky style the Cure has brought to us through the years:)

  • Don't worry Cure fans, ..Robert Smith has been cited in the top 20-30 most influential guitarist in "Guitar Player/Guitar World" magazine. You cannot expect Robert to play as virtuoso like Allan Holdsworth, Vinnie Moore, Malmsteem, ..or else his song isn't going to sound as New Wave as it is/was.

If he plays virtuoso guitar in his songs then none of you/me will be fans of the Cure. It would sound odd. Guitar virtuosity has its place.

Cactus World News has great guitar for a new wave group

  • @thiefgarr The guitar work on Never Enough (Big Mix) was Robert - amazing solo that. He claimed that Porl had intended to do it, but Robert just got the inspiration after dinner and laid down one hell of a guitar track.

  • @thiefgarr music isn't only speed

  • I listened so many times this song and this is one of the best versions, so up to date music, I'm 46 now and still feel a shiver down my spine and again and again...

  • god save japan!

  • again and again and again and again and again and again

  • Echo & the Bunnymen...The Cure.....Joy Division.....Buzzcocks..The Church...GREATEST and most influential bands ever.

  • spettacolari!

  • my favourite version of the song!

  • wow i was born in 1984!

  • @morkinor I'm glad I wasn't. :-) Got to see them in their prime 8 times! ahhhh....

  • amazing melody!

  • Yeah but after 85 he kinda lost it somewhat then came back in 89.

  • Well, he looks like he fits in with all of the people.

  • 240p we meet again

  • Couldn't listen to this stuff due to the big hair and mopery when it was new. 26 years later it's obvious this is some of the best psychedelic guitar music ever made. Awesome band.

  • To die in a forest.

  • check out the best version of a forest on my page

  • 6:16 - 8:04 > sex

  • Love this song! The bass player (Phil Thornalley) is pretty sexy too.

  • What a great band....so under rated!

  • κομματάρα!

  • @109messerschmittbf I could not have said it better myself. This band is fucking amazing on all aspects and levels, and those who don't appriciate them, clearly have to taste in great and meaningful music.

  • Timeless

  • beautiful song ... since 27 years.. i love ist

  • Who the fuck are the 24 assholes that didn't like this? ohhh.... maybe some sad pathetic Lady Poopoo that stumble into great music, fuck you 24 assholes

  • Dope. Now I Know We Don't Need Drugs To Get High ! This Makes Me High.

  • Robert is sweating like a motherfucker.

  • Incredible!

  • This is a fantastic performance, and Robert looks hot here :)

  • Best live version of this song I've ever heard

  • Regardless of band personnel changes etc..Robert is THE CURE. Sure, I love Simon (as I play Bass), but it don't matter who supports Robert....it will still be the Cure. Bought Primary as a 7 inch single and have loved them ever since.

  • /watch?v=UikyjGhlzZs

  • Into the treeeeeeeeeeeeees

    Robert smith's hairstyle is amazing.

  • brilliant.

  • I like so much

  • orgasmic!

  • Even without technique, those guys would create a mysterious atmosphere. Excellent lyrics helped a lot.

  • Remember this tour well. Saw them at the Glasgow Apollo 6 months earlier. Probably one of the best line ups they ever had. Still got the 10' EP of A Hanging Garden with live versions of A Forest and Killing an Arab somewhere....must be worth a few quid ;-)

  • top notch!! *****

  • I just watched them perform in the Sydney Opera House last night, they played A Forest and it was as amazing as this.

  • Simon is grooving here.

    It's not his fault he's so amazing;3

  • 24 people are lost in a forest

  • @666arielgerardo I actually hate this kind of comments but this one made me laugh, can't explain why

  • hahahahaha!

  • @666arielgerardo 27 in fact ... helpless bastards ... :P

  • amazing

  • The BEST VERSION EVER!

  • @109messerschmittbf

So true, strip away the makeup, hair and synth and the Cure are just a really awesome guitar band. Led of course by smithy, but backed up by Simon. Smithy has been a professional musician for over 35 years...and still going strong

  • @Vypir1966 I could never forget Simon Gallop, I know he adds tremendous value and is often an underated component of the Cure. Each time I have been priviledged enough to see The Cure live the reverberation of his bass playing has gone straight through me and I've always been very impressed with his outstanding ability & energy.

