On the forms that were publicized, the original charge was holding a religious meeting without a permit. The parking issue came up later. Also, the pastor paid for the "ding" on the persons car. There was only one neighbor, out of many, who complained. Having said that, we are instructed by the Bible to obey the laws of man, as long as it is not in conflict with the Bible. I have yet to find a passage that says to have Bible studies at home. The church building can be used to keep the law.
Whatever happened to balance? I hear people talk about it, but seems as though it only good when it's related to trendy topics. Freedom of speech and religion needs to be protected and FREE for everyone.Whether your discussing GOD, earth, or politics. Some of this hate for religion sounds like kids who are spewing retoric they heard from someone else. The early 80's was about the worst time religious right wing preachers had overbearing influence on politics. Now its big gov. vs. everyone with a $.
It looks like the city was more concerned about excess traffic flow and overflow street parking in a residential neighborhood, not his religious views.
I wonder if the pastor's home is located in a snobby neighborhood with an HOA/neighborhood watch? Those type of people only care about property values and keeping up with the Joneses.
Call Bill O'Relly from Fox: He'll take on those godless, terrorist heathens!!
There's two separate issues. First is the parking issue. If there isn't enough parking in the area, especially so that innocent people's vehicle's are being hit as a direct result, then the city has the obligation to act once a complaint has been made. Second issue is the matter of the permit. If people want to have home bible studies or group sex parties in their own home, they can. As long as the people are orderly and it's non-commercial, it's their right to have home gatherings.
What's the big deal? Ok, I believe religion is the biggest waste of time and money an intelligent person can get involved in, but it's his freaking house! I would WELCOME someone trying to stop me from having a gathering in my home to praise an invisible imaginary friend, if I was so inclined to. Yes, religion is for the ignorant, but free speech is for everyone.
why doesn't he hold his bible meetings at a church? If it's about dinner too they can do a pot luck. If he doesn't have a church, then perhaps he should pray for one.
@amberview30 A 'church' is just a building. What's wrong with using his house? Do people buy buildings to hang out with friends and watch football games... or do they just invite them over to their house?
@dleblanc I must have been in a snarky mood when I wrote that. However, there are zoning laws for a reason. Usually it's a parking problem and possibly a fire hazard. It depends on how many friends you have over and how often.
You shouldn't get a lawyer!!! They are trying to contract with you, under an antecedant contract, if you fight(get a lawyer) you are in dishonor. You must conditional accept(with an affidavit) their offer to contract if they can produce under full commercial liability a proof of claim of a contract that you have with them. We are under contract law under tacit agreements with our government. Since they cannot produce the contract with a signature they are in dishonor.
