In the forth clip, where the keyboard is moving, that's completely normal. When you want to play pianissimo (very quiet) you move the keyboard and the mechanics with the left pedal a little bit to the right. The hammers are now only striking one string instead of three. The piano sounds quieter.

The incredible shifting keyboard? LOL! As I recall, the soft pedal shifts the action so that the hammers only strike one string. However, this does look like a very difficult piece.  Which etude is this?

@sdxn2400134 Rachmaninoff étude-tableau op. 39 no. 6, also known by the name "little red riding hood" :) It is a very difficult piece, and yes the soft pedal shifts the keyboard but why take it on and off continuosly like that? hmm. Alien keyboard. Well, alien player as well, it's a match...

I think it's amazing that the pianist actually blogs on here. It's thrilling watching this playing. Unfortunately I have a friend who aged 50, decided to learn to play the piano. After about three months I sent him a clip of Valentina Lisista playing a Chopin Etude and he gave up!!!

Horowitz' Tchaikovsky, Kissin's Chopin, and Lisitsa's Rachmaninoff. Sigh, I wish I was also a pianist. Not as good as them but good enough to play some easy pieces on my own :)
