I'm thinking about buying or adopting a mini dachshund puppy this summer. I live in an apartment, but I'll be at my parents' house (with fenced-in backyard) for the summer. Any tips/advice? (I had a dog during childhood, but since she was being toilet-trained, etc., when I was 4 years old, I don't really have experience housebreaking a dog.)

@moearly Hi well the main thing you need is patience! Take the puppy outside every hour and give a voice command (we use "Go pipi") and lots of praise when they go. Also take them outside as soon as they've eaten and/or woken up. If they sniff the floor or circle they need to go! We used a crate so that if you go out for a couple of hours you put puppy in the crate - they don't like to soil it. We use the crate at night too, but also I got up at 4am every night for a few weeks!!

@moearly when I had a puppy we did 2 hour cycles. Eat, go out, play, sleep, eat, go out, play, sleep... My puppy only peed inside twice and pooped once.

Ooo I got a mini Dachshund male from wales, my parents bought him from crazy lady with a farm full of them in the middle of freaking no where, I remember the Drive took us a couple of hours. She was literally a Crazy Cat Lady but with tons of dacksies everywhere.
