You know what amazes me (all the time)? It is all the YouTube engineers. Just read some of these bozo's comments. It's like they expect the Boeing engineers to read this and think "hey, that's a pretty good idea". What a joke. Just say "wow, that's impressive" or something like that. Keep your "engineering ideas" to yourself, please.
Mainly because at that stage the 777 AIrcraft itself was still being built, so they use another aircraft as the testbed, and whose flight dynamics have already been tried and tested, so that the engines performance on the aircraft can be accurately monitored. Hope that made sense :)
Then the boeing 747 would go into an overspeed as easy as hell. On this test flight, they cut the power on the smaller engines and the 1 GE90 flew this giant 747, by itself. So imagine how fast this plane would go if you had 4 GE90's on this aircraft.
Question, they put the A380 engine on a A340-300, why not the A340-600? And during the test flight of the engine, in my video, the middle landing gear was missing. So the wheels looked like A330 wheels.
Wow! A 747 with a GE90 engine! Someone else said the same thing once, the 747 can't have 4 because of the weight. Awesome Rolls Royce engine. And I thought the 747 engines were big, almost as big when I see GE90s on a 777. BUT I didn't know they were THAT big compared to the 747 engines...
Yep they sure are a huge engine, fit a small car in there no problems!! And they sound damn evil on takeoff. Makes the hair stand up on my neck every time, awesome stuff..
The 747 makes it look smaller to me because it is something big compared to something big unlike the 777 which is something big compared to something somewhat big if you catch my drift.
nah, its not a GE engine, its only got GE Aircraft Engines written on the side of the fuselage as well as the engine cowl. of course it is u dickhead.
How do they balance the plane with the uneven weight of that giant 777 engine and the other three smaller engines? By the way, are those all GE, Rolls Royce, or Pratt & Whitney Engines?
"Imagine if all four were 777 engines". Strange that you would say that too... : )
Pimp my 747 also please. Yeeehaw!. Use it to launch orbital vehicles! Yay! (@ thedreamliner2012)

Pimp my 747... And add a huge afterburner too, just for effect.

The 747 could be more powerful and efficent if it only used 2 777 engines..............HINT HINT BOEING!!!!!!!!!

@SirKamiloPL No it does not have 4 x 777 engines. They are far smaller and rated about about a third less power
Neanderthalmanny 7 months ago
@SirKamiloPL I will miss the loud 777-300 roar even though i haven't been on an 777-200 / 300 / 300ER.
Cathaydude 9 months ago
@SirKamiloPL I know! Its still big but the engines are more quiet

@SirKamiloPL no its from the 787

@Rsanson21 imagine it with 4 of those..... It will probably use less than half a runaway to takeoff!
yheman868 10 months ago
LOL yea imagine it with 4 of these :D

It should have been 2 GE90 engines on the 747

He might want to get that checked out.. Looks infected..
matthewmalk248 1 year ago
747-200 engines produce around 50,000 lbs thrust 777 engines produce around 112,000 lbs thrus, more than double.
Rsanson21 1 year ago
what ........ so 747+777=777+777?
markkloplepol 1 year ago
Haha that looks so wrong.
realramm 1 year ago
If four ge90 put on the 747.. the plane cruise speed maybe mach 1-1.20.. or maybe more..
lokman9800 1 year ago
@lokman9800 can you translate to knots?
markkloplepol 1 year ago
they claim that the GE90 was capable of maintaining the aircraft flying on its own !!! after the take off the other 3 engines shut down
vagos290189 1 year ago
Wow.. Very nice video. I didn't know they did these kind of tests!

is the biggest of them all 777 engine?
Johanski99 2 years ago 2
Indeed it is! 15 foot fan diameter! ALSO< the most powerful, going up to 115,000 lbs of thrust EACH!!

Epic 747 that would easily go overspeed

with its first flight in march 1970 almost 40 years old

ok thanks was just wonderin y they dnt put it on cus they r more poweful than the 747 current 1s right?
ConcordeCentral 2 years ago 2
they wanted to know how the engine would react in flight since the 747 normaly 4 engines if the test engien fails it can still fly
aznturtle1 2 years ago

ah lol well it was a good idea at first
thanks for feedback

Your welcome:)

not necessarily magnernj5
you are forgetting aerodymanics , fuilcapacity and the most important : material of the plane.
a 747 is not designed to go over 0,8 mach ( or what is it ? i am not sure).

they did the same with the a380s engine on an a340

LordBigDog 4 years ago
Some test planes have water ballasts in the fuselage which can be unevenly filled. Or they could fill one wing with more fuel than the other.
supermansam89 4 years ago 2
They just Reduce the power on that particular engine so it has a steady rate of power as the other engines do.
