  • This is the sorter shit people watch befor there sent into a mental home! Aha ;) good point though

  • What a bullshit video....

All the information about all particals in our world can only be stored in a container that is atleast as big as all those particals together.

You can call virtual reality whatever you want, but it ain't timetraveling in any sort of way and you certainly won't control time as stated in the video.

Where does the idea come from that a simulated character would have a selfconsciousness?

Lots of assumptions based on nothing if you ask me....

  • This question is much older than the computer age in greek philosophy people asked the same question :D

  • Seriously, of course we exist. This is what kinda questions come up when people send most of their time on computers.

  • @kahf2 PROVE IT!!!!!!

  • this is the truth in one word,,,,jus figure it out,,,,,,,"mind"

  • That's the ultimate dilemma/question for which there is no answer, we can not prove that we exist , nor can we prove that we exist

The same goes for the existence of God we can neither prove nor disprove that God Exists:D

  • now i feel like iam nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THE BIG QUESTION ABOUT THIS IS IF WE ARE LIVING IN SIMULATION COULD WE GET OUT OF IT AND GO TO THE REAL WORLD OR ARE WE SO FAKE WE CANT!

  • @knowlegdeispower100

Yes, we can get out of simulation...but only after our death ... I think the real life starts after death ...:) Now we are just part of computer game "Life on the Earth" :-)

  • @Leldis or you can meditate

  • I think these guys have been watching too much of the Tron and Matrix movies.

  • Of course we are real.....We are here aren't we? What rubbish is this?

  • how can you prove that you are real????, you can't

  • @indigospirit44

How can you prove that you or I are not real? You can't

  • this is the same type of unfalsifiable hypothesis as religion, speculation brought on by spurious assumptions. Occam's Razor dictates that we should not pay attention to things such as this until we have evidence to suppose that it is the simplest assumption. And further Descarte's, "I think therefore I am" is a rather appropriate response to this as well.

  • I swear these Singularity Institute guys smoke weed all day man... they take shit so far out there

  • Comment removed

  • Shit did you record this with you phone??

  • i wanna live in minecraft then

  • @TheNephew31 I wanna live in GTA SA

  • The woman at the 3:33 mark has nice boobs

  • @Spikebert you are too easily pleased my friend

  • Doctor Who music?

  • Where they high when they thought of this?

  • WE ARE REAL!!!

  • biggest load of shit ever, that would mean that EVERY SINGLE ATOM AND EVERY QUARK IN THE UNIVERSE is a simulation, hahaha no i dont think so.

  • If this is a simulation, and the simulation is exactly the same as real life, who the fuck cares?

  • Dumb

  • so if we are copies then the future people have copied us thinking we are copies right? how does that work, or do we freely think about what we are even tough we are programs ? DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

  • wow this fucked me up

  • The galaxies are just programs on god's start menu... The universe is the OS...

  • To do is to be.

    - Socrates

    To be is to do.

    - Plato

    Do be do be do.

    - Sinatra

  • huh

  • This is pretty convincing I do have to admit. So I might be a copy of a past me? Scary!

  • LOL THE SIMS!

  • :O !!!

  • @Pinage when you say "I think" you already pre-suppose the existence of the "I". To modify Descartes we can say "Thinking is existing" or "Thinking is occurring".

  • Looks like someone played a bit too much Assassin's Creed.

  • "I think therefore I am." Copy theory disproven.

  • in a way i hope im a simulation that way the real me is still alive and the world hasnt ended for something !

  • rdrddrrdrddrrdrd

  • rdrd

  • It would not be a real version of the past but rather a ficticious version.I am almost certain that i am not a simulation

  • It would not be a real version of the past but rather a ficticious version

  • mental immature masturbation... :/ this is so much not scientific, but artistic approach

  • "They'd do it using virtual reality"

    Monster Hunter?

  • 5:18 caught my attention. The thought didn't even cross my mind as they were talking about the simulation.

  • i think therefore I am????

  • @gatorbroe Great, then after almost 400 years all our doubts give us only a certainty...to think(and i dare to say to feel) is the only sense we can "touch"....anything else can be true or false but surely has no sense...

Sorry my intrusion but your few words have had a wonderful influence on my full of angry doubts rainy morning;thanks again!!

