  • We had several where i lived

  • I rode on a stick shift bus before when I was in elementary school. The clutch on it caught fire in front of my house.

  • I havent ridden a Ford Amtran but I rode a Ford Ward built in 86. Along with GM Ward in the early 80s. And I did ride 3 International Amtrans and I rode one IC CE regarding the Ward/Amtran/International.

  • You are too easily amazed. I couldn't help but laugh at your reaction. I used to drive old buses like this all the time. hydraulic brakes, Wayne body (ours were 1979 S1700 with 345 gas). Yeah, the 1700 is probably a 5 speed non-auto synchronized trans mission. Which just means you have to double clutch or float the gears.

  • also the Thomas Ford is probably a 370-4V gasser

  • You should see if they'll trade that Wayne for your IH

  • I can tell you right now, the shorty originally came from here in Kentucky. Even so, that's an extremely rare combo.

  • That shift pattern is: R12345

  • At 4:23 what's the compressor on the firewall for? The reason i ask is i have one identical to that one that looks to be brand new and i'm curious if it would fill an air tank for use with a set of Hadley air horns i've got.

  • ive seen 5 speed buses there rare tho theres a bus near me thats lifted with like 12 inch tires lol

  • I don't remember any school bus I ever rode on that was an automatic.

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW OH MY GOD!!!

  • The 93 ford is either a Cummins or a New Holland engine. Ford quit using 8.2s around 88 or 89.

  • my district, growing up, was loaded with Wayne bodies of all brands, GM, IH and Fords. But no standards trannies. even the oldest ones, which were built during the later 70s. it's rare to find waynes now. waynes were diminishing in the past 10 years.

  • Whats the big deal? I rode one to school everyday for like 5 years

  • @bluebirdvision A stick shift bus is rare for around here. I never rode on one.

  • @ns9987 I never rode a stick shift school bus either. Everything I rode was Automatics. I dont remember if the Loadstar Carpenters were Automatic but I think they were. But everything else was automatic. I have seen a few years ago a church in my county has stick shift school buses. I dont know if they still do or not.

  • Wow, you rarely see 8.25-20s.

  • AmTran's predecessor was Ward. Laidlaw/First Student was a big buyer of these buses. AmTran is now IC Bus.

  • The school district across the river from me use to run Wayne/Fords and Wayne Internationals till they stopped making them in the 90's. Also there was a few at my school back in the early 90's. One of my favorites next to Blue Bird.

  • My experience with a stick shift school bus was back in the mid to late 80's here in NC. It was a Thomas Body Chevrolet C-60 (model year ?), numbered 181, that had a 4-speed transmission. In the 4th grade they retired 181 to a substitute. That year the new bus, which was a International with an automatic Allison Transmission, had transmission problems. We got 181 back for the time it was out. The funny thing is I remember how the bus used to sound back then to this day.

  • The Wayne is from Kentucky... Black school district field with white lettering is KY spec, and stickshifts were not uncommon in KY thru the 90s. The red thing under the hood by the tire was a fuel/water separator.

  • Wow great video, but you just walked into someones else's bus... :o?

  • @ZuberZoftStudio Thanks! And I know the people. =D
