After some research I decided it must be the Acoustic Style video/book he made. It's still available in his store on DVD! It is currently the only item on my Christmas list. (;
The tuning is EG#EG#BC#. This song is relatively easy to learn compared to other Phil, it's just getting the style and feel down that's tough. This song touched me the most off anything on Beyond Nature. It may not hold up to March of the Clouds but I would put this in my Top10 instrumental-wise. Absolute brilliance
@SRVblueshero1 He mentions that it is in the same tuning as the song "I will sing" off his What a Day Album. Fragile Forest actually opens with the same tag as I Will Sing. Also, it is in one of his acoustic guitar books, highly recommended
@chuiiadam I love Castle's Call/Pilgrim's Flight. That song is brilliant. I feel like I'm at some weird hippie christian renassaince fair or something.
@wileypayote , That song is great, I remember the first time I heard it was through an audio clip he had recorded for LR Baggs. He noodled for 6 or so minutes. I'm 22 now, I was about 15 at the time and without money or much access to music, I held onto that clip for dear life. Anywho, part of it was the Castles Call part where it sounds like he's playing 2 separate parts at once. I told myself, "if I can learn that I'd be the best!". Well, I learned it haha, and I'm not the best :-)
Thank you, Mr. Keaggy! While I'm not a believer of god or a heaven, having your music here on earth has been an inspiration and has made the brief time that we're here much easier to withstand...
I have listened to this tune multiple times and at did not initially like it much. The more I listen to it the greater my appreciation grows for this tune. I have always thought that "The Wind and the Wheat" is possibly the best instrumental guitar piece ever penned. I am now starting to believe that this piece is on par. The thing about both is that you can feel the emotion through the playing. This is Keaggy's brilliance. I have heard others play and ithese tunes and the emotion is absent.
oh my god,why dont such talented players like this get more exposure and recognition, although im not christian he really knows how to ''fell the music and he believes in what hes playing, truly magnificent
phil's cosidered one of the best. The Lord has given him an annointing with his music. if you get the chance, go see him in concert. you will be blown away. check out his REUNION video also. good song too.
Personally, I also want to try and move away from the drive to rate people as good or better (hard as this is to do), and try to listen to what others have to say musically--some real gems can come from what we may have thought were unlikely places.
There's also more to music than whether or not it impresses. It's very tempting to try and impress all the time, rather than focus on making music that more or less accurately expresses ideas, feelings, etc. Keaggy actually said (I think in one of his music books, Acoustic Solos, or something similar) that he didn't feel anything he did was completely original. There are people who invent stories, and there are people who can tell them well.
Yeah! Now THAT's sensitivity, Keaggy never fails to deliver! I have a hard time comprehending anyone copying this guy's smooth style, to any precision! (millikmc - you must be a genius!)
Amen! As far as I'm concerned, Phil has written music for almost anyone, if not for anyone. His acoustic music is great for a pleasant, dinner-type atmosphere.
Phil's songs are very playable, it just takes practice. I can play several of them, this one included. Not bragging, just saying that you can do it if you try!
Wow...Phil's brilliance, always a gift from God, really flows in this piece. If you do not think it is anything special, try to play it sometime! I am always amazed when I listen to him play. Praise to The Almighty and thanks Mr. Keaggy.
oldschooljimmy1. Try playing it sometime? Try swimming with anvils tied to your feet! PK uses alot of alternate tunings like DADGAD, etc. He usually Tells which tunings he is using on his album notes. I guess he's not worried about anyone stealing his copying his style.

Although this isn't a nice song, it's a sweet song. Although it's not THAT sweet, it IS very tender and sensitive. Although it's not as tender and sensitive as some songs, it's quite subtle and evocative. Perhaps it's subtlety and evocativeness is not what most people expect and admire and require and demand and insist on...
Phil has much work that is soft and subtle like this beautiful one. You may listen to it one time and think it is nothing special. Listen to this one when you are in the right frame of mind and relaxation and you will be able to best appreciate it's flowing brilliance. 5/5 Stars any way you look at it IMHO.
This man's gift always brings tears to my eyes and full heart of thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing this selection. Why you would say it isn't as nice as some of his others is beyond me...all PK's music is awe-inspiring, I think!
Once asked of Jimmy Hendrix, "How does it feel to be the finest guitaist in the world?" His responce, ..." You'll have to ask Phil Keaggy!" Once you've seen him perform or watch these videos, you'll understand. Don't miss a chance to see him if ever you can!
Had the privilidge of seeing Phil Keaggy twice at Pleasant Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church. Got his autograph on his ' What A Day Album ( you remember those vinyls don't you?).
He was plain amazing and is a gift to the body of Christ for sure.
An accident with a water pump behind his family's farmhouse when he was 4 years of age. The pump fell on it, and damaged it enough to require amputation. It never slowed the man down, God bless him. Such an inspiring player.
ive oly just discovrd him, hes not oly one of the greatest acoustic guitarists ive ever seen but hes music creates emotions he makes us feal what he is fealing... incredible
The notes being played through the video (which can sometimes cause a note to sound more sharp or flat then they actually are) are a flat Eb, a flat Ab, a flat Eb, a flat G, a flat Bb, and a flat Eb. He might just have it tuned to D, A, D, Gb, A, D. Chris Carrabba from dashboard confessional uses this tuning a lot also. It sounds really good.
Have just discovered phil keaggy just superb a man to aspire to without doubt (not that many will get to his standard :-))Am totally awe struck when I watch him.
I love this song! I love it's lyrical question response development...so calm with sprinkles of harmonics, interplayed with pleasant melodies.
Thanks for posting. \-)