  • Does it matter if we are simulated or not ? What are the advantages of the beings who simulated us ? Maybe they'r dead ! All this means is that we are in a universe which is'nt real anyway ! If, according to many teachings, the universe isnt real..then those super beings who created us wern't real themselves-were they?

  • @brindow1 not necessarily. The teachings teach that this universe isnt real, we do not know what is outside of i. In fact according to us there is no outside. So we are limited in reality by this universe and its rules. Those beings may be outside of this system. Think of the universe as a computer programme. The operator is outside the computer itself.

  • i would go back in time and stop the making of ms vista

  • good question.

  • What is this documentary called?

  • I think this technology would go good with Universe Sandbox.

  • The Flood was here and we don't approve this...

  • 240p. We meet again........

  • @InfiniteFuntime no. shut up. this video is 4 yeas old. SO STFU

  • I love the doctor who music at the end

  • DOES NOT COMPUTE!

  • The reason science hates this theorie is because it has strong spritual implications.

  • so even if were projections of some property space time mechanical relationship between time, space energy, and matter does not mean the universe is a simulation, it simply means that were on the other side of space time where we can only detect that matter appears to disapear into nothingness the closer we study it because were looking at it from the projected state as time slices of something that were not getting a full examination of.

  • no simulation required it is simply a component of how atoms stay consistant with time space.

no alternate universes required, not omni univeres required, this theorie simply says that in order for for matter to track with time and consistanly stay in phase with it the atom is destroyed and recreated in time slices to stay in sinc with the passage of time.

  • if an object were not being project or reflected into our space time continiously it would disapear from our point of view one second it is there then the next is gone, if somethings out of phase wit time we can not percieve it's existance.

So in order for something to exist within our universe it has to be tracked by time, the reason atoms disapear and reappear is because they winked out of existance and were replaced by an identical atom confusing the observer into thinking it came back.

  • how this works is like this, an atom has a finite period of time it can exist in our universe and to appear to exist it must exist in time slices like the pages of of a animated cartoon the atom expires disapears forever and is replaced by another time slice from a higher dimension of time space where matter and ebnergy are interchangable and both dimensions are qauntumly entangled together as space time we know we just can't see the other side of it.

  • not a simulation, lets say they need to figure out time and how matter is tracked by time to stay in existance.

  • Quite simply, we arent simulations because we are sentient. So the theory in this video is complete ass.

  • Blue Screen of death.

Windows XP has had an unexpected shutdown.

    Everyone is dead.

  • one of the most craziest science theories ive ever heard

  • 3:34 Fuck yeahhh

  • If we were realy but a simulation of our ancestors past, it would mean our ancestors taught they were simulated once to, wich means if this was true, our so called ''ancestor/simulators/originals copies'' arnt soo much a head of us by time, wich would make the ''making simulated civilisation toknow the past'' theory would fail, considering they would already know their past, but us being simulated still has to be looked at, but not exactly as the video says not ''exact copies''

  • If we were realy but a simulation of our ancestor past, it would mean our ancestor tought they were simulated once to, wich means if this was true, our simulaters arnt far a head of us, considering they cant take a realy long time from now (as in our time considering we are the exact copies of our simulators) till they find a way to make an exact copy of themself in computers, wich means the theory of ''making copies of themselfs to know bout their past'' fails

  • What if this is a computer simulation? There is a minimal length and time, which makes everything calculatable.

  • So they are just sitting there watching people get raped and killed and die slowly of disease while they take notes? I doubt that, we are not a simulation.

  • @Citigroup100 Never played sims or roller coaster tycoon and killed or messed around with these people, just for fun? If it's 'just' a simulation, why would you care what happens in it? And it's a perfect simulation, good and bad things included... Not that i really believe in it, your argument is just wrong ;)

  • @comateur wow you are a complete idiot. The sims are not sentient you idiot. If they were feeling beings there is no ethical way you could just watch them burn for fun. You are an ignorant moron.

  • @Citigroup100 You don't get my point... They're talking about a simulation of real life. In real life there is pain, murder, rape etc like you say. So if they want to make a perfect simulation of the world, why wouldn't they include that as well? It wouldn't be the same as real life, that's just the point of it. I know the sims haven't got any feelings, it's just to show that even if they had, nobody would care, cause it's just a program that you could shut down anytime. Impolite fuck.

