    Wow. Beautiful poetry.

Still watch Tourfilm a lot, they were so inspiring and energetic on the Green tour. We'll never see the likes of these guys again. They'll forever be lodged in my heart.

  • It's easy to belie e if u close ur eye s when u listen to th is that modern/alt rock is somehow this god like google like entity that helpt to keep things pure and honest. Certainly stipe fronted this well.

  • Trust in your calling, make sure your calling's true

Think of others, the others think of you

Silly rule golden words make, practice, practice makes perfect,

Perfect is a fault, and fault lines change.

    Unbelievable

  • It is a bittersweet moment as I think about the things in life that have made the most profound impact in our voyage. As we say goodbye to R.E.M., I am forever grateful for the space that they could only fill in my soul. Sometimes I have thought about my life as Pre- and Post- R.E.M. Michael, Peter, Mikey and Bill, I too was nervous when the lights were bright.

  • @roy1822 thanks. i feel the same way.

  • @TomRAFC The Tourfilm movie also filmed in Macon,GA,

  • @GAdawgsfan93 cheers for the info =^>

  • Its from their 'Green World Tour' which was around '89 couldn't tell you the venue as it was from various shows, I've a vhs of it they officially released called Tourfilm. They was so special back then, I'll always love them even now they're older.

But for most that was their peak, they'd been on IRS then moved up to the big boys at Warners. A move which payed off for both party's as they went on to have good commercial & creative success.

  • HEY! Remember? Oh the fun and profundity. I was there. Were you?

    Semper Fudge

  • Boah Alder! Was I a big R.E.M. fan when I was 14. I was a serious destiple and all. LOL!

    Still like'em!!!

  • It's not a poem that he opens with, it's a song called Future 40'S (String Of Pearls)

  • American smiths?

  • @evilnarc Yes

  • @evilnarc Well, at least Stipe didn't wave around flowers on stage. Music wise, they're very similar.

  • I Believe. REM Abu Thanks for the memories.

  • Saw them play this live in the green tour , Boston, MA. Amazing performance.

  • i don't care what you call REMs best album because i believe is probably the single greatest composition of all time regarless of whatever album it's on

  • @michaelstipefan777 That's a bold statement. I def would say it's one of the greatest songs ever; I could squeeze it onto my top 20.

  • i don't care what you call REMs best album because i believe is probably the single greatest composition of all time

  • 1. Reckoning

    2. Fables

    3. Murmur

    4. Life's Rich Pageant

  • this is R E M at their best

  • life's rich pageant is probably r.e.m.'s second best album behind reckoning.

  • Thanks for sharing this incredible performance. Absolutely amazing. I don't have the words to explain how this song moves me.

  • I like his weird moves at 3:27 and following.

There is so many of these introvert showmanship on the Green Tour video. It's so great, he's never been better than on this tour.

  • I'm yours, Michael.

  • Wow- amazing!

  • It does have a bit of the down south revival tent feeling.

  • As good as it gets...

  • This was my first concert. What a way to start! Amazing.

He sang Future 40s totally alone on the stage with only the spotlight. Still gives me goosebumps!

  • I believe .... they are young and oh so full of hope.

  • Michael Stipe is a genius

  • @seksy6 Agreed!!!

  • when i heard this song i fell in love with rem.

  • Have they released this on DVD? So fucking good.

  • At their height and when I fell in love with them. Still my favourite band. The greatest ever..

  • The snippet of the song he sings is from Future 40's by Syd Straw.

  • @snowcrash68 Thank you very much! Very cool stuff.

  • The part he sings right after the poem is a bit of "When I Was Young", unreleased (but wound up on the track listing of "Fables"

  • could this song intro be better? :) I don't think so.......Hey man I'm making mooooves.... :)

  • This is perfection right here

  • @sergeantfan I cant add anything to that.

  • I remember this tour. I saw it in Chicago.Robyn Hitchcock opened. God, what a show! So awesome.

  • "R.E.M. is best rock band in America" - Rolling Stone

  • What is this? A shiver came quick, grabbed me up by the back of the neck, and shook me down to the floor, through my shoes, through the floor, to core of the earth. I muttered something, swallowed some air. Science, miracles, monkeys, or prayer, Ill believe in anything when Im there Im certain Ive said that before. • At their peak and beyond logical emotional description. Cant explain how and why but they were indeed the best damn thing ever.

  • Who knows.. The sense of wonder in their lyrics, the chiming Rickenbacker tones, beautiful vision. There's definitely something so beguiling about their Green mood era that reaches out to you, disarms you with poetry and hits you with blinding sublime melodies

  • The world is made more beautiful because of this band. They are just so great live.

  • "Practice, practice makes perfect, perfect is a fault, and fault lines change..." Simple. Beautiful.

  • Best band of the world.

  • It is my ultimate goal to someday see R.E.M.

  • Make sure you do,when possible.Sound even better live than recorded.Concert at MENA in '99 on, initially, unscheduled 'Up' tour greatest concert I've ever seen.

  • They were fantastic in Sheffield in England, 2005. Had to postpone gig as Mike Mills was in hospital. On the cancelled night, Michael and Peter played a short accoustic set to say thanks for coming. Such great memories they came and planted with us

  • As I've stated on previous post in direct relation to this,It was the greatest live musical performance I have ever seen. The stand out track for me from the 'short acoustic set' was 'Ive Been High' - faultless both musically and vocally, unfortunately the rescheduled concert did not live up to this.