  • It continues to perplex me why Robert Smith isn't given the credit & cudious he so richly deserves for his guitar playing ability. I suppose the big hair, the make up & the uniqueness of his vocal delivery combined with the hauntingly deep lyrics distract the auidence away from his tremendous skill level on the guitar which seems to fly under the radar. He is right up there with the very best in my opinion.

  • @109messerschmittbf He is a wonderful guitarrist, although in some songs his works are very simple to the point, he always had skill on both the electric and acoustic guitars. But more than skill, he had feeling =) sometimes it's alot more important, the greatest songs come from the heart not the head.

  • @kaoruSG Very well said. Always great to read insightful and intelligent feedback.

  • @109messerschmittbf The guitars of The Cure are very catchy and sound great..but they are not overly hard to play

  • @staind531 I completely disagree - Robert Smith is a master guitarist and a creative genius. His playing style has influenced so many artists that came after him.

  • @BuckeyeExpat Hes creative because he can make up simple riffs that are really catchy and beautiful..i was just sayin they are not hard to play

  • @staind531 True. Although I share his fans enthousiasm for him and the Cure. The man is not a guitarmaster by a long shot. Not to be pretentious or arrogant, but I´ve been playing for 20 years now, and it takes just a few lessons and a bit of practice to master his guitarparts. I know what I´m talking about. Yes, he´s an extraordinary songwriter and an outstanding artist by all means. But lets not exaggerate his skills on guitar.

  • @Ojoe2010 Yeah I'm a big fan also. He is a good musician for creating the songs, but on the other hand im 18 and can play a number of The Cure songs. But I could never write music like this bloke

  • But the fact is he is remarkably ORIGINAL, progressive, and innovative in his playing. In my opinion it's this aspect of his playing that is vastly underrated with Mr. Smith. The world is filled with the graves of technically talented guitar players that no one cared for.

  • @staind531 But the fact is he is remarkably ORIGINAL, progressive, and innovative in his playing. In my opinion it's this aspect of his playing that is vastly underrated with Mr. Smith. The world is filled with the graves of technically talented guitar players that no one cared for.

  • @Ojoe2010 I only play guitar for about 6 years or so, and for example, the song "killing an arab" which was mentioned here is very intense in speed and construction. But it's not so much his technique I admire, and I reckon in some songs its very easy to play his parts, but I love how broad he is in the sound he makes and helps complete, and how he switches his "mood" from electric to acoustic.

  • @staind531 With respect, Robert Smith didn't just play those parts... he conceived, composed, arranged, recorded and produced them too. Other skillful guitarists may be able to copy them but he created them.

Guitarists I know criticise U2's Edge for his lack of proficiency too but he also created a sound entirely his own with the limited technique he had.

As Thelonious Monk once said "The genius is the one most like himself".

See you at the opera house in 10 days Mr Smith.

  • @rorytoomey Wait? Which opera house is this? In Sydney or something?

  • @jrmetmoi Yeh but totally sold out in about 5 minutes. They are performing the first 3 albums in a row, in their entirety in the concert hall at Sydney Opera House on May 31 and June 1 as part of Vivid Live festival. Tix on ebay are selling for about $500-600 if you can find them. It's pretty intense. I got lucky and have a ticket. One happy man am I.

  • @109messerschmittbf like lady gaga singing

  • @109messerschmittbf the same could be said about a-has guitarist paul waaktar savoy highly talented but un noticed..i know smith a genius :)

  • @109messerschmittbf i agree with you roberth has the best rigth hand in music

  • @109messerschmittbf So true own of my best shows of my life was in Dallas Texas on this tour. I'm 46 and have kept with them from the very beginning. Bobby is amazing.

  • @109messerschmittbf So true own of my best shows of my life was in Dallas Texas on this tour. I'm 46 and have kept with them from the very beginning. Bobby is amazing.

  • @109messerschmittbf Soo True Killing an Arab has some sick guitar in it, Robert is just awesome :)

  • @109messerschmittbf

Sir, I could not have said it better myself. This beautiful music is simply timeless!

