Used to play this on 33and 1/3. Quite possibly my favorite song off of "Shaft". Was in high school when this was released, played it endlessly. The man is an amazing jazz artist.
I've been groovin to Cafe Regio comin up on 40 years, and it sounds as hot today as it did in '71. I can listen to this cut over and again...it just grooves! We miss you Ike!
The first time I heard this track way back when, I'd never been exposed to anything like it before. It opened an entirely new path of music for me. Thirty-seven years later it still intrigues, leads and soothes me. Thanks a 1000 for posting it!
This is so 1971. Going to see Shaft and hearing the great sound track was a special event. I remember like yesterday my sister and I getting on the BUS to take in the movie and to hear the sound track. WOW. Isaac Hayes was a genius! Thanks
this movie was made ten years before I was born, but it's still my favorite. This is one of the most amazing soundtracks I've ever heard, too. The 70's had it going on!
Just caught this tune on WBGO in NY and loved iI immediately not knowing it was the man Issac Hayes. Great tune. Should have bought the shaft soundtrack long ago.
This became my favourite tune when I was 15.....and nothing has ever shifted it. Isaac was the nuts and I think this was as good as he got......maybe with the title track of the album. Sheer unadulterated genius. Miss him
My father had this soundtrack on 8 track, besides the title cut I didn' t know anything about this tune. And thanks to the auto-play on the 8 track, a whole new world of music was forever opened to me....Great song ....great musicianship!! THAT RHYTHM GUITAR IS SMOKIN'!
I bought Shaft on 45 in the 70s and I played the B-side and - well Cafe reggie was on it. Wow fantastic jazz guitar which new to my 15 yr old mind. I always find B-sides fascinating. Like Santana's Samba Pa Ti (nice tune) but the B-side is Incident at Neshabur. Just wonderful.
i HEAR YOU! My dad bought the seven inch - I've still got it. I was blown away by how beautiful and classy this tune is. Just spiritual and pleasurable!!
when i was a kid, i had the shaft album and this was the only song i listened to. i wondered how a song without words could be so great to listen to. in a strange way, this song introduced me to jazz.. thanx for the post and extending the song.

Possibly my favorite song on this soundtrack, since I've been to the real Cafe Reggio on MacDougal Street in Greenwich Village.

Was on the flip side of my Theme from Shaft 45. It does seem like yesterday. Forty years sure flies. I'll be ordering a Hoveround before you know it.