  • I wish they would tour in Arizona. I would be the first in line!

  • It would be well worth the wait as was the wait of myself to be at the front of the queue for the 1st time I ever saw them 'live' in 1995 in order to be at front of crowd at,what was,Huddersfield McCalpine Stadium. Can't believe they've never toured in Arizona as they've toured most places throughout world.Get to see them as close as,regardless.

  • I feel bad for people who aren't inspired by music. REM fucking RULE!!!

  • Classic REM!

  • Seeing R.E.M. live is an unforgetable and awesome experience... got the chance to see them in Mexico in November last year... One of my dreams came true that day:)

  • Wonderful film all around. All around and should there be a dash there? You guys reign, dears, All-around? Dash or no? Well dasher knows. And what does he know? He's dashing, that's what. Wonderful film, allaround.

  • a few ;o

he was balding at the time

  • phenomenal... i never tire of this band... Bad A**'s...

plus the FUTURE40s(string of pearls) intro is a true gem.

    thank you for posting this...

  • Incredibly good. I will never tire of Tourfilm.

  • Michael recites a poem and then they all launch into an incredible version of I believe. I couldn't say it better.

  • Looking at these vids, they have even more depth than I believed. And this is only of the great songs from the best REM album and one of the best albums ever.

  • NIce SYd Straw song there!

  • Yes the voice.... I am so thankful he has been able to share his wonderful talent with so many of us. Fabulous...

  • the voice.....

  • One of the best REM songs from the best REM album. Mmmmh. I feel young again!

  • like a trip back to high school. tourfilm is the absolute king. nice inclusion of Syd Straw's "String of Pearls" at the beggining.

  • Absolutley the best. REM forever!

  • Tourfilm is the best R.E.M. show on film ever made. Ever.

  • Oh my goodness...I wish I'd know before Losing My Religion that this band is the best in the world. * sigh * I wasted so much time not being in LOVE with them...

  • brutalmente puro!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing REM live in Omaha back in 1990. I was an aquointance of the band before that day. Since that day I have been such a huge fan of their undying passion and committment to make this world a better place. Long Live REM!!!

  • My god, this is incredible.

  • LIVE r.e.m. IS MY CRACK!!please please, more!

  • It's lifted from Tourfilm, you should be able to get it on Amazon no problems!

It is a great song, although all the songs from LRP play very well in show, Begin the Begin and These Days rock with a real passion.

  • this one belongs to legend

  • So much venom here!! just amazing. Age has obviously taken alot of it away., but R.E.M. are still such an amazing force!

  • Thanks for the post...I went to this tour's show...and things were never the same for me musically. Definitely at the top of their game.

  • This is sacred.

  • Ich glaube immernoch an D.F.!

  • the into poem is an excerpt from yd straw's "Future 40's String of Pearls. I like Michaels version better LOL

  • Spoken word + beautiful song

    Awesome

  • My historyteacher in the 7th grade gave me a videocopy of the whole concert and i don´t know, how often I have watched this video,I think it was in 1990 or 1991.

I loved REM in those times and i still love them today, for me,they are one of the best. Thanks for putting it in,it makes think about when I was young ...

  • I hope they start playing this again on their upcoming tour, it would be awesome

  • I'm not a religious man but, if by some chance, we are, as a species, asked to give account of ourselves, I'd proffer this as the answer.

  • @easypeesyjapanese

    indeed.

  • LOVES TOURFILM

  • mamma mia cos'erano i rem anni '80

  • practice.

    pratice makes perfect,

    perfect is a fault,

    and the fault lines change.

this is the first song that got me into music.

like someone was singing, just to me.

    thanks for the post

  • me too, man. I was eleven when my dad showed me the video of this concert and it set of the tuning fork in my belly that I've been chasing ever since.

  • NICEEEEE!!

  • This song and "These Days" off of Life's Rich Pageant" are two of the best live R.E.M. songs ever. Anybody who's seen them do these songs live would agree. See Tourfilm for lots of great stuff like this.

  • This clip makes the hairs on the back of my eyeballs stand up. Awesome.

  • i love love love this

  • rocking for a free world..

    thx & best wishes

    terra aid networks

  • I just bought Tourfilm, and I was watching it and this song came on! I didn't know it was on there. I absolutely love this song and this version of it especially, so it was just wonderful.

  • This is so incredible. Where'd you get this?

  • el mejor grupo de la historia

  • Another response from the RIGHT wing.... I think these guys are awesome. Awesome voice, drums, shit I love these guys.....

    Lee

  • Awesome. They're the best the world ever will see.

  • the second part of the intro, "hey man i'm making moves and i am so much stronger than you, i am so much stronger, i'm much stronger than you..." is from syd straw's "Future 40's (String of Pearls)" that stipe sang backup on.

  • I'd love to see a collaberation with Michael Stipe and Harriet Wheeler, if that was ever possible. His voice lends itself to the alchemy of so many other people's music; Radiohead, Springsteen, Linda Hopper... its unreal!

  • One of R.E.M. songs...so one of my favourite song ever. Very intense!R.E.M.: my life!!!

  • Thank you for posting this!