  • @comateur "In real life there is pain, murder, rape etc like you say. So if they want to make a perfect simulation of the world, why wouldn't they include that as well?"

Because it harms other feeing beings you ignorant, narcissistic, evil, piece of filth.

  • @comateur “I know the sims haven't got any feelings, it's just to show that even if they had, nobody would care, cause it's just a program that you could shut down anytime. Impolite fuck.”

All intelligent people would care. The only people who wouldn’t care would be sociopaths like yourself. You think its fine to harm sentient beings as long as you can kill them anytime and you call me impolite. Your ignorance is on a level with Hitler and other tyrants.

  • @Citigroup100 Ever tried to finish a sentence without cursing like a retard 16 year old little bitch? "You think its fine to harm sentient beings as long as you can kill them anytime" wow, talk about being miles next to the point and putting words in my mouth. I have to admit that if they're really sentient beings, harming them would be as bad as harming human beings. But the fact stays that most people are not gonna see things that way and still see the simulation as just a program.

  • @Citigroup100 and again, forget about that sims thing. Thats totally not the point. My point is : these simulations would have been made to reenact the real world EXACTLY as it is to go back in the exact same past as our world. So if they would leave out all the bad things, that world would be totally different than ours and be totally useless for its purpose. That's why they would leave all the bad things, just like the real world. Getting my point, or are you just gonna act childish again?

  • @comateur You are not getting my point. My point is that no intelligent beuing would do these type of experiments because they are far too unethical. It would be more unethival then the nazi's medical experiments since they are included. The fact that you can't understand why intelligent beings would never to such an experiment to gather data proves you are a sociopath.

  • @Citigroup100 Well, ethical or not, you can be sure that if this is a way to go in the past, scientists will do everything to achieve this. Not that this has stopped them before, just like you said. And if that world is really exact the same than ours, can you really describe it as unethical to create it?

  • @comateur "can you really describe it as unethical to create it? "

Yes, very unethical, it seems ethics might be beyond your ability to understand.

  • @Citigroup100 I get your point, i really do... But recreating the exact same world we live in Isn't unethical in my eyes, cause that's just how life is... But I'm tired of this conversation. You got your point of view, I have mine... But the fact stays that if they could do something like that, they absolutely will do it.

  • @comateur It is the goal of all rational people to live in a world without filth like you.

  • they already make up history, why not make it up in a virtual reality..

  • So I guess Hollywood isn't the only place filled with fake people...

  • so lets all just loot if we're fake :D

  • *so fuck

  • more likely ur all autonomous largely self aware bots in a simulated reality to teach me a lesson, but i don't feel like learning the lesson to fuck u all nvm how much they repeat this shit :p

  • time travel is stupid.. it's for losers who want to live in the past.. get over it.. and live your most in the present... regardless.. your spirit can not be copied by a computer.. the way you feel .. this is nerds who don't have lives and want to live in the past when their mothers were holding them.. fuck that.. live now.. who cares, when you die, you're not going to return, everything changes, this is true physics, you can never return to the same state of the past.. give up this stupid dream

  • @xaiesque12 immature scientist and wannabe internet scientist, just buy me a beer when you see me.. though you'll probably never see me.

  • @xaiesque12 why did youw atch this video, smartass -_-

  • Can somebody give me the name of the documentary please?

  • i know it appears a bit scary. Some one telling you that you dont exist. In reality you and the world that you live in is a 3 dimension Holographic projection. Science is slowly veering to this idea but the Sages/ Holy men of ancient years have alway maintained that this world is unreal. This idea was explored in the movie "The Matrix". If you are really interested in this please study The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi. You can get all the information on the internet itself. Best of Luck.

  • Wow... what the hell?

  • far fetched at best

  • 3:36 tits or gtfo!

  • if you look closely at 4:45, you see a smileyface in the background.

    lol im so high

  • watching too much matrix lol

  • i don't give a fuck if i actually exist or not. also this isn't a new idea, google "brain in a vat"

    good fight bbc.

  • This is BS... Bad Science.

Why would creators of a virtual world about our ancestory give us all real working brains?

  • @IntelligentForce How would you know that you have a real working brain?

What do you really know about thinking?

Just this comment kind of proves you have an even less working brain than most.

  • @IntelligentForce i slap this chick on the ass and she punched me in the face, wtf kind of virtual world is this.

