i have to admit that certain people either get it or don't get it,,,,i used to just love Bergman, Montand, Perkins,,,etc b&w movies back in the 80;s when i was a teenager in Morocco while most the kids thought it was old and boring. I am glad that i an still mesmerized by this movie and music.... Definitely its not about age or time
This is definitely not your father's Brahms, but it certainly helped introduce me to Brahms and the classical repertoire, for which I am eternally grateful.
Thanks for the "heads up" about this theme & this movie, John! And thanks also for sharing those fascinating clips from this flick with me! I've seen it shown over the years on Turner Classic Movies but have never seen the whole film. CHEERS! :)
Extraordinary performance of Anthony Perkins and Ingrid Bergman, in a simple but apparently impressive drama by the interpretation; charming music. It brings many memories to me of my 23 years, today I am 72 years old.
I ordered the sheet music for harp from Lyon & Healy West...that's a company selling harps and related items...the harp sheet music could easily be used for piano, but you could probably find an arrangement specifically for the piano by googling. Let me know if you can't find anything. The music I have is Brahms Symphony No. 3 Third Movement which is the inspiration for the theme in "Goodbye Again"...what a beautiful, haunting melody!
If you love this piece you'll love its inspiration...Brahms Symphony No. 3, Third Movement...just beautiful, gut wrenching in all the right ways!...I'm learning this piece on the harp...so emotional, so beautiful!
I have loved this movie and this theme song since I was 22 in 1961 and was certain that the film was about me as Tony Perkins in love with Ingrid Bergman. Now, nearly, fifty years later, the theme song moves me mightily as it has for years on the soundtrack album I have long cherished. In 2008, nearly 2009, I feel sorry for young men who don't or cannot "get" the emotion of this music and this film. But then, times change. No regrets.
Goodness..this movie was so amazing. But the ending! WHY??!
