  • This documentary makes one wonder... Are the Indian doctors in India are braver/ smarter/ fool-hardy than their counterparts in England?

... or are the English doctors are so lacking of training/experience compared to the Indian doctors so much so that they are giving-up on this patient and let the Indian doctors handle her case?

  • India has the best doctors in the world.

  • i hope greed doesnt drive us all !!!

  • DID THE CHILD FEATURED IN THE MOVIE RECEIVE TREATMENT? DOES ANYONE KNOW?

  • Indians are very intelligent ..british colonization left them poor ..

  • Brits...keep off..u have exploited India enough..looted this country..committed atrocities..but still u don't teach ur children the truth abt ur evil empire..u can think of India has a 3rd world country or anything u want..Indians still doesn't hate brits for whtever u did bcoz that is India. That is what v r thought in schools to love each other.u can get a debate started on caste..do remember it was u ppl who had the policy of divide and rule..

  • I am moved by british concern for poor in india, apparently the same british did nt realise this human side when they shot 500 people in cornered ground, they did not realise it when they ordered indians to lick their boots. But now all of a sudden they are so concerned, huh crocodile tears, nothing else. Dont get me wrong, the content you have shown is absolute reality in india but your motives are well known.

  • @jayaram this british are now so concerned about india becoming medical outsourcing center. thats all this bitching about. But we are in the right track, sooner my country become rich enough to sponsor every medical need of the poor.

  • Comment removed

  • What is that reporter bitching about? He says the hospital is for the rich, but that british lady is far from rich. He thinks it should be socialized, yet his shitty socialized medicine in England turned that lady AWAY!

    Typical dumb statist

  • Public Healthcare system run by Indian authorities needs an overhaul. Why not leave the management to international bodies like RED CROSS or UNICHEF or WHO?. Indian government should pay the management cost by collecting a hefty medical tax from the medical tourists and the richer patients who can afford treatment in private hospitals.

  • @megalabala1976

India has billions of tax payers dollars to spend on military hardware and not on there own people's health.

This this what happend when a Italian born bartender is a leader of a country.

    What a shame.

  • @BLUERAY1611

Health is free for poor people. Wonder what you are talking about. Military is important because of the nice neighbours that we have. Healthcare will come crashing down if the country is attacked. See Iraq which had the best healthcare in that region at one point. Indian military is to defend its own people and not to rule the world. By the way, why does US spend more on military than next 50 countries combined. They can also spend it on healthcare. Stop posting stupid comments.

  • STILLWATER82,

Are you crazy ? or you in denial ?

"Health care is free in India " have you been to govt hospital in India ? if not i suggest you to please next time you or your family fall sick go to govt hospital. Than come back and we will have nice discussion.

    bye

  • @megalabala1976 Hefty medical tax??!!!! Most of the medical tourists come here because of the low cost and the middle classes and poor are already paying through their noses for treatment at Private hospitals. Its half baked- ill informed ideas like these that are responsible for India's present state of affairs.

  • India if its changing not by politicians but people of india who are pushing themselves with thier entrepreneurship skills

  • @basava3232 Thats true..Indian Government is an impediment to growth.. Its the marvel of the people of India who are so driven to succeed.

  • Hypocrites!!! Why did not the Brit pay back by funding 1 poor person's operation. After all Britain benefits by Indian poverty. To see in the context of them ruling us for over 200 years and were responsible for leaving India poor. Apollo should have charged the Britisher more.

  • @ashish9670

You are a typical indian, blame it on the westerners in the end.

India's poor people wanted a Italian born bartender as there leader and this is what they get. India has billion's of dollars of tax pay's money to spend for rusted millitary hardware while there people die of hunger and diseases.

    WHAT A SHAME

  • why didn't this reporter recommend to the man with the child to go get the documents he needed to go to Apollo? Sad

  • its really unbelivble ...tech from india..

  • Delhi government is the real villian as seen at Apollo. Delhi government must be blind not to see that poor man whose son's intestines are hanging out. Apollo should be allowed to accept foreigners for only as many free surgeries that it performs.

  • This video is a perfect example of how socialized healthcare does not work for ANYONE around the world. Social medicine drives up the cost of private healthcare so that no citizen from neither Britain nor India can afford it.

