My guess would be it was too difficult to engineer the plastic so that it swung up at the same time; it may have been too weak to design it without the extra bar.

Lest you forget, the gender of the Shinkenger themselves changed over the generations, so just because the current/18th generation has a male Red and a female Pink does not automatically mean their Origami will orient the same way or even change with each inheritance.

Many have commented the Samurai Megazord has slightly better proportions than the Shinken-Oh did. But that's really it's only good point over the Japanese version other than the price.
