so many memories !! thank you for sharing..this! I used to listen to it again and again when I was 16, when I was unhappy ,when I was happy, when I was thinking about what my life would be 15years later.. and now, I m still here, dreaming about this and ... listening to it.. ! xxxx
This is a great song but I'm still puzzled why it was released as a single. In fact, all the single choices off "Split" seemed strange to me when there were more accessible songs like "Lit Up" and "Lovelife" that would have done much better, at least in the U.S. As I recall, "Split" was met with disdain by critics at the time, which I still do not understand.
I agree with you on that comment 110%. Split is my favorite album by them. I love how it was so experimental in terms of song writing and some of the songs are just so beautiful such as "Lit Up" and "Lovelife." And I've always thought those song should have been singles. Especially, "Lovelife." It is one of my favorite songs by Lush, but this song is still two thumbs way up.
Late reply, but I (retroactively, of course) never understood the absolute fascination with My Bloody Valentine when Lush could demonstrate equal or better technical prowess with great songwriting. The U.S. can be weird in what contemporary hipsters choose to embrace.
@deussolinvictus, it all comes down to the production. listen to the guitar in 'soon' and tell me what lush guitar riff even comes close to that. lush is a great band, but it's hard to find any album, let alone a shoegaze one, that has mixing and production as good as loveless has.
@RegularSean91 Lush albums are far more consistent than My Bloody Valentine albums. Plus, I'd hope the mixing and production would be spectacular on Loveless, since it cost roughly $250,000, which almost bankrupted their label, and took over two years to make,
Actually this came out in 1994 at the same time as the Hypocrite EP and it always amazes me when given a choice to vote between these two tracks on radio chart shows, most people always chose Hypocrite over this gem.
If I track lasts for 7:30 minutes and you everytime to listen to it you cannot tell its really that long....thats how you know its something quite special....
If you let it....it just takes on beyond space and time....
The instrumental part that serves as a bridge from 3:45 - 4:50 is an amazing achievement by itself....
This is actually similar in instrumental / vocal ratio as Slowdive`s Primal and Ride`s Leave Them All Behind.....approx. 75-25%....
Me too. This is from the CD, though. I personally think thia and For Love are two of my favorite EPs. White Word is brilliant and Girl's World is such a touching song.
Hands down this has got to the absolute best song lush ever composed.Emma and Mikki's dual guitar playing is angelic and flawless. There voices are a duet of uncompromising beauti that can't be matched by no other women. For me this band will be whole heartedly missed.Truly eunique they where.

4AD founder Ivo once said to Emma if he could write a song as good as Desire Lines he could die a happy man.
