There is an English translation of Cziffra's "Canons and Flowers" which can be read on musicweb-international. It does not appear on Amazon. I am reading the 'prelude' and am already astonished. Thank you.
@klausknulp i asume that you think liszt was best pianist ever ? i red a book. charles valentin alkan could make liszt real nervous. so probebly alkan was as good as liszt was.
but well never know because there arent any recordings :P
@hjiuhfhrehui thanks god there are no recordings from liszt, mozart or chopin. it would destroy all secrets and dreams. the mystery we need in order to enjoy discussions and passion.
Funny thing : If we had a so-called recording of Horowitz performing La Campanella, we would express some doubt in our comments : "It can't be him guys" ; "Not Horowitz style"....Here we KNOW that ONLY Cziffra could have done this : this is tear-bringing and cringe-making at the same time. Just thank you for having existed in times of recording.
He is not afraid of breaking the rules to make it alive. With that kind of sensitivity he can't reach everybodys heart in cold times like we have today.
Cziffra is a genius. We all can see the centre of the target after his hits. A talent strikes the targets wich we all have known before. Thats the difference. Thanks to everybody who made Cziffra possible and that he was born in times of recording.
I admire cziffra, and i also admirer his technique wich is unique, but his intrepetation doesent lie in his technique alone. His inspiration and fire is much greater. And to all yuo technique dumbasses: there are pianists with much better technique, but they have less passion that equal music close to zero.... technique is secondary in music. "Music" is primary in music, which implies technique...
Excuse me,but I do not know another pianist with a technique like Gyorgy's!He had everything,a technique that no one else has,a musicality unique, such a poetry, and he played with his soul, who was so admirable! His passion is coming from his courage, and from his kindness.
I didn't say Cziffra lacks technique... true, he is among the best, but there are pianists around with better technique... Don't misunderstand me, Cziffra is among my favorite pianists :)
I am an international concertist, and I can assure you that it's seems to me impossible to improvise like that!!!I knew that Cziffra was a genious, but,at that point,I could not even dream that it is humanly realisable!!!
You'll never hear 6 minutes of better piano than this one !!

When you can play piano like that not even the critic’s can intimidate you because you have something they don’t have, not even in their dreams.

@scriabin007 Or maybe he played better than Liszt (maybee a lot of people won't agree with that)

Cziffra appears to channel Liszt among other late 19th century composers. As though he breathes the very same air!

Gyorgy is unique in the history of piano.

Wow, this is really Cziffra, I was afraid it would be some youtube user try to pass their own improvisation for Cziffra's. It's been known to happen.
