  • @auxil47 If you were to pull the Coyote motor from a new Mustang, and put it on an engine dyno, it would make damn near 500 horse. We should be grateful that the big 3 are underrating their powerplants with "net" ratings. During the original musclecar era, everything carried a "gross" rating. By the time all the accesories and full exhaust were installed, that magnificant "gross" rating, was considerably less. Coyote RWHP #'s are damn near the factory 412 crankshaft rating.

  • whoever compares an ls1 to the new 5.0 is a dumb ass. you cant compare the ls1 that was first made in a vette in 1997 to the new 5.0 made recently. the ls1 was smoking the new gts in 05. up untill the new 5.0 does it have a chance. gm is not what it used to be. all cars are pigs now. cept the 5.0.   • Well if you want to put the best of Ford, the SuperSnake is your candidate right? Against the Dodge Viper or Corvette ZR-1 it won't stand a chance, so considering the top of the line model from each company Ford doesn't really measure up.

  • @Jeffero77 The SuperSnake will set you back about 72k, the ACR-X will get ya for about 100k and the ZR-1 103k. Kinda hard to compare the SuperSnake to a car that is over 30k more expensive. The SuperSnake ran a 12.0, the ZR1 in STOCK form, is a 11.5. To me .5 in the 1/4 ain't worth 30k. (both those times are from car and driver) Now as far as the viper goes i'm assuming you're talking about the ACR-X, which is a NON street legal car, and doesn't even belong in that comparison

I'm trying to help you find help by giving you a compromise but on the street the WRX will always win. My brother's car run's mid to low 12s with almost no upgrades sod don't tell me what it can or cannot do. If you want to race family sedans you can race my 300 SRT-8

  • @kevinreid The SHO taurus yamaha was a joint effort, it didn't take ford years to build something better, in late 1992 the 4.6 DOHC V8 made its debut in the 93 model Lincoln Mark VIII. That same engine block design was used all the way from 93-2004, and is now being used in the 2011 mustang GT that's coming with the DOHC 5.0. I'd say this engine was way more successful than any engine Yamaha has ever built..

Times change, Gm wants to stick to pushrods then good for them, but until they swap to an OHC design they don't stand a chance. Like I said there's a reason that lil 5.0 makes nearly as much HP as the 6.2, and the new Boss goes even further out powering the camaro with 440hp.

  • @mikskater33 1st I don't own a mustang. 2nd a 4.6 gives up 60 cubic inches to a LS1. 3rd. The new 2011 mustang makes the camaro it's bitch. Let's take a look at hp per liter. The LS1 camaro made 57hp per liter. A DOHC 4.6 makes almost 70hp per liter. That is an ass kicking. It doesn't take tons for a 4.6 to blow the doors off of an LS1. Minor bolt ons and a SOHC 4.6 stang will run 12's with sticky tires. Hell my 4,000lb linc runs a low 14 with nothin but some gears, catback and a tune.

    DOHC, Ti-VCT which is a neat feature that allows the intake and exahust valve timing to be independantly controlled, 412hp, 390 lb/ft of torque, naturally aspirated...

    And if Ford pumps out a direct injection version, it would stomp on its mainstream, foreign and domestic rivals.

  • @mattmatt115 Oh I'm very well aware of that technology. Ford continually pumps out engines that liter for liter can't be touched. They were ahead of the curve with the first DOHC 4.6 and are continuing that now. Glad someone else realizes it. :)

  • @mattmatt115 The Coyote already has direct injection. They don't have Eco Boost (Ford's Turbo for those who don't know) yet. But yeah, I read a full write up on it and they put a bunch of wish list stuff into it. Awesome engine, too bad it costs $6500 for the crate engine. Then you gotta buy everything else to put on it :(

  • @svtlincoln All I got to say is it only took 14 years for DOHC to finally get there. The LSx platform is still amazing, and it took a long time for other V8's to compete against simple old pushrods.

  • @1Kurgan1 WTF are you talking about?? are you that dumb?? When Ford debuted the DOHC 4.6 in 1993 that engine made 280hp off the showroom floor. The 5.7L in the camaro that same year made 275hp. That means from the beginning the DOHC engine of Ford made over 12hp more per liter. When the LS made it's debut in the camaro it was rated at 305hp, that same year the N/A DOHC 4.6 in the Cobra was also rated at 305hp. Same hp despite being down 70 cubic inches. 14 years? get your shit straight liar.

Point is no matter what an OHV engine will NEVER be able to do what an OHC engine of the same size will do. NO ifs, ands or buts, it just won't. I listed fact. hp because BOTH the LS1 and 4.6 DOHC were underrated. FYI for a LS1 to make the same hp per liter as a STOCK 4.6 it'd need to make 402hp. What's next you wanna tell me carbs are better that EFI?

  • @svtlincoln What I'm saying is, check the prostock cars, check the cars running at drag week. Almost all of them will be running OHV engines. You can get your panties in as tight of a bind as you like, efficiency is great, but like I said, power to weight is what matters, sure the 4.6L might make close to as much power with less cubes, but what does that matter when the LS1 is a slightly lighter motor, and makes bolt on power much easier. Only decent 4V is a fully built one or a Terminator.

Most of them are running carbs too.... and compared to EFI a carburetor is a hunk of shit. I have a total of $400 invested in bolt ons on my 4.6 and my car weighs in at a hair under 4200lbs and knocks down 14.3sec 1/4 miles with a 175,000 engine between the fender wells.

It may make more with it's cubes, but it weighs more and for it's weight the LSx can make more power, and easier. Like Nancy below said, look how many LSx swaps are out there, not many 4.6L swaps. be stuck on whatever stupid idea you got with your slow ass car, I could probably knock a 14.3 out with my GTX with the supercharger pulley off with a V6 OHV lol.
