Never done it but I heard in the PS3 or the xbox version, you get some sort of achievement thingy (you have to bring the tapes back to Reuben).

when you go to do the other part of the mission ( the original mission ) if you position yourself on a clif to the east side you can blow up the gas tanker thingy with the m-79 grenade launcher and be on ypur merry way without shooting anyone
