Glenn is the most epic character in that game in terms of back story and how he integrates with the rest of the game. Crono is kinda just... there. He's so iconic of the speechless main character persona which was really popular in that gaming era. The point being that the main character (Crono) is supposed to be you. In terms of usefulness in battle though, he's easily the strongest melee character (except for star level Ayla) and has the most destructive single tech magic in the game.
