He did so much more for Star Trek than play Scotty. He created the Klingon language and was a WWII pilot. He was active in the animated series and has inspired many of today's engineers and scientists to develop what we have today from cell phones, computers, tablets to actually working on alternate spacecraft engines and exotic materials. R.I.P. Jame Doohan.
I attended a lecture he gave at WMU back in the early eighties. I even got his autograph on a flyer. I remember some jerk next to me yelled "Bridge to engineering! Come in, Scotty!". True to form, James replied from backstage, "Scotty to bridge! I'm right here!"
I asked him what were his favorite Star Trek scenes starring himself. He said he like all the times he sat in the captain's chair, some scenes from "The Trouble with Tribbles", and the drunk scene from "By Any Other Name".
"I'M DOIN' THE BEST I CAN!" One myth that must be addressed is the following: They NEVER said, "BEAM ME UP, SCOTTY!" on the show! "Scotty, beam me up!" was said in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home."

Actually the phrase "Beam me up Scotty" was never said in any movie or TV show.
The closest that was said was in Star Trek IV.Kirk said "Scotty,..Beam me up."

@AirsoftSteveCope Wherever we go after our time on this Earth is up truly is the "final frontier", or the "undiscovered country" as Hamlet put it.

He is the reason I'm in engineering school right now. What an exceptional human being. He truly loved Star Trek and everything it stands for.
