Tried to post that before, but it looks like it's the same elephant as in the " "special" elephant " video here on youtube.

With such deformed hind legs (genetic abnormality?) I really see no way on how he could have lived a normal life.

Maybe he was going into puberty and had to leave the herd.

The elephant has deformed or severly injured hind legs. The hyenas saw an opportunity and took it. In the end they probably did the elephant a favor by ending what could have been a long and slow death. This elephant obviously could not keep up with the family herd and was left behind. Such is the reality of nature. The statement of "only the strong survive" in its truest sense.

Poor thing. I saw it under "special elephant" too. It's not crippled, but deformed. It was born with these legs, and this would have caused serious problems later on anyway. It's still remarkable though, that it almost made it into adulthood, to judge by it's size.
