Interesting that some people rap Taylor Hicks version. Taylor got permission to cover this and worked with Tom on it. I say if the writer approves of the artist to cover it.......its OK. Just as after winning Idol, Ray Charles; people had Taylor come to Rays studio, gave him some cufflinks and a tour etc. for reviving interest. No higher compliment than you can get from others in the business.

what a waste to have taylor hicks cover this song. I seen Tom play this live 5-6yrs ago when he opened for George Thorogood. When it was done EVERYONE was standing roaring with tears flowing. I said right there this is a number 1 song. Nobody knows Tom. So i said if he gave this song to some say Toby Keith or someone simular this song goes number 1. Now it has to be someone with the right voice to cover this. Tom does awesome. This song touches so many families that can relate 100%. Thanks Tom

@Angels941 It is an alright cover not great by no means. Good for sure. But this is a number one song and a number one artist should have recorded it. Tom Hambridge is an outstanding song writer. I just believe he needed to give this song to someone that actually has a career of their own not some contest winner. Just my opinion. I am not into american idol. All it is i just a glorified Karokee contest.

Hi, Taylor Hicks is not a Karaoke singer. He is a great singer, musician and performer. I have learned about other singer like Ray LaMontagne, Keb' Mo and others by hearing Taylor cover their songs. Taylor has been singing and performing for years before appearing on AI to have his voice heard. Established "artists" have appeared on AI to promote their albums. So, please do not deride Taylor Hicks for appearing on AI. Thanks!

I will have to go listen to Taylor Hicks version, I love his voice. Tom Hambridge also has a version on his new Boogieman CD. I'm a songwriter fan, I love to hear them sing their songs.
