  • what episode is this from? season?

  • This was a nice moment. It was sweet for Toby to stick up for Sam, all the while screaming at him in the hallway and threatening to chain him to his desk! haha

  • Only the West Wing can have you LOL-ing and give you a warm fuzzy feeling all at the same time... :)

  • I love the familial vibe from the cast in these scenes right here: Sam the little brother who got himself into hot water, Toby the big brother who will stick up for Sam even if he thinks he's a total dumbass, CJ the big sister who does the same and takes care of him too, Leo the one parent cleaning up after Sam and threatening to give him a talking-to, and Bartlet the other parent taking care of everything, smoothing it all over, and reassuring Sam that everything's okay.

  • The West Wing is really a show about a family.

Aaron Sorkin will tell you as much, politics is sort of the background, but the actual story is about a family.

  • @grumpytosnowwhite Very true. But, you forgot one. I always looked at Sam and Josh as being a set of twins, with Toby as the older brother and CJ as the middle sister between "the twins" and Toby.

  • Of course! I feel the same way, it's just that I was talking specifically about this scene right here, and Josh wasn't in it, so I didn't mention him. You're so right about the big four being like siblings, but I would put Josh as older than Sam (Josh has classic middle-child syndrome, and Sam is so much the adored baby). However, there would be just a small age gap between him and Sam, then a big age gap between Josh and CJ, and then another small age gap between CJ and Toby.

  • @grumpytosnowwhite I agree with you. I just always saw Josh and Sam as twins. That whole incident with the fireplace, their general interactions, it was like they shared a brain.

Also, Sam was the only person, other than Donna, who could ever talk Josh down from "the edge" be it in the deposition scene when he almost slugged the lawyer, to the end when Sam stepped in to tell Josh he needed a vacation. No one else, not even Leo, had the ability to do that like Sam.

  • Very true :)

  • @grumpytosnowwhite I feel the need to point out that CJ was probably supposed to be only a few years older than Josh... given that Bradley Whitford (while, indeed, looking 10 years younger than his age) and Allison Janney are the same age in real life.

In the first season I would put Sam's age at the early 30s, Josh at about 35 and CJ at 40 or so. Definitely a larger age gap between CJ and Josh than Josh and Sam, but not very big either... at least not to me :)

  • @tussuduftid That's what I said -- sorry if I said it confusingly. CJ and Toby are close in age, and so are Josh and Sam, which causes the four to pair off into their respective best-friendships. And yeah, Josh is definitely a lot younger than Brad is in real life :)

  • there is no television like this anymore

  • In retrospect the fact that it's the London Mirror who took the pictures of Sam and the call girl is probably extremely appropriate

  • It almost seems like the president thinks of Sam like a son that got into some trouble. And as a good father he is going to help get him out of it. Also Toby is so funny!

  • well in real life, Rob Lowe lived on the same block as the Sheens/Estevezs. He grew up with Charlie and Emilio and was over at there house all the time. So the real life chemistry was certainly helped in the acting world.

  • I love how Barlett is taking the approach of "She's a law student who happens to be a prostitute" rather than "She's a prostitute who happens to be a law student."

  • It's nice when we can do something for prostitutes every one and awhile.

  • lol :) "obvioulsy i'd like that feeling to go away as soon as possible.." lolol :) ahh toby..

  • I love Jed Bartlet.

  • "It's nice when we can do something for prostitutes every once in a while, isn't it?" I love that line, good comic relief. I love this scene.

  • Because its Bartlet.

and Lori was a nice person who was trying to do the right thing, and just got a little off course. Cant blame anyone for that.

  • its the only way she made it to law school

  • The issue is that Sam was just friends with Laurie... there was nothing else. He was getting busted for simply being her friend and she's a call girl. Being a call girl is not illegal, because sex is not a big part of the deal.

  • You obviously no nothing about American politics or just public relations in general...

  • haha... you're funny. I however don't enjoy getting into stupid arguments with people on Youtube!

  • Toby and Sam are so, so cute.

  • "it's nice when we can do something for prostitutes every once and a while" dude i'm gonna be quoting that untill i die

  • I agree - great line!

  • so good! Problem is, I quote it in public when no one knows what I'm talking about...

  • you mean how he's referring to Jesus and Mary Magdalene?

  • One of Toby's -- and Bartlet's -- nicer moments.