  • errmm does it really matter if we're real or not? 90% of matter is nothing so .... XD

  • OH SHIT, SON. THIS MEANS THAT YOUTUBE IS A PERSON.

  • This is BULLSHIT, I think we are living in a virtual reality but we are spirits incarnated in this virtual reality, we will always exist

  • This is BULLSHIT

  • Trevor Moore is a very cool guy!! And sexy! :3

  • Does this theory assume the future civilization would be just as dumb as we are? Not super, but super technology with a bunch of dump people recreating the past in current space/time just for shits and giggles.

  • TREVOR MOORE sent me :)

  • trevor moore sent me here

  • me thinks this reminds me of source code

  • Until I was 14 years if age I was raised in a cult in a part of the world with no knowledge of any modern civilization. This was somewhat of the same concept. When we were rescued I realised that the actual year was 70 years ahead of what we were told. They were trying to create this alternate reality. Only comparison would be living like the Amish if they never could see, read, use a telephone or know that technology was happening all over the world.

  • @BennyB5555 wow

  • You can see this in action with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Voyager. It's called the fictional "holodeck" =) This is why Star Trek was an amazing show and still is because it's our future. We are destined to start our own federation of planets. I hope to see it one day.

  • martix much? the exception to the laws of the martrix was neo is Jesus our exception???

  • Great I am made up from bits and bytes and god is the computer with the devil been the computer virus O_o

Nice concept but then again who created the computer at the beginning?

  • @elchingaoAKAelpalito Apple!... PAY ATTENTION!

  • @LaZyLuke Then who created Steve Jobs, Stephen Wozniak and Mike Markkula? The M-5 computer? .. yep is an endless cycle.

  • @elchingaoAKAelpalito you are aware that this "Nice concept" of "god is the computer" and "the devil been the computer virus" is purely made up by you? because I didn't see anything about any of what you mentioned in the video.... and if you want me to continue mocking you- Apple was not created, S.Jobs, S. Wozniak And M. Makula are made up by the Apple super computer to make it understandable to us!

  • @LaZyLuke They may not have been mentioned in the video but they are sure part of our everyday presence in this world aren’t they? You’re mocking no one. Why do you think there are wars, death and every horrible thing present here and then there is hope, the light and yes eventually love at the end? Would a computer do that? No way, life is more complex than that friend! Bye and have a good life and don’t let the viruses byte you O_o.

  • gta would be shit hot lol, if you felt like you were in the game and it all looked like real life

  • I feel that given the question.. the answer is plausible.. Why do we feel so compelled to explain our existence as though we are the very first creation.. Is it not possible that we have and always have been in existence..Is it so hard to concieve this.Things exist.. always.. and always will be..? To question this in itsself is a paradox.. unanswerable. Sad to recognise the fact.. Would be great to concieve the notion that we are the be all. End all.. Just not logical is all..

  • so..here's how I see it, only God is non-simulated and only God is real.. we are God's simulation...

  • Ok, I'm still waiting for my own personal holo-deck... It should have been here by now. It's 2011 for crying out load. We've got that whole "world ending" thing comming up just next year you know....

  • its good to know that we also see our future selves as doubting our own ability to keep records, what does that say and imply!!

clicks heals 3times, meh i suddenly feel jealous of the future.

  • Do we really exist? . . . yes, yes we do.

  • Doctor who anyone?

  • Weeee. Then we could create a simulated reality of a simulated reality, through a simulated reality.

  • @branduren what is reality?

  • @valfitness I think it's like a simulated reality, without the simulation part. :)

  • @branduren I didnt ask about any simulation part. why is it that your answer includes one. Try answering the question without being an asshole

  • @valfitness hehe. sorry, I didn't know you wanted a serious answer. "OED: In philosophy, reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined."

  • @branduren INCEPTION!!!!!!!!! O_O

  • @branduren Yo dawg! I heard you liked simulated realities, so we put a simulated reality in your simulated reality so you van be real with you're simulated.

  • @branduren Inception! D:

  • Comment removed

  • So do these super computers know emotions? Or is it the other way around and we don't know what real emotions are because we are merely simulations?

  • hi, which BBC documentary is this excerpt from?

