I think its a little strange the students chose to "walk-out" in the middle of the school day. They could have done this after school was over. They are protesting because education is taking a hit and they fight for education by....not going to class.

By the way the second half of that expression is..."because Pigs get slaughtered". and kids...read up a little about the WHY things are going on...following your emotions get you in the same place as following your hormones...it gets you in trouble.

LOL most of the teenagers who protested that day did it to get out of class. Obviously the teachers helped orchestrate it as the News said, and its clear that many of the students didn't understand the situation.

@verchow1 Actually, no, our teachers told us not to do it, but they supported our decision. Most did it to get out of class, yes, but not all of us. (incuding me)

@sniickerzzz Do you have any idea about how much these teachers get in lifetime benefits and big penions when NO ONE in private sector gets the same. If you had a choice-face teacher layoffs & program cutting OR eliminate their LIFETIME benefits? Which would you choose?

good job my school is having one too tomorrow all the teachers are supporting us and the principal is actually letting us have it with no disciplinary actions if we do

There's no reason any teachers have to be laid off. The students should deflect their anger toward the teacher unions who are unwilling to compromise. EVERYBODY else in New Jersey has sacrificed in this recession. Tens of thousands have lost their homes. Why are teachers still getting RAISES and paying NOTHING for their benefits? I'm in the private sector and 13% of my salary goes to health insurance. And these teachers rejected Christie's offer to pay a mere 1%? Sickening.

Teachers have been working under contract for years with eventual health benefits promised after having worked to set deadlines. Christie's cuts remove these benefits this summer. That means that teachers are being stripped of a benefit which has been part of their pay for years. Thats not just wrong, its illegal.

Additionally, teachers accept a pay cut in exchange for their health benefits. Without great packages for our educators, there is no way we can attract professionals to the field.

You're so stupid! Christie didn't offer shit. He stole 1.5% based on their salary not even the cost of the benefits. This is a negotiable item and he has forced them to pay when all along they have given up to keep what they have. Not to mention many school district already contribute to health care costs and this special tax of 1.5% is on top of what they already pay. Yeah, sounds fair.
