That tackle defined gascoigne's career - how would it of all turned out if he hadn't made that challenge? It's fair to say, many think he would of had a far better career without that injury, but would we have the memories of Euro 96, probably gazza's and england's most memorable highlights?

@Mikez4 Sorry Mike - It was Paul Stewart who was sub & to be fair - Milford should have booked Gazza off in the 3rd minute for kicking Garry Parker in the throat, then the Charles booking would have been his 2nd - then Stewart wouldn't have scored the equalizer - but in the end decisions went both ways - Forest's goal should have been dis-allowed for Hodge fouling the wall (what a huge push) to create the gap for Pearce's shot.

I watched an interview referee Roger Milford gave some years later on the incident. He confessed that he should have sent Gazza off, but the fact he got injured as well and the delay made him not do it.

Scant consolation for Forest, because Pearce scored from the resulting frre-kick, 1-0 up against 10 men, Forest would have been odds-on to win.

Worse still, Gazza's replacement Nayim, would become the hero of the Final.
