  • I love this song! I love it's lyrical question response development...so calm with sprinkles of harmonics, interplayed with pleasant melodies.

    Thanks for posting. \-)

  • best song with forest in the title? nah. harlequin forest by Opeth beats it. best song with forest in the title by a guy with 9 fingers? definitely.

  • @LWRCftw lol opeth... gtfo

  • Why is there no studio versions of this around?!?!!?

  • I love this tune. It sounds just the way it would if I were sitting at a dying camp fire or on a front porch in the mountains. Genius.

  • The Beyond Nature disc was an exceptional piece of work the way my ears are tuned.

  • He plays so well, even acoustic guitars sound like they have effects on them

  • @Dirtyshamable That'll be all the chorus he has on it.

  • @forgoodforall I want to know the same thing.

  • @ablessedservant

    After some research I decided it must be the Acoustic Style video/book he made. It's still available in his store on DVD! It is currently the only item on my Christmas list. (;

  • Anyone know the source of these videos? Was it a live VHS he sold or something?

  • Most appropriately titled. Reminiscent Hedges.

  • This is a preview of Heaven Music!

  • somewhere there's two bunnies making sweet love in the forest.

  • I have been unsuccessful at a video response...

but if you guys care to hear. I just uploaded a version of this tune with me playing. :)

  • The tuning is EG#EG#BC#. This song is relatively easy to learn compared to other Phil, it's just getting the style and feel down that's tough. This song touched me the most off anything on Beyond Nature. It may not hold up to March of the Clouds but I would put this in my Top10 instrumental-wise. Absolute brilliance

  • wow how were you able to figure out the tuning?

  • @SRVblueshero1 He mentions that it is in the same tuning as the song "I will sing" off his What a Day Album. Fragile Forest actually opens with the same tag as I Will Sing. Also, it is in one of his acoustic guitar books, highly recommended

  • @chuiiadam I love Castle's Call/Pilgrim's Flight. That song is brilliant. I feel like I'm at some weird hippie christian renassaince fair or something.

  • @wileypayote , That song is great, I remember the first time I heard it was through an audio clip he had recorded for LR Baggs. He noodled for 6 or so minutes. I'm 22 now, I was about 15 at the time and without money or much access to music, I held onto that clip for dear life. Anywho, part of it was the Castles Call part where it sounds like he's playing 2 separate parts at once. I told myself, "if I can learn that I'd be the best!". Well, I learned it haha, and I'm not the best :-)

  • Wow thanks for uploading! Very peaceful music.

  • good joke. the only "Kansas" Phil is associated with is Leawood, Kansas. this is Phil Keaggy, not Phil Ehart.

  • man this guy is awesome, how is it that i never heard of this man before today....

really beautiful relaxing music , i've just eaten to this usic and i must say i feel really chilled and very content :D

    thanks for sharing this uploader

    peacski

  • I still think "March Of The Clouds" is one of Mr. Keaggys best works from "The WInd And The Wheat" album

  • Anyone, know the story about his missing finger?

  • part of a water pump fell on it when he was a kid.The old farmhouse kind of water pump.

  • Absolutely amazing... The best acoustic guitarist on Earth in my opinion.

  • Thank you, Mr. Keaggy! While I'm not a believer of god or a heaven, having your music here on earth has been an inspiration and has made the brief time that we're here much easier to withstand...

  • I am a believer and your comment is probly one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.

  • thanks, bro... peace~

  • I have listened to this tune multiple times and at did not initially like it much. The more I listen to it the greater my appreciation grows for this tune. I have always thought that "The Wind and the Wheat" is possibly the best instrumental guitar piece ever penned. I am now starting to believe that this piece is on par. The thing about both is that you can feel the emotion through the playing. This is Keaggy's brilliance. I have heard others play and ithese tunes and the emotion is absent.

  • I completely agree with you.

  • yer completely, and the wind and the wheat was a treat to the ears as soon as i heard it.

  • oh my god,why dont such talented players like this get more exposure and recognition, although im not christian he really knows how to ''fell the music and he believes in what hes playing, truly magnificent

  • phil's cosidered one of the best. The Lord has given him an annointing with his music. if you get the chance, go see him in concert. you will be blown away. check out his REUNION video also. good song too.

  • *The Reunion* is nice, but you forget to say *The Wind and the Wheat* too ! loll :)

    May God bless you !

  • Yep. Simply enjoy and be inspired.

  • Personally, I also want to try and move away from the drive to rate people as good or better (hard as this is to do), and try to listen to what others have to say musically--some real gems can come from what we may have thought were unlikely places.

  • Excellant statement.

  • There's also more to music than whether or not it impresses. It's very tempting to try and impress all the time, rather than focus on making music that more or less accurately expresses ideas, feelings, etc. Keaggy actually said (I think in one of his music books, Acoustic Solos, or something similar) that he didn't feel anything he did was completely original. There are people who invent stories, and there are people who can tell them well.

  • great emotion to this song

  • check out wind and the wheat

  • muito bem... ótimo..execente..de mais..etc

  • Yeah! Now THAT's sensitivity, Keaggy never fails to deliver! I have a hard time comprehending anyone copying this guy's smooth style, to any precision! (millikmc - you must be a genius!)

