That's just awesome that you played with JOE MAPHIS. That man was the ultimate guitar slinger. He imitated fiddle licks, by flatpicking guitar, and influenced bluegrass, country boogie, Honky tonk, influenced ( & was influenced by) Rockabilly, influenced surf music, everything. Only Maybelle Carter, & Merle Travis were as innovative on guitar.
Ive got a picture of Uncle Joe standing over me, playing the top neck, with me playing the bottom of his Double-neck Mosrite...Yeah, Joe was the man...Sure miss him...
Mickey, thank you for the great lessons. I am happy to have found you. I take lessons now and find your videos excellent as I can replay them over an over. I am playing a GFI U12 so I can play the low E as you recommend.
I was listening to Buck Owens' version just as I clicked on this. Buck's version is pretty darn simple as well, but he does it in Db. Love how everybody who ever covered it retains those Chuck Berry licks (even on steel). Great Lesson.
@Singlpilot Do you know how to play Cryin' Steel or Run Around?

@Singlpilot You know Chuck Berry wrote this, besides guitar, he did in fact play pedal steel, but not on this though

My first one with open strings - can a bar be too long and heavy...? After practising this it felt that way.
Sounds more than it is to play - like that! Tank you for teaching!

Man, I would have LOVED to have seen him live. How great of an experience it must be to play with him!

Mickey...I had to have a letter from the Judge even though my Dad was in the band.
Ahh...the late nights at the Moose Lodge, at the age of 10.
LOL !!! Good Times.