The Indian Government is the most OVER INVOLVED government in the world, and they control too much. Everything the Government has touched has been destroyed by it. Indians need to realize that the Government has MADE India poor, by calling us the "aam Admi"

  • So the lady (5 min in) rather then lose weight is traveling to India. She was told the surgery was too risky because of her weight.

  • While I understand the issues raised by the video, we have to look at the greater cause and effects of medicine within the global economy. The amount of medical doctors and other people in the medical field willing to leave their third world countries to the first world are huge. These people would be encouraged to stay if they could earn higher salaries. What is needed far more is for information to be placed out there so that the poor of India are able to be aware of legislation.

  • fucking bastards indeed.

  • I took my mom to get a hip-replacement and it went perfectly.

She couldn't be happier - I refuse to believe that it's a third world country any more!

  • medically they never were....they invented surgery....sushruta was the first surgeon in the world and he wrote the first book on surgery...they even invented dentistry....lol...

  • There are many reasons for someone to become a medical doctor. Pressure from parents, getting good enough results in school are only a couple of them. The worst reason to become a medical doctor is greed. The best reason is to want to help people in need. I see an industry based greed occurring here.

  • Indian Politicians suck!!!!!!!

  • India is a pharmaceutical SUPER POWER AND ALL KIND OF MEDICINES ARE AVAILABLE CHEAPLY IN iNDIA NOW. Highly qualified doctors are available in India and now India is a first world in medical and science technology now. One can choose India for medical treatment.

  • im going to india.

  • All over the world, money has become a Demon possessing all Humans until one day a good Exorcist will come and clear up the Evil Tendencies. Everything evolves around Money - Fight for property, Dalits being Cruelly mistreated - for power over Land in return profit, money again, War, money again, Health, money again, food, shelter - If money could be equally distributed to all, intelligent and non intelligent, No difference currencies - One secular, all nations together helping each other...

  • Though a good documentary, people shd understand that population is the biggest problem. Govt.'s duty is to ensure fairness; and equal opportunities... It is definetely not taxpayer's responsibility to take care of the numerous kids of the poor. I might sound too capitalistic but you need to really look at the exact problem,-- namely, POPULATION esp. among poor

  • It is so lucky we have these moronic governments sides with us. We don't take care of the poor, they can't take care of the poor. ha:)

  • Lasly, I would like to remark that nobody should live like a parasite. Parasites are never liked and are hated everywhere. That's the nature of humans and other living beings. Everybody should strive to live independently.

Independence provides self respect and better status in society.

'Interdependence' and not 'Dependence' is what one should look forward to.

One should look forward to helping other persons to achieve common and individual goals.

  • And the reality is the rich and the power are always connected. The poor? Is it their products? When someone stocks and cuts on supply, someone would have to steal and rub to survive. When they success, they of course should entertain about it a big deal. We are all living actually have to satisfy each other to some extend. Your mind has to evolve if you don't want to live in fear and hatred.

  • Mr. Beancube,

My intention was never to mock poor people. The reality is what you have stated. And you have stated it very correctly.

But the modern day capitalism is not about making others poor it's about making oneself rich. Today, we are lucky to be living in a world where opportunities remain available for all irrespective of who one is?

  • Mr. Beancube, from where I am, there the society is to an extent stratified! and it used to be worse before. US is accused to be biased but India was always biased. There is a cast name as 'Shudras'(In modern day terms POOR). They were never treated equal, until now, when with the reforms, they have number of opportunities available same as that of any high caste Indian citizen!

  • If you know, Dhirubhai Ambani! (Mukesh Ambani's father) Founder of the Reliance industries. He was never rich before he strived to become one.

Steve Jobs, (Mr. Apple) used to eat food in HariKrishna Temple, when he had no job, look what he has become. BEcause he didn't sit back and accused the rich of being unfair. He strived to become one himself.

  • To make the poor more productive the government needs to step in and help them out. Helping them out to be independent will be better for everyone even for the rich and the middle class because they will not be a burden anymore. Just leaving the poor alone because they are regarded as parasites is not a solution. I don't believe that people are poor because they are lazy and expect to live off of other people's help.