  • Amen! As far as I'm concerned, Phil has written music for almost anyone, if not for anyone. His acoustic music is great for a pleasant, dinner-type atmosphere.

  • Thanks for posting the video but I must disagree with you. I think this is one of his best songs.

  • @F35B2009 I agree, this song decribes God better than anything I've ever heard. Or maybe more than anything the life of Jesus.

  • @ZentetsukenVII True that

  • @F35B2009 Agreed!

  • Phil's songs are very playable, it just takes practice. I can play several of them, this one included. Not bragging, just saying that you can do it if you try!

  • please post some videos of your performances

  • If Phil's not playing in Heaven, I'm not going. :-)

  • Phil will be playing in Heaven. That is just one of the many reasons it is called heaven.

  • Agreed.

  • @kstarheel5150 You should want to go anyway to see Jesus.

  • Mr. Keaggy is a great guitarist. I actually went and saw him play about 2 weeks ago.

  • Wow...Phil's brilliance, always a gift from God, really flows in this piece. If you do not think it is anything special, try to play it sometime! I am always amazed when I listen to him play. Praise to The Almighty and thanks Mr. Keaggy.

  • oldschooljimmy1. Try playing it sometime? Try swimming with anvils tied to your feet! PK uses alot of alternate tunings like DADGAD, etc. He usually Tells which tunings he is using on his album notes. I guess he's not worried about anyone stealing his copying his style.

  • God still speaks...a guitar and a servant...

  • Phil has much work that is soft and subtle like this beautiful one. You may listen to it one time and think it is nothing special. Listen to this one when you are in the right frame of mind and relaxation and you will be able to best appreciate it's flowing brilliance. 5/5 Stars any way you look at it IMHO.

  • "Isn't as nice as some of the others..."? wow... but there are a few better ones out there...

  • love u ur, a gift from god!

  • This man's gift always brings tears to my eyes and full heart of thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing this selection. Why you would say it isn't as nice as some of his others is beyond me...all PK's music is awe-inspiring, I think!

  • this music is really relaxing puts me at peace at the end of a rough day

  • His guitar sounds so bright and magical.

  • i love this

close call between this and The Wind in the Wheat

why on Earth say its not as nice as some others? doesnt get better

  • Beyond Nature - probably one of the greatest albums of all time.

    Great job, Phil.

    p.

  • Like David playing music to soothe Saul, this is so good thank you !

  • heavenly! ! !

  • Once asked of Jimmy Hendrix, "How does it feel to be the finest guitaist in the world?" His responce, ..." You'll have to ask Phil Keaggy!" Once you've seen him perform or watch these videos, you'll understand. Don't miss a chance to see him if ever you can!

  • with all due respect, that story about hendrix is not true. but that doesn't take away from the fact that keaggy is an incredible talent.

  • Had the privilidge of seeing Phil Keaggy twice at Pleasant Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church. Got his autograph on his ' What A Day Album ( you remember those vinyls don't you?).

He was plain amazing and is a gift to the body of Christ for sure.

  • Phil Keaggy is a living example of God's "(Master) Craftsmanship", both in music, and indeed.

  • i would die happy if i could play at his level

  • I didn't notice his finger... Anyone know how he lost his middle finger?

  • An accident with a water pump behind his family's farmhouse when he was 4 years of age. The pump fell on it, and damaged it enough to require amputation. It never slowed the man down, God bless him. Such an inspiring player.

  • simply amazing...

  • That song just made my world a little better. Thank you!:)

  • ive oly just discovrd him, hes not oly one of the greatest acoustic guitarists ive ever seen but hes music creates emotions he makes us feal what he is fealing... incredible

  • Beautiful piece of music. Phil, pure bliss!! K.

  • This is one of the most beautiful acoustic pieces I've ever heard. Pure genius.

  • Thank God for Phil Keaggy. Phil is a great guitarist because he serve a great Lord. What we commit to God He does bless. DS

  • he has a couple of tab books available for purchase at most music stores

  • i dont like the description for this video.. this song is amazing.

  • agreed !!! WTH ? beautiful, not nice.....

  • Yeah the video quality is poor...

  • The notes being played through the video (which can sometimes cause a note to sound more sharp or flat then they actually are) are a flat Eb, a flat Ab, a flat Eb, a flat G, a flat Bb, and a flat Eb. He might just have it tuned to D, A, D, Gb, A, D. Chris Carrabba from dashboard confessional uses this tuning a lot also. It sounds really good.

  • does anybody know the tuning for this song?

  • Nice!

  • I cant find keaggy tabs anywhere, please help

  • not even through google ?

  • The master of the acoustic- Wow !

  • one of the guitar masters of our day indeed!

  • He's playing what his inner voice is singing ... that is the key. Think about it.

  • That is what separates great music from good music. Good observation.

  • listen at 2:41 for the raked upstroke. It sounds like a stone dropping into water...another good technique.

  • I love the part he plays for about 20 seconds from around the 2 minute mark. Beautiful!! I want to learn that part.

  • Have just discovered phil keaggy just superb a man to aspire to without doubt (not that many will get to his standard :-))Am totally awe struck when I watch him.

  • This is very beautiful. No apologies needed. Thank you for posting it!
