Best vid I've watched on youtube in a long while. A true hero and gentleman. Wish there were more like you. Well done and tons of respect to you for such a selfless act.
Why do you say "never take things into your own hands"? If you see someone in danger and you can help, and there's no other help around, I think you absolutely *should* take things in your own hands. I'm glad not everyone shares your philosophy on that one.
Basically an elderly woman tried to snorkel and was weighted down with all her gear and started to struggle. This video shows B.Smith rescue here on his long board.
Thanks for that - actually many other surfers and beach goers ignored the struggling woman and when we pulled her out it was clear we did the right thing - she would have died.
But Brendan did catch her out of the corner of his eyes and was brave enough to take action.
The lifeguards were alerted and came in with paramedics and all turned out for the best.
It is scary when something happens people just stand there, watch and do nothing. All you have to do is tell the lifegaurd. You are not doing CPR. BTW was this real or a set up. Good job for doing the right thing if it was fake or real.
There was a woman struggling out there to far to swim back as it turns out she was snorkeling and was around 70+ years old. She had been out there for hours and that's when we took action and pulled her in. The life guards came in with paramedics and brought her to the hospital.
nope not fake, my brother was with me getting ready to film the sunset when we noticed the woman way offshore. She was older and weak from drifting out there for a long period, fox news and the local san diego news covered the story the following day - not fake, we were just there at the right time and she needed help.
Luke my brother thanks for posting the video. I'm just glad we were there to help the lady out. If you were not on the beach making sure i was OK swimming out there this could have been bad.
Thanks for the support -- By the time the 911 call was made the swimmer was on shore - there is little doubt that she would not have lasted long. Also there is a time towards the end where the camera was in the water submerged in my suit as I grabbed the long board as Brendan pulled the swimmer to the stairs. Then there was a team of professional life guards and Paramedics at the house to make sure she was ok - this was not on caught on video.
Great job!

Most heroes simply do what they think any one else would do, the right thing.
It is sad so many ignored her for so long. But people like you give me hope for humanity. I tip my hat to you in respect. -signed another lifeguard

Brendan - I know - We almost did not notice the lady and I am glad we did and that you made it out to her before it was too late.
I have lots of emails from back home in New York and everyone is happy to see that east coast saved the day :-)
