FYI-@Stephie-It is not infected because he went to the Doctor, it IS an infection to begin with. That is what it is, an infected cyst or boil. If it wasn't infected there wouldn't be a problem to begin with. Therefore, don't blame the Doctor....how about keeping it clean with soap and water and a dressing that actually KILLS the bacterial infection....hint...Acticoat/S­mith and Nephew is a kick ass dressing. Do some research and Good Luck!!

@luckyduckrn1970 It wasn't nearly as infected when I first went to the clinic. His poor practical care (dressings, gauze, keeping the incision open), was not addressed. I was not scheduled a revisit for check ups. The cyst closed, and got re-infected, much worse than It originally was before I went to the clinic. It was all I could do stand the pain, my mom just wanted to see if the cyst would open back up, not like we set up and planned to have a surgery her bedroom..

I'm sure that felt a lot better...but....You're taking a HUGE risk doing that....MRSA LOVES to live under the nails and on the skin. If you get an infection in that wound with MRSA you could be in a whole heap of trouble up to and including an ICU stay-or-death. Especially a wound that open to the bloodstream. No offense but that is an idiotic way to handle your cyst. And no gloves? No Betadine? Leave it to the health care professionals before you end up in a hospital bed. Seriously. Signed, RN.

go to the doctor.. i had one of these and it took a few weeks before i could even sit up. they had to do 4 surgeries to get it completely.. you dont even want to know how many years it took to fully close

@valleyjulie Hi, this type of cyst isn't cured just by draining as this type always requires surgery under GA to try to resolve an underlying sinus which can run deep into the body.

@ChristophersMum Yeah, I understand the procedure, but surgery is quite the expense. This particular cyst was "lanced and drained" but the doctor who operated, failed to fulfill checkups and further infected the cyst.. thus the thickness of the puss/blood.
