There is only one rational reason an officer of the court would want a public trial censored...because it would expose the judges and numerous public dole prosecutors and private attorneys perverting the thing we once called 'law'. Yeah to defend the privacy of the accused as well.
Well, maybe the courts would reconsider what was worth trying in an open court, if the We The People were also presented with openly available dockets.
...Everyone would be better off if these trials weren't being really decided "behind the scenes" by a bunch of people who memorize tyrannical laws and claim some kind of legal providence in their behalf, and hide the truth, letter, and spirit of the law from the public.
Good job Dave, keep up the good work, and may you have a very happy life forever, I wish I could be a NH freestater, but I can't right now, maybe later.
Don't know much about this case, but there are other cases in other prison settings where captives died due to negligence of the facility personnel. See the case of Marcia Powell.
Often it takes an inordinate amount of time for outside paramedics to retrieve a patient from the prison. Thanks to security and regulations, five-plus hours between occurrence of injury, regardless of severity, to arriving at an actual hospital isn't rare. In the case of a heart attack, that could spell death.
Two primary reasons...first, he was there for roughly six months. Second, he apparently died of a drug overdose.
What are the odds he would have gotten a bad batch of drugs, or taken them in the same manner, if he'd been out and about? Even if he was a druggie he'd have been dealing with different dealers and probably better health conditions, less desperation, etc.
Most novels have a hundred thousand words or more.
The Dark Tower series by Steven King easily has millions of words. That doesn't stop people from reading it. 5 million is a big number. If you're talking about miles, or dollars, or people, or pounds. I wouldn't expect for a person to be able to lift 5 million pounds.
It's a lot of words too, but is certainly not beyond the capability of the average person to read.
If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law. ~Winston Churchill
Where you find the laws most numerous, there you will find also the greatest injustice. ~Aristotle
Here's some context: The best laws we have are the Ten Commandments and the US Constitution's Bill of Rights. Both consist of only ten laws. How many words are in each of these documents and how easy, relatively, are they to understand and adhere to? Legalese is unnecessary and often dangerous to liberty.
The Ten Commandments are a padded list, deliberately and artificially inflated to get it up to 10. A 5000 year old marketing scheme. George Carlin has more on that.
I don't think the 10 commandments is really relevant to a discussion about laws.
I agree that pointless laws banning puppetry and cleaning up trash before 6 am are bogus and should be repealed.
I also agree that laws should be easy to understand and adhere to.

Dave,
Can you elaborate on why you believe the guy who died in the jail would be alive if he was not in the jail.
On an earlier Ridleo it was reported that the man overdosed on a drug. Is that accurate?
How would that have been prevented or mitigated outside of jail more so than it was in jail?

Good point. But also throw in the time it takes to fully comprehend spoken word in a novel vs. legalese.