  • I agree and government can create environment and more opportunities so that people can earn and get rich...In India infrastructure boost is the most required!

  • To get rid of the poor people (that you regard as parasites), the government needs to help them get better education not just leaving them alone. Living them alone will create more problem to the country because they are not productive. If they don't get education, there children will also don't get education.

  • In my opinion, everything revolves around money and power. The richer and the more powerful a country is the better it is served.

Had nigerians been richer and more powerful, they would have got better treatment than what they are getting now.

India, however, is evolving and after lying dormant for a long time, it is again making a mark internationally. Space, medicine, engineering, fashion ,films there is a long list where India is doing gr8.

  • Govt. must ensure that all its people get equal opportunity irrespective of who they are.

What I hated the most was people are being treated on the basis of their race. That nigerian guy, for unknown reasons, was deprived of facilities that the British lady got.

One can get richer if (s)he wants to but one cannot change his race. I think every body should be treated at par.

I am an Indian and I sometimes think Indians act snobbishly.

  • What I think is nobody can be blamed and each and every person has to work in tandem to get it going.

Everybody wants to earn and to live a better life. Dr. Reddy is primarily a business man and then a philanthropist so he is doing what he should. His act of favouring rich is thus justified.

Poor people must understand that to live a better life they will need more means to earn and therefore should seek ways to earn. Nobody can get rich simply by sitting at home.

  • Michael Moore should've mentioned this in his movie SICKO. I've me Americans who've gone to India and Thailand for operations. A procedure that costs $80,000 in the USA can cost $15,000 in India.

Thailand has a hospital where they do top-rate sex changes. If they can do operations like that, they can do regular surgery too.

  • The more telling information would be to learn how much Journeymen Pictures gave to that little boy's father for his stomach surgery instead of just making a fine point of it for others and not themselves. Social medicine has failed in every place it has been tried, and it will always fail for the same reasons Dr. Reddy stated. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. The sooner understood the better for all. But now the Great America thinks they can improve on it. :D There ain't no such thing

  • The day the rich can provide the same Quality of care to the poor as they provide to their own, would be the day The world would have become civilized!.

  • I used to be of that view earlier but no longer. It pains to see that people who are really poor have on an avg. 4 kids/family. I dont understand wht they think...except using their kids as some resources. Govt. should implement strict population control measures.

  • The reason the poor have more kids is purely economics. For them it means one more person bringing in some money.Education in English is the only way to overcome poverty. The truth is the caste system will not allow it. An educated population is the solution. The internet is a cost effect method of imparting education to the masses. The corrupt politician is too busy making money for himself to really bother with Indias abject poverty. The recent food riots should be a wakeup call.

  • awesome u show the real face...of india...i have been a Physical therapist and have witnessed this disparity..its very unfortunate

  • If not for large private hospitals many expert doctors would not have returned to India from US, UK etc. India would have lost good doctors in Brain Drain. Regarding specialist doctors, expensive they may be, but better in India then lost in Brain Drain.

  • Not right to fully blame Appollo only. If u don't hav Appollo then even the rich & elite in India will occupy free beds of Public Hospitals. By moving the rich to Appolo & other private hospitals atleast u create more beds for needy. Also, earlier our rich used to go overseas for treatment, now they get in India itself. Good healthcare does cost. Besides even Public Healthcare doctors may not talk nice but definitely they handle a hell LOT more patients than any doctor in developed world

  • So very true..Space Pope...Its only pessimists like u who like to comment like this...Sonfabitch...Apollo hospitals..Google it...I know you can google it and find proper information since you have come a long way searching to know more about Indian Advancements..Medical to Army..Satellites..Research...Bastard I know your insecurity is killing you...May god bless you...Amen..

  • Very interesting documentary. It clearly shows the discrepancy that is growing rapidly in changing India between the private sector and the public one.

It is of course not a specific Indian problem but the contrast in India seems to me a stark one.

  • They(journeyman pictures) exploit the poor in India conveniently forgetting the fact that these foreigners who come here suffer the same fate in their respective countries. Australian trash!!!!

  • abe idiot apollo hospitals is one of the top medical centers in india...if you don't know something don't give your opinion like a fool...and where the hell are yeh from...eh...