  • @109messerschmittbf I totally agree. To top it all off, his simple sounding lyrics sounded with such emotional vocal leads you to understand the complex feeling behind them. Lyrical works like his aren't replicable. I miss our cure from the eighties early nineties... Incredible talent.

  • @109messerschmittbf

    i Absolutely agree

  • @109messerschmittbf he's not as good as you claim him to be. not even near to be considered a guitar virtuoso.

  • @DuskfallBand Thats not what he ment I think, Robert did some amazing things on the guitar, dark sounds, great riffs etc etc... I dont think he wants to put 87 notes into one bar or something. He and Johnny marr are the ones that made me pick up the guitar. Killing an arab's intro is build up from different Tone scale, scale not many people know of or use, so you have to have a little understanding of music and the theory of it.

  • @supermel9 well I think that's exactly what he ment, hence these quotes: "guitar playing ability", "tremendous skill level on the guitar".

  • @DuskfallBand i thought he meant technical virtuosity. i thought he meant playging guitar like steve vai bc that is what matters most

  • @BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS I agree. But in that sense Robert is nowhere near to being a guitar virtuoso.

  • @109messerschmittbf ummm... what are you talking about? Everyone who was at these early 80's concerts knows how awesome Robert is on the guitar, and he still picks it up for various songs so people who only know their later stuff should still know he is awesome. His guitar style influenced more than one whole generation of bands, as did the band's overall sound, Robert's hair and makeup, and a lot of ideas about songwriting)... that seems like quite a lot of recognition, credit, and kudos.

  • @109messerschmittbf couldn't agree more. His style keeps it on the DL.

  • @109messerschmittbf Are u trying to say that u have to have some great ability to play this song? cause you dont... fyi

  • @nckey42

Ok let me clarify my above statement so I can potentially remove any more confusion. All I'm trying to convey is that I greatly admire Robert Smith's skill set, his wonderful contribution to world music & how I believe his talents are criminally underrated. To me [remember this is just my opinion] he is as important to the development of music in the 1980's as say Bowie was in the 1970's. You can make of that what you will, dissect it, critique it, but I prefer just to appreciate it.

  • @109messerschmittbf You know, I'm really coming around to this view too. I was one of those who really never cared that much for the Cure in the 80's and 90's, although I liked a couple of their big hits. My wife liked them better, but I didn't like the image, theatrics, what have you. Now, I'm coming to appreciate Robert and what he's created through 4 decades. The "again and again and again and again..." part of this song is one of the most exciting moments musically in any song. <3 Robert

  • @109messerschmittbf I couldn't put it better myself friend.

  • Comment removed

  • @109messerschmittbf - I remember when he was playing for Souxsie & the Banshees as well as his own band - yes, he is very underrated IMO too...

  • @109messerschmittbf haha yup hair and make up often make good musician somewhat overlooked, but hey we ( the fans ) gets it.

  • @109messerschmittbf

I guess bck in the day, the level was much higer than today's and, as u rightly pointed out, his looks and music overshadowed his guitar skills!

There were Van Hallens and The Edges everywhere u looked at!!!

  • I could not agree more! I love watching him play. Amazes me :) LOVE the guy <3

  • @109messerschmittbf I really like the cure. I don't know if u know how to play the guitar, i play the guitar and might not be the best player out there, but let me tell ya. What Robert Smith is playing is very basic and does not require high skills, the delay effect makes it sound more elaborate. What is really amazing for me is how they combine all the instruments and basic figures to make such a melodic music, the effects of course play an important role to get u into their music.

  • is this a hole song?

  • Very original , i love the ending , super cool leaving the bass player to end the song alone , they are an inspiration to many musicians

  • 23 PEOPLE ARE LOST IN A FOREST

  • 23 people are stu-pid and don't have as good a taste in music as me...and I wasn't even alive when this band were here...

  • powerful performance...this is one of my favorite cure tracks above all else that followed. i don't know about you but this is the track i'd love to get stoned or trip on acid to deep inside a big green forest. hahaha...that would be an experience never to forget.

  • i was being borned in that days

  • Robert Smith is the coolest man on Earth.