  • does it even matter?! what we feel and see is real to us, there are no two people in the world who percieve reality exactly the same so does beeing a simulation realy change anything. i don't think so. we overlap in some areas but everybody has it's own world we live in, but i don't believe we are a simulation but a nice idea fresh theorys are what keeps us going, i do agree that there is only a small chance that computers will ever be fully able to mimic the procesess of a human brain

  • We have the free will to chose what we must chose.

  • Sure, it's a rational fear that living in a simulation would negate our ability to understand nature, but it's wrong. Has everyone forgotten the concept of a computer glitch? Computational systems are flawed, and frankly, if we're living in a simulation then all we should be worried about is bringing the simulation down and rising to the next level. Worried about the machines taking over? Perhaps we are the machines, perhaps we will take over. Just a thought.

  • Hey ther basicly saying that if you take a video of yourself and watch it some time later you just travled through time haaa wtf ever

  • Creative ideas such as these can make for good intellectual entertainment but do not amount to a persuasive argument. A seamless shift between the 'real' and the 'virtual' to the point of questioning the true state of one's self is flawed if not banal. It takes a little more than cognitive acrobatics to substitute reality I'm afraid :-)

  • If this were a simulation then why do we feel pain? Computers do not "feel" pain or joy (physical or emotional) even if you tell them to. They don't. A computer could mimic pain/joy, but it can't actually feel it. They simply operate until something disrupts their pattern of movement.

  • @miljo34 The idea is that you THINK you feel it. Everything is almost an exact replica as it would be in the outside realm. Pain would be integrated into the programming, it's all numbers and you would never know it.

  • Comment removed

  • lol, so we are game that being play, and whats next, when we advance to the future and create the same game like this? Or is this just an excuse to say that scientist can't never understand nature. Or they just smoke weed like Spitta said.

  • @Lidgoi

Increase in computing power is not the solution, we need a whole new framework of thinking. AI has not come up with anything special since it was created as a field. We need a whole new paradigm, not a blind belief in pure computer power. By the way scanning someone's brain, does it mean, also scanning their thoughts, memories, feelings and entire subjective experience? If yes, then you have a whole lot of explaining to do...

  • @Lidgoi

Scanning someone's brain and reproducing them in a computer simulation does not by itself equal an identical copy of that person. First of all this assumes many things that are not proven. For instance, how in the world is information even stored in the brain? How does the brain store and retrieve? How does the brain make sense of the data it gets to figure out what is a face and what is something else?

  • I think, therefore I am.

  • As a computer scientist I can just say, what a load of rubbish! Information processing does not equal thought generation...Stupid sensationalist..

  • @souciance YOU HAVE NO IDEA how powerful this future human civilization could have been. Who knows what kind of technology will be present at this time - even now were starting to program robots using artificial neurons, who's to say you couldn't scan someones brain and recreate them 100% perfectly in a virtual world given the right amount of power and knowledge.

  • inception

  • If you think this is `difficult` to comprehend, you should see a Horizon documentry screened some years ago on black hole and strig theory....I understood abou tthis much....`good evening, welcome to Horizon......

  • what if all of us on planet earth were created by someone else which sat infront of a screen and we werre virtual reality.

  • i think therefore i iz :)

I KNOW MY PHILOSOPHY MOTHERFUCKER !

  • Okay here is the deal everyone: while computers might be able to one day simulate reality they will never be able to simulate the human psyche. At the core of the human psyche lies contradiction. Human beings say one thing but mean another, they mean one thing but say another. You cannot program the contradictions of the human psyche into logical code. The barrier will always remain between mind and matter, the human psyche and computer algorithms. Simulation is not reality.

  • @walrusclothing

Please watch "The Transendent Man" It is a documentary about Ray Kurzweil about the expedential increase of technology. Also look at "predictions Made by Ray Kurzweil" on wikipedia. Computation will very EASILY be able to program the human psyche and in fact this will be a trivial and ordinary thing in the future. The fact that you are skeptical about this is understandable but im afraid you are dead wrong about this. Please just go watch this documentary...its on netflix

  • @walrusclothing - agreed, also, even if you had infinity, you could not make something digital become analogue. Therefore, computers will never ever be able to become like the analogue world of real life. No matter how detailed the digital reproduction may be to imitate the mind...it will never be the mind. Although the simulation may fool the humans because of the limits of human perception to observe all details of their existence, it will always lack something to make it on par with reality.
