  • Awesome!

  • Great lesson Mark

  • thanks mark

  • Very good tutorial Mark !

Also excellent the samples on Flickr for comparing the metering modes.

    I allways follow you.

    Regards from Buenos Aires.

  • with center weighted average metering if you hold the button halfway down, like center focusing, and move it to one side or the other (to conform to the rule of thirds) does it take the center weight when you pressed it halfway down, or is it diffferent than focusing?

  • my canon 50d got all of this metering functions..awesomeness tutorial! woohoo!

  • Thank you so much for the clear and informative video.

  • thank u for all the videos... i helped a quite lot of peaple... keep it up.....thnkx...

  • wow, what camera have matrix metering mode? I never see this mode before. I'm really curious what brand of camera has this now..

  • @aliasangelalias Hi there. Nikon d90 possess matrix metering. Happy Metering !!!

  • pphhhh Mets.. GO YANKEES

  • Great! You are a great teacher! I have learn a lot from your videos!

  • Great!

  • This is very awesome! I never learnt Metering very well when I did the photo course... thax a lot mate!

  • Should have used the Braves Hat GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey thanks Mark. I am wondering why camera manufacturers do not have the metering follow the focus point. Many great images do not place the subject in the center of the image. There must be a hardware limitation???

  • I saw all your videos from the very beginning: wonderful and very complete work! Great job!

After this great video on exposure a question came to my mind:

Let's say I have a TTL flash mounted on a camera and lock the metering (in spot mode) on a area and change composition. What will happen?

(I know that flash/camera use preflashes to predict exposure but they don't know where mine "correct exposure" is located since I've moved it)

    Many thanks for your answer!!

ps:I'm sorry for my bad english...

  • @krkuz - When you look through your viewfinder, compose your shot and press the shutter button half way, the focus will lock. However, in TTL mode, the exposure is NOT computed until the preflash fires. So if you recompose your shot, the TTL metering system will meter for the new area your square is now on. A better technique is to compose your shot FIRST, then move the square over the area you want to be properly exposed.

  • @rylabone how do you tell the camera to do TTL exposure without take the shot?

compose and move the area of exposure doesn't make the shot...

  • Great the video I was looking for, youy are the best, continue with this issue, it is very important to understand exposure, great job looking fowar to the next video.

  • i wish you author all the camera manuals, or write a "for idiots" book. you made everything so easy to understand.

  • Looks like Canon wins at the metering game after looking at the hat pictures! Interesting.

  • VERY very good articulation of a complicated subject! LOVING all these videos

  • As always Mark, great job!

  • Thanks Mark! Very informative. I'm looking at the samples on flickr and I can't really decide whats the best mode. It looks like spot metering will really wash out the background and pattern metering mode really under exposes the cap. So is it really up to personal preference?

  • Excellent info Mark going to share this video with my friend's on portadafotografica !!!

  • Good video! You set the bar in quality for this type of video! Really helpful!

  • thnks alot mark... i'll w8 for the nxt episode nxt week

  • Hey Mark! Thanks again, Great work!!

  • Hi Mark, cheers for the video.

    Can I suggest something?

This video tutorial is about photography, but you are almost always talking about the technical side of photography. What if you would make a few episodes on composition, perspective etc.

  • Thanks Mark and the team at Adorama for producing all the great educational videos, really appreciate it!

  • Seems that some pretty interesting episodes are coming up.

Thank you Mark, keep 'em coming!!!

  • Very good thank you Mark

  • You are very good teacher. Keep it up. All the best.

  • where can I find the pictures of the cap?

  • @jmalonear I added the link to the description.

  • hmm...interestin.

  • Thanks Mark.

  • great work, keep them coming!
